  1. The BBC have been running a series of magazine articles on their website that seeks to instill in the average man-on-the-street an understanding of numbers, percentages and statistics that are regularly used in the media. I only found number four in the series today but have now read all of them. They are universally excellent. Well written and informative. Some of the stuff I was aware of and other stuff came as a shock to the memory. I'd advise you all to check them out: Lesson 1: Our survey says Lesson 2: The myth of counting Lesson 3: Percentages Lesson 4: Averages Next week is Causation. I'm actually looking forward to reading it.
  2. I've never seen many staff in there either. One or two on the front desk/reception and maybe another one or two on the funny looking desks. There looks to be enough space for maybe 40 of them but no way has there ever been the need for that many. C*nt-aquarium is perhaps a tad harsh but christ-on-a-bike did it have to be quite so monstrously large for such a low-demand business. And they wonder why they have financial troubles?! Easy, try renting smaller premises and buying fewer interior furnishings.
  3. I'm leaving mine on Friday Keef. Do you want to be a jaded political lobbyist?
  4. It's amazing what they teach at the University of Wikipedia these days Steve. Ignore me, I'm merely jealous of Brendan's polymath tendancies. I console myself with his lack of cricketing ability. Then I remember my lack of cricketing ability and cry a little inside.
  5. Please, please let there be a Palace fan somewhere on here. So rarely do I get to gloat about any Leed's victories but this one, oh boy! 4-0 against a team in a division above and managed by Colin. It doesn't get much better.
  6. Oh stop. This is too funny. All out for 83!! Have you sent your schoolboy team in error? See, I'm all cocky now, but when we lose our opening pair for anything less than 30 I'll be pooing myself that we'll lose.
  7. Well, I think there has been some brutal battles at the Hoopers quiz. I cannae be bothered but use the search box and it'll bring up a whole slanging match of intellectual one-upmanship. Good luck to ye'!
  8. And in the opinion of most of your team as well it would appear. Broad gets his fifth!
  9. Good job. You've just lost another. Heehee. This is quite good fun...for now.
  10. Never mind. 5 down, 5 to go. D'ya reckon SA will make a hundred?
  11. Whatever happened to space battles? I mean, they look sooo cool on tv, do we still not have the technology for it? With lasers and what not. I wanna join SpaceCorp!
  12. So in fact the moon landings prematurely brought about the demise of the USSR as its economy collapsed under the attempts to beat the Yanks in the space race. That's a bonus, right?
  13. Urban myth. Velcro was invented long before that. Astronauts merely made its use popular.
  14. Given all this talk of impending doom: The Doors - The End (with Apocalypse Now intro)
  15. And the Millenium Bug! Bloody IT geeks on the make there.
  16. Thirded. Apologies if I sounded rude - merely giving my two cents in a too brisk manner. So this Admin eh, who does (s)he think (s)he is?! ;-)

That's not nice. still > feel it's up to the Forum body to step in. Quite. This isn't a democracy. Nor does everyone have the "right" to freedom of speech. I spend a lot (too much tbh) of time on here and think the Admin(s) mostly do a sterling job in the anonymous face of adversity. Occassionally I might disagree with certain things but not nearly enough to worry me. It's quite easy. If you don't like the way the Forum is run, find another. I'm happy so I'll stay.
  18. That's a brutal weekender Sean. 10 hours in two days plus all the other bumf....if I can watch series 4 first I may well be tempted.
  19. True Keef. I read that if the NHS were to completely fund all diabetic drug and treatment it would us ethe entire budget. ?10bn on the Olympics is diddly squat. Do you know what an aircraft carrier costs? And I quite like being a citizen of a country that attempts to instill in its people a sense of athletic acheivement. There's far too many fatsos around as it is.
  20. Anyone see the taekwondo today? Greatest stuff ever. First, we get some disgraceful judging elimating the plucky Brit only for justice to reign after half an hour or so of prevaricating and she's reinstated. Then loses in the next round. But goes on to claim a bronze. Good stuff. THEN, drama of the highest order as a Cuban who's been disqualified for hamming over a foot injury gets all uppity and kicks the referee in the head!! Awesome. He's been banned for life apparantly. Serves you right for training a guy to kick people in the head me thinks.
  21. Blue Mountain Cafe on a Saturday morning: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/df/Kids_votd1995.jpg "No more organic porridge!" "No more organic porridge!" "No more organic porridge!"
  22. Been there, done that, got the Boden t-shirt.
  23. Oh enough already people. I like a good ol' barney now and again but ffs put a sock in it the pair of you. I think we've heard enough of both mawkish sentimentality over a fox, and of McGuiver's bear shooting in the Canadian wilderness. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, lock this down!
  24. Oh good grief! Just how hard is it to pass a bit of scaffolding from one person to the next without f%^king things up? Very, seems to be the answer as both us, the Yanks and the Nigerians all fail this seemingly simple task in the 4x100m relay, and are out. The hop, skip and jump lad seems to be doing ok though. On for a gold.
  25. Moos and PGC, you're going to love this. Firstly, just watching the pony bit of the Modern Pentathlon and it's a mud bath in the arena turning the event into, as a BBC texter said, a live action version of Buckaroo. Secondly, breaking news from HQ. A number of horses have tested positive for banned substances. No news on how many or what substance but this is BIG people. I think it's a safe bet it wasn't ketamine! :))
