  1. Got off the bus at DKH Sainsburys this afternoon and walked less than 10 steps only to have a leaflet almost shoved under my nose by one of their PR people, arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
  2. They are also in Crofton Park, so not new butchers, just new to the Village. Will be interesting to note if they are cheaper or more expensive than WR?
  3. Cella - Khan doesn't care about the impact or consequences, he signs off the TfL recommendations given to him as it makes no difference to how he operates. Zebeddee ting - the current councillors have let the people down by not objecting strongly enough at the London Assembly That's what you get when you have Southwark operating as a one party state, which is wrong. Now that is a Political statement. And as pebs Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Poor shout from our local counsellors methinks. James Barber would have been all over this. This thread was about the changes to bus routes and in particular for those in ED the No.40, which is what this thread needs to return to.
  4. Totally agree about the 20 mph limit, ridiculous as is the habit of drivers to stop at a stop where no one has hailed the bus to stop or wants to get off, stop, open the doors, close the doors and move off again, a pointless time and fuel wasting exercise. Or the spontaneous announcement saying the bus driver has been instructed to wait at the stop to EVEN out the service. There has been no instruction, it's the driver who has decided to do so. And oh yes, the latest one, the bus is about to depart or some similar stupid wording, after four stops, Please stop repeating the same message. it's bleedin' obvious.
  5. zebeddee tring - 1) actually I have made factual statements, and looking back on what I've written I don't consider any of them to be Political. First up, I'd say this if the Mayor was red, blue, yellow or from any other political party. For me this is NOT about politics, it's about stopping an ever increasing deficit and bringing much needed change to turn things around. 2)Agreed TfL don't make widgets, that's right, what they do is transport people around London, and if you actually bothered to read what I wrote, I said "TfL ultimately run and control the bus network. The companies are are purely contracted operators." I agree with you that "we have probably the highest bus and train fares in Europe and indeed most of the rest of the world. This is the situation that anyone running TfL faces." In the real commercial world a business with such a huge deficit, which they are unable to control and repeat year on year wouldn't survive. It needs to change and change soon. What that means is reduce the deficit and turn the organisation around so it actually makes a profit which is then re-invested into the travel network. No, it wasn't about getting down with da kidz, it was about getting your attention, and you know what, it worked!! Bic Basher, Points 1,2 and 3 agreed. TfL are in control of the contracted out bus and tram service's provided for them. These companies do it to make a profit. Mark my words, whoever and I don't really care who it is, the new Mayor is in 2020 will need to reverse Khan's ?1.50 a journey fare, repeal the day fare cap and increase fares even further all around, just like Boris did when he was in office, and it's an office we don't need, much the same that Mayor's of London Boroughs are not needed and are a waste of time, effort and money.
  6. Actually I was trying to keep politics out of this which you clearly are unable to do so. I have so far stated facts. Perhaps you need to rethink your approach to this as it ain't working, ya get me!!!!
  7. Well he is the person responsible for TfL, unless you know different, so the buck sits with him. All you're doing is trying to make it political. TfL is a business, it needs to be run as such. In the commercial world it would have been killed off years ago. What's more, London does NOT need a Major. It's a made up job that Khan has and that we pay for.
  8. He validates the recommendation given to him by TfL through signing it off, he doesn't care what it says ,all he cares about is himself, he's a politician, that's what they do. It's us who will have to sort out the TfL deficit through eventually having to pay much higher fares when Khan is no longer Mayor. He sure as hell will not do it on his own watch. It would be political suicide.
  9. I agree that the changes to bus services effect the less well off and once implemented they are highly unlikely to ever be reversed. Thank some suit in TfL for that plus the bus companies that have to do as they are told by TfL. TfL ultimately run and control the bus network. The companies are are purely contracted operators. Khan is a politician who simply follows the recommendation's he is given by TfL and duly signs them off. He ultimately does what is best for him (what is best for business, that being Khan himself). If you want to change things, in 2020 when he will be up for re-election, select a different candidate. While it is not possible to disrespect him for maintaining bus and tram fares at ?1.50 per journey and the daily cap which saves Londoner's a shed load of money day in and day out each year, that, and the Elizabeth Line have left TfL with a major deficit. I suspect the new mayor when elected may well have to increase all fares across the entire transport network and withdraw the daily cap in an attempt to balance the books, but that will not be Khan's concern any more. When Khan goes, like Boris, he will not bother as he already has his eye on a much greater prize, plus he and Corbyn basically detest each other, so in a nut shell if you want change that can only come through the ballot box.
  10. Lewisham Chief Exec ?185,000, darn't think what the LB Lewisham Mayor earns? These figures are absolutely obscene for public sector salaries. The PM earns far less with much greater responsibilities. You now know where you council tax goes and one of the reasons for it's systematic annual increases, We pay more and get less each year while council management get significantly more and do less.
  11. it's because of the mark up they add to their cost price which makes it that price, there are other florists further up the lane.
