  1. Debtitis? Sub-prime inflammation of the jowls?
  2. No, I have understood your prejudices perfectly well. You think that by using the term to describe only those "who make trouble" everything's fine and dandy. I think it is you who has misunderstood what is appropriate and what is not.

James Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Let's put the political correct doublespeak aside > for a second and remember that about 99.99% of > dogs who bite repeatedly are owned by chavs. Fact. Really? A fact is it? Says who? You. So that would be a random guess with no factual basis at all to back up your argument would it. > To be honest I think > you should have to get a license to have children > to stop these people breeding as well... Righto. Disabled people next. Can't have those breeding can we. Might pollute the gene pool or something. WTF are you on?!?
  4. I didn't "throw in the towel" as you put it but decided it wasn't really worth getting into an argument on something that I wasn't that bothered about. This on the other hand.... I wasn't attempting to win an argument by calling you a fool, just highlighting that sometimes thinking whether something you're about to post could be seen as unnecessarily inflammatory and offensive might be a good idea. Launching an attack on a easy stereotype is neither big nor clever. It goes off on a unnecessary tangent from the original point of the thread and is crass and insensitive, to say the least. If you don't think your post displays all the hallmarks of bigotry try replacing the word "chav" with "Chinese" or "Muslim" and see how many people you upset.
  5. When we clashed on the topic of schools, James, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. As Abe Lincoln once said: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
  6. Restaurant 54 in Albufeira, Portugal. The only redeeming feature of an otherwise horrid town. Situated on the cliff-top overlooking the beach. Great fish.
  7. I wanted to come into work wearing a St George flag painted on my face but my boss didn't think this was a very professional look in our office. What about my rights? Eh? Eh? It's probably because he's a Scot. Bloody foreigners imposing their way of life on us. And I ate porridge for breakfast this morning. Bloody pc-brigade. They'll ban my Jerusalem ring tone next.
  8. Capt_birdseye, I always assumed you were a fella but have noticed a young lady reading this on my train for the last couple of days. Could it be you per chance or are the commuters of Peckham Rye station obsessed with the re-telling of the classics?
  9. Sean, spot on as ever (well nearly) - or at least you were till your edit?! Oh god....some days I just don't have the energy to respond to bollocks like this. Take a chill pill Atila. Deep breath and just let. it. go.
  10. Just the type of people you want running a health service - those interested in profits, not patients! I think not.
  11. Boris - do I sense a personal involvement somewhere down the line? Nice pseudonym btw.
  12. Strawbs - see attached map for a rough idea of the "Bellenden area". Basically anywhere in the proximity of the Bellenden Rd shops or that has a Gormley-designed bollard and fancy street lights. Estate Agents will stretch its boundaries, no doubt. It's a very nice little patch - especially at weekends. But a bit quieter than Lordship Lane which is a bit more of a destination point.
  13. How can you make it accountable?
  14. Oh, and whilst we're all here can I point out the elephant in the room when it comes to the Melbourne Grove Surgery. Who the bloody hell started allowing private companies to run GP centres? Concordia Health!?! - who the feck are they? See what the Southwark News reported in January if want a reason why you can't get an appointment. It's because all the GPs have been laid off. *stops typing as spit and bile have obscured monitor*
  15. I'll try and make it Sean. Hopefully see you there.
  16. Excellent post KK. Bendan - ah, I see. You mean because you pay tax it is not free at all, and I suppose you are correct. How about 100 families/households get together in a co-op and each pays ?1000 per year? For this you get unpriviledged access to your GP 24/7 with no waiting for an appointment. The doctor gets an appropriate salary and we all live happily ever after. No? Too much money? Some can't afford it I hear you shout. Hmmm....so really a free-at-the-pint-of-use NHS is the best way to go isn't it? Isn't it? Perhaps if you had to pay a ?50 flat fee everytime you went to your GP it would stop most of the bloody timewasters and hypochondriacs going in the first place. It could be tax deductable. Any takers? No?
  17. Who pays to see a doctor? Those who go private I suppose. Not at your GP centre though. Pescriptions cost a set fee though. In some cases this is above the over-the-counter price and most doctors will recommend buying the drug this way - in most cases you save a lot of money. Those on low incomes, students, pensioners etc get reduced or free pescriptions.
  18. I see. Yes that seems reasonable. If it is merely the phone call you want at a specific time I think that's fine. I can appreciate it can be difficlt to fulfill though. It would have to be a window of time rather than a specific to allow for delays and rambling numptys who doctors can't get rid of. I don't think GPs salaries have much to do with things though.
  19. I live on the ED side of East Dulwich Road so am a spit from the SE15 badlands. I walk to work everyday up Rye Lane or through the back steets. Often go wandering up Rye Lane shopping at the weekend and get late night buses back from town quite regularly. Not one problem in 9 months. Not one. Nothing threatening at all. Some anti-social behaviour but nothing worth writing home about. Rye Lane is a bit grubby but lively, friendly and cheap. Bellenden is a bit more chic with prices to match. I know nothing about Gypsy Hill but if it's as bad as you say it is, get down here sharpish. The water's lovely.

  21. It's not the call time I object to (although I presume we all have mobiles now) but the idea we can "demand" and appointment when it suits us. When would that be for the vast number of people? After 6pm when we all get back from work I would think. It's really not feasible is it? If you are sick enough to go to a doctor I think you should be glad you get a same-day appointment in most cases and it's gratis. Free. And yet Doctors who work long hours, are highly qualified, do on-call shifts, get abused by patients and shafted by government are seen as the bad guys because you don't get an appointment when you want it or you have to wait 15 mins because they're running behind. Madness.

Most of us work - > and get a darn sight less than ?100,000 a year > thank you very much and we can't just sit around > all day waiting for a clinican to call us back! Really? I don't want to sound rude but this sort of statement is part of the problem. You have a medical problem that you deem important enough to go to the doctors with and yet demand that you are seen when it's convenient to you?! You have to take time off work to get a sofa delivered (hyperbole) but you think your health isn't that important and therefore doctors should work around your schedule? A bit more flexibility is needed methinks.
  23. Ahhh...bands/singers that you're "meant" to like but just can't. That could almost be a whole new thread. For me: Velvet Underground Bowie and yeah, I'd go for the Stone Roses as well.
  24. The Mighty Boosh.... eh?
