Dwarves. Especially those in fancy dress or costumes. Or in groups.

Curry Club - Thursday 7 March 2019 - venue TBC
david_carnell replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
Very nice to see you all. The meal, IMO, was pretty good. It took a while to arrive but was probably worth it. And they were catering for ten. As to Michael's quandry I would vote for either: a) East Dulwich dining club; or b) curry houses of SE London It seems silly to repeat places. We could merely work from one end of the lane to another with the odd side street thrown in for good measure or go by types of cuisine. I'd be up for travelling around but that might deplete numbers if not everyone was up for that and I'd rather have a good size group than a small vindaloo-hardcore. -
I agree with you in principle Jamma, but Moos talks no woo or wibble here. I know where you're coming from but it tends to get a bit sixth-form like on occassion. And I should know, I'm a prime culprit of that. Check out the long-running "Enemies of Reason" thread for this whole argument from last year.

And softball/baseball having just watched it. Good grief, you might as well play rounders or frisbee.

Goodness, pk may well be right although you need bloody good eyesight to tell. I never realised. The grin makes it deceptive. I thought it was a happy-grinning-thhumbs-up. How wrong I was. I feel I may need to go back and do some editing.

I think you'll find it's a thumbs up.

Oh dear. *Hangs in speeling erorr shame*

Oompah.

London's Venezuelan-subsidised bus scheme expires today. Can't see Boris renewing that one.

Someone get me some photos!

Well if, and it's still an IF, the horse also gets a medal we'll call that a draw. I'm alright with that. Just rewards. The rest of sport doesn't concern me. If Beckham wants to play in ?300 boots, let him. Ditto Ferrari. But this is the Olympics. I'm liking the train of thought about the cycling though - perhaps they should all have the same bike. Good stuff. Hoy would still kick bum with those thighs. But my argument over dressage stands. Rubbish to watch and know-one but a handful of experts have a bloody clue what's going on. Oh, and don't worry about both of you ladies picking on me. I'm man enough for both of you.

Does the horse get medal? Really? Cool. Are we sure about this people. Someone should find out. Is there a Steve Redgrave of horses? Now don't be silly Moos. The hockey argument isn't the same thing at all. If you and PGC think horse riding is so hard and it's all about rider skill and not who has the best pony then they should be able to do it on any horse, right? And the fat kid does get picked last. He's called the goalie.

You've got dressage which no-one but an expert can figure out which bit of prancing about is better than another (see earlier post about laymen etc) and then you get cross-country and showing jumping which is like steeplechase but with significant equine help. The horse doesn't get a bloody medal does it?! And although I'm being slightly obtuse just to wind up PGC (and now you) - and only because I know you know etc - I am being serious when suggesting that it should be dumped from the schedule. Or, do it like they do in the pentathlon where you only meet your horse the morning of the event to make it random and based solely on rider skill rather than whose pet can jump the biggest gate in return for a sugar cube and a carrot.

Mmm, the Dutch professional sailor Hans Horrevoets drowned after being swept off his boat. I'm sure he would have preferred something like land to, err, land on. Something tells me you ride PGC. I do like the outfits though. At least they mkae an effort. Jodphurs and all that. Very fetching.

Thanks for the info on NI Jimbob...good to know @PGC - I think I'd rather fall off a horse than out of a boat into Shanghai harbour thanks very much. And you're not telling me that the horse doesn't do most of the work? @Moos - my problem with the boxing is that it's so subjective. I watch it and think "ooh, that looked good" and the fella doesn't even get a point for it. It requires three (!) judges at riungside to figure out whether a punch had even landed. All seems a bit silly. And when it was in Olympia they all competed naked so historical precedents aren't the basis for modern decisisons, are they! ;-)

Team GB and NI doesn't slip off the tongue quite as nicely does it? Do you think the Northern Irish fellas and ladies feel ostracised by this shameful political flim-flammery? Are there any NI athletes in the GBNI team?

Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shoot me now - I'm obviously too long in the > tooth: bmx in the Olympics? > > I'm polishing my skateboard for 2012. The never ending debate on just what sports should be in the Olympics. BMX doesn't bother so much. At least it's human powered. 3-day eventing on the other hand?! Even sailing is pushing it but I'll allow that since we won some medals. Anything that requires judging to determine the victors rather than a layman (Gymnastics, diving, dressage, judo, synchronised swimming, boxing maybe etc.) - out. Anything where the Olympics isn't the pinnacle of achievement in that sport (tennis and football spring to mind) - out. And lets get rid of some of the endless number of swimming events. 50, 100 and 200 metres?! In four different strokes and a medley?! Inidividually AND in a relay?! Really?

It is dark for most of the track & field though so.... I guess because: a) the photo flash bulbs going off are quite bright, as are the floodlights b) you look quite icy cool and nonchalant

The bird's nest is outdoors? Who had them on inside?

Aye precisely BN5. We're all used to going to Wetherspoons-esque establishments where 5-10mins after you've ordered out pops your pie or curry or whatever. There's only one of doing this and that's being a microwave/fat-fryer-jockey. All this pre-made in-a-bag slop that passes for food these days. You wonder why 'Spoons can still make a profit on a ?4.99 curry with all the trimmings? You don't want to know. I'd rather an establishment took a little more time and gave me a plate of decent, freshly cooked food than the above example. Hopefully the Herne will take note of the desire for more, better motivated staff and continue serving what seems-to-be, much admired cuisine. And hats off to to Chris for bothering to respond.

Indeed. In future try not to use this phrase but instead replace it with more socially acceptable alternatives such as wibble-peddlar or snake-oil-salesman. Moos makes a good point though. She's quite good at those. Although most of her stuff is often wibble (or should that be woo) as well! ;-)

Fraid so Brendan. PeckhamGateCrasher will be getting all excited again!

Now I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent bloke (and a modest one) but I'm currently watching the men's track cycling event known as the 'Madison' and quite frankly, despite having the rules explained to me by the BBC, have no clue what the bloody hell is going on. It looks like something invented for an office away-day team bonding exercise. Absolutely bonkers. But we might win it, so... GO TEAM GB!