  12. They all have their good and bad points. I don't trust the self checkouts in Morrisons as have had a number of discrepancies with the change dispensed, and currently a pain to get to due to the long term rye lane road works. Tesco are OK but a bit of a trek to the OKR, but again long queues at both standard and self service checkouts, with often not enough open. Aldi and Lidl are great for certain items not available elsewhere or for some of their own brand goods. Items such as dried herbs, spices, jams, tinned fruit, some of their specials and when they have themed weeks. I find for certain items they are better value than the big 4. However have noticed recently even their prices have risen. Sainsbury's are a bit more expensive on certain items but certainly fresher goods and all round provide a better choice, but I have noticed their prices increasing on certain things. Ultimately it's down to personal choice, my preference is different items from different stores.
  13. Can you post their contact details, thanks Applepears Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I have emailed a complaint to tfl this week , and > going to ring them on Monday . 14. P68, thanks for the confirmation, it has been an utterly ridiculous state of affairs with the amount of inconvenience it has/is causing. The sooner tfl get this rectified and it returns to its normal route the better. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > BUT UNDERHILL ROAD IS NOT CLOSED! 15. See https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/status/ Route P13 is diverted due to the closure of Underhill Road for roadworks. Alternative stops are Lordship Lane Estate or Crystal Palace Road. RYE LANE, SE15: Route P13 is diverted due to a closure on Rye Lane for gas main works. Services towards New Cross are diverted via Lyndhurst Way and Peckham High Street, missing out stops between Blenheim Grove and The Aylesham Centre. Services towards Streatham are diverted via Lyndhurst Way, Holly Grove and Bellenden Road, missing out stops between Peckham Post Office and Chadwick Road.

    Brexit View

Currently the UK is the laughing stock of Europe, France have stuck the boot in but that is not unexpected, so the options are an extension till 30th June, the third vote being rejected by HoC, May won't revoke Article 50, another vote of no confidence and based on current state of her own Party and Parliament that could potentially be lost and result in General Election and a split Parliament. Corbyn threw his toys out of the pram this evening and walked out of cross party talks because the Independent Group attended. And to be honest cross party talks should have been done much earlier. The previous Brexit Ministers wasted two years doing (I have no idea), the first two she sacked. She has only really engaged in Brexit for the last 12 months. Brexit is an absolute shambles, as others have said she is running the clock down, either hoping for a last minute deal or it will result in the UK exiting with No Deal. Corbyn's own MP's don't trust or like him, the country dosen't trust May because of her inability to negotiate, so if it does go to a GE, although I expect May to fight tooth and nail against that we are likely to be looking at the same we had between 2010 - 2015, a hung Parliament. Yesterday following a lengthy and interesting Parliamentary Debate, two MP's on the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and who had joined the Independent Group were voted off the FAsC, even though their was cross party support for them staying, but because Corbyn wanted revenge for them having defected they were voted off. An absolute farce of democracy and the UK will be poorer as a result of the loss of their vast experience of the workings and running of the FAsC.
  17. The diverted route is Underhill till Barry road, right to onto Barry road, Left onto Lordship Lane, then returns to ususal route, right at the Grove Tavern. As others have said it's an absolute inconvenience, especially for coming back from DKH. Why can't they just allocate more workman to do all the works in one go when it is closed or actually plan the works.
  18. Anyone know how many weeks/months this fiasco is due to continue for as it seems to be ongoing for Wed to Sunday each week? "Route P13 is diverted due to the closure of Underhill Road for roadworks. Alternative stops are Lordship Lane Estate or Crystal Palace Road." Unhelpfully, no mention of what the diverted route actually is. https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/status/
  19. from tfl UNDERHILL ROAD, SE22: Route P13 is diverted via Lordship Lane and Barry Road until 19:00 Monday 18 March due to water works on Underhill Road. Buses are unable to serve stops between Underhill Road/Melford Road and Whateley Road.
  20. Your posts yesterday and today are personal attacks on me, no one has behaved like this towards me in the 10 Plus years I've posted on this forum. I realsied that what I had posted on 11 March was inappropriate and so I deleted that post. But you thought you'd take things one step further. I have not been rude to you personally in any way, yet you think its OK to use my name which I kept private and which I had the right to do, rather than my username. You also think it's OK not to respond to the PM's I sent you and answer them publicly on the forum. So stop hiding behind the east DAG username. I started posting about your photo competition because of the amount of disorganisation which was apparent, that must have touched a very raw nerve. The East DAG username represents the east dulwich action group, and as such you should respond as an organisation, not individually or make it personal. It looks like east DAG seem unable to take the rightful criticism I levelled at them about how things were being run. Clearly you are now trying to force me to terminate my forum account when you've only posted here for a year, thanks for that.
  21. It was feedback Personal insults really? Shows the type of person you are. NASTY. bcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is that your Tinder biog or a critique? > > dbboy Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > small and high
  22. The only opposition was James Barber, but the "good" people (and I use that lightly) of Southwark decided he was to be replaced so now with no opposition the council can and do as they please. So until this shower are either voted out of office or there is a decent opposition, I'm afraid I can only see it getting worse much the same as it is the other side of Langton Rise in Lewisham who also run a one party state.
  23. And note the date it's due to be implemented on. 1st April?????
