  1. Yeah I should be able to grab a bus down to the park for then. Where do you want to meet? By the swings? The see-saw? If it's raining (even a bit) don't bother. Greasy surface = bad injuries.
  2. No, I don't have pads but I do have stumps (thanks to Mogs) so we could use those if we can't find the nets. What time? Anyone else?
  3. Which park? When? I have a bat. I'll give you some practise.
  4. I think I've recruited one more. My best mate's coming from Bath for my birthday and is a bit useful so says he'll play. Good news. As for sledging...nothing beats "your Mum" does it?! :)
  5. Yeah...not quite the same though. Would get very image heavy. In retrospect, I probably say "non" to my own idea.
  6. I think you could add a picture to your signature as standard. I'm trying here.
  7. .
  8. Could the Administrator set up a poll (much like the favourite bar poll), let it run for a few days and "let the people decide"?
  9. What are people's thoughts on avatars? Could we have them here? Would that be nice or does it get unwieldy? People have them on other forums and it allows a degree of personality to show through. Is it even possible, Mr Admin?
  10. In tribute to the cricket thread: 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday Not that it has much to do with cricket but still... Edit: This is more like it: Soul Limbo
  11. I'm going to regret this as my birthday party the day before will preclude any smidgen of ability I still possess, but, aye, go on then. I can bowl a bit. How many overs can I/am I allowed to/have to bowl? Batting is a touch more erratic. Does anyone have any cricket gear or can we turn up in trackies and a t shirt. I'm guessing most people here don't have whites?! What about bats, gloves, pads, balls etc etc.
  12. Sorry Macroban, but it appears that people are more happy discussing the pros and cons of clothes rather than the imminent (or not) demise of the retail sector. Head in the sand and all that jazz.
  13. Blimey, first you attack children and their parents and now throw accusations of homophobia about. You're new to this making friends thing aren't you?

Roasted, whole, with an apple shoved in > their gob is my recommendation... A new menu suggestion for the EDT perhaps. Along with "toddler thermidor". Like a lobster they scream if you plunge a toddler direct into boiling water so make sure you put them in a freezer to send them to sleep first. Or skewer them between the eyes. Michy, take note.
  15. In line with HonaloochieB's suggestion: Boris Gump - Boris Johnson drops Ken Livingstone's lawsuit against water plant Magic Johnson - Mayor to discuss Oyster card plans - although Ken was already doing this but never let it be said if nothing but fair and impartial! Hahaha. Edit: Magic Johnson strikes again: Mayor of London Boris Johnson announces the start of a programme to deliver a manifesto commitment to plant 10,000 new trees across the capital.

True, but jeans and a shirt are never going to be revolutionary are they. Personally I'd never wear Vivienne Westwood because I'd look a bit of a prat outside of Covent Garden.
  17. Bo%^ocks! Not a good night. We looked second best throughout although the Carlisle keeper played the game of his life. Freedman's wish for double play-off success with us and Palace looks unlikely. His 96th(!) min goal proved a lifeline and he's been the best loan signing we've made in years. Uphill struggle now and the near 40,000 that turned up for the game were gutted. Fingers crossed for Thurs. Anyone know a good pub near Holborn or London Bridge that has Sky? I'm off to watch with a fellow London Leeds fan.
  18. Against the grain of general feeling I actually like most of their stuff. If I could afford it I'd buy more as the couple of things I've got so far I wear constantly. Then again, I am their target demographic. Good for them, bucking against a slowdown.

  20. The Herne have a huge garden sculpted to vaguely resemble a cross between telly-tubby land & the trenches of Ypres.

I sometimes wonder about this. If there is anything to be said (and I'm loathed to admit it) for the output of public schools is that the pupils tend to be more than exam-passing automatons. Sports play a bigger role and social skills are developed further. The pressure on state-schools to climb league tables forces them to ignore this aspect of education and focus on nothing other than memorising text books. When those pupils reach university and have to think for themselves it is often their undoing.
  22. And let us not forget the great Brian Deane!! >:D< I'll be very interested in Blackwell's progress. Aye, there's a few players we've got who could cut the mustard in the Championship but as far as I know you could be a Brammal Lane scout so I'm saying nowt.
  23. Amazingly James, I like it too. We are getting along rather well at the moment. Then again I'm not feeling too well at the moment so maybe our mutual loathing will return shortly ;-) One point. The exam at 11 would merely to ensure all schools have equal numbers of all abilities? It is not a binding result that ties that child to a particular stream or band for the rest of his or her education? They must be free to move around in ability as they progress? Would you be in favour of streaming in each school? I think the cleverest would do better in this situation but would it leave the poor performing children behind? I went to a selective state school and even in that there were further differentiations in ability. Being stuck in the bottom maths set wasn't much fun I can tell you. But no doubt I would have held those that did brilliantly at Maths back if I was in their class. And now I'm wondering if you would do it for individual classes, why not whole schools? Is that not logical? Edit: Now worries Macker. Sarcasm and irony are pretty difficult to get across on t'internet. And emoticons are pretty naff even if I do us them myself.

I'll ignore the thinly veiled personal jibe. I'm far from revolutionary. Unless fairness, equality of opportunity and a meritocratic society have suddenly become shockingly rebellious opinions to hold.
  25. macker Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We could call it, oh, I don't know ... the > "assisted places scheme", perhaps. Mmm, we could. Or we could use the money to benefit the many and not the few by lowering class sizes in state primary schools. Oh, look, we did already. And the British Journal of Education found that only 7% of those on the assisted places schemes came from working class backgrounds. The majority came from middle-class single parent families whose parents had, in many cases, been to independent school themselves.
