Anyone out there playing on the PC and care for an evening's frolicks? LTP
  3. Hi, I'm a member of Dulwich Park Runners, so warmly praised here, which is nice to hear! I along with several other club members are tackling the 2010 VLM, so there will be a few training groups kicking into gear post Xmas, so do pop along and see if you like what you find. DAVY - Ditch the beers, it reaps huge rewards! I'v been off it since September now and have shed 10lbs, whcih has helped the running enormously in terms of speed and endurance. At the statge no of which I prefer, the better running or the beer. Running is winning I have to say! Not to say there will not be a drop or two on my lips come the finish of London in April. If anyone does fancy coiming long then please look out for me to say hello (I usually make an announcment of some sort on the club nights) always ghood to meet new runners. Regards Eric
  4. I feel I know which dogs are doing this, if they are substantial "Deposits", as I see them out when I am out walking, and have never seen them scoop..Who should I contact do you think?
  5. UPDATE----Looking for my Linux disc, I have found a copy of XP with SP2 on it... installing as we speak!!!! Silicon-porn to follow soon.... ;-)
  6. An update.... Old PC took the huff of all this talk of a new machine in my life, thankfully the EeePC is not so fickle. Anhow, went into town and visited the store Matty recommended, so have sittingnext to me an i5 2.66Ghz machine, with 4 Gb ram, and a 1Gb video card... Tried to install XP fromthe original disc, and get an error. A quick google explains it as an issue with PCI-E card needing a new CD with XP/SP2 slipstreamed into it: http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm SO.... for a bottle of wine or two, is there anyone out there able to do this for me please as I don't have access to another PC to do this, and can bring around the XP CD. Unless anyone knows of or has an SP2 verion I can use to install, and then I'll use my own CD KEY (I can prove I have this). PM if you can help please! I'm going to try booting with knoppix in the meanntine, but then....I'm still no further forward am I!!!! AaAArGHHH!!!!

I have pondered this, but it seems to include a XP Replicator (Or some such term" To allow you to run your old XP programmes... That puts the fear of god into me! BUT will XP Pro get the most from a new PC....Or will an upgrade just cost me more in needing newer software?

Cheers Matty, I think I'll take a wander up town with a wad...see what happens. Yes, have been considering the Hackintosh option too, to give the OS a whirl, silicon-porn will be posted in due course...
  9. Dell seem to have a good offer on for ?700 or so you get a rig with 6Gb ram and ready to roll, also comes with a 20" widescreen, which I'll be flogging on here, so form an orderly queue. Maybe time to splash the cash... Still, it'll be antiquated in 5 years time...progress eh! Anyone else care to comment?
  10. I'm at the time now where an upgrade is due, as I want to be able to handle full HD film editing, and to have my lightroom/photoshop work process a little quicker, with now having 3x the mPixels I had when I bought this machine. Now, I've put together 4 of my PC's in the past, but back then I had my finger on the pulse of what's best in terms of CPU AMD V Intel and all the associated geekery that goes with it. So, question is this. I've a budget of ?450-500, and ideally just want a box I can plug in and go with, or at most install a HDD. BUT, if I get more bang for my bucks, I'm happy to plug it all together and do the work myself. i7 seems to be the latest baby out there, so maybe just a Mobo/Cpu/Fan/Graphics Card combo into my existing case and away I go? I'm currently running an Athlon 2.2mhz socket 949 with 3Gb DDR400 RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT. I'm guess this is end of life now. So, what would you suggest as the best upgrade path, ideally reusing that memory if I can? Some of the "Mix IT" on http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/ seem sensible...are they? LTP
  11. I thought it was also a trip hazard, given the way there was no attempt to blend the surface into the existing pavement, so there is a lip, about 1 1/2" high where they join. One for claimdirect methinks...

But reality check please Can I suggest you have a look at the Nokia 5800, http://www.tube5800.com/ I sue it as a tool for running my business, listening to sounds, carrying my music and so forth. Does pretty much everything you want (Inc exchange server sync-ing) Hell it even has GPS with geo-tagging, and I'm straight into facebook with it too. IPhone-Schmyphone, ditch the hype, get a Nokia 5800.....And the money you save you can carry a couple of spare batteries for continual on the go action. Joking aside though it is seriously good, well worth considering.
  13. JoJo09 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi all, > > I work in wimbledon and was hoping to commute by > car as the trains aren't very regular... Er...they are! There is one direct one (If not more), else take any train to Tulse hill and it's usually a 10 or so minute wait for the wimbledon train...then you're there in about 15 mins. Read the paper, get a coffee, and relax. OH, and if you MUST drive to Wimbledon best to go Via Streatham, back of Tooting, by the lido, then pick up the road from Colloers wood, then chuck a right at the first station before the tram line. Alternatively Brixton, Balham, Southfields, Plough Lane. But really, get a train...

THree months tells me you're not using that a huge amount! I can normally get about 10 hours use out of it before a recharge. >Thing is I've calibrated it and once I change the battery it means having to do this again. !?!?!?! The Forerunner doesn't need calibrating, it works of GPS. You sure it's a forerunner you've got? LTP. 205 Forerunner user.
  15. We run our running club mile championships there, and the road is just short of a mile, by about 9 yards. If for a running sensor, I'd suggest finding a track instead, less chance of wandering off the route the measurer took.

  18. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Rotherithe's far better than Blackwall, I agree > SAT NAV IS CRAP I disagree...that's the route mine suggest! To answer the original question, as other have, it depends where you want to go after the M1. Anywhere above the M18 then the M11/A14/A1 is the best option. Otherwise, oval/Through the congestion corridor, then turn to pass Lords, but take Hamilton Terrace, before going through swiss cottage, up to Brent Cross then mile on the North Circular before you pick it up at the start.
  19. Help-Ma-Boab Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Last years champion runner will be back to defend > the Barry Bear, Well there's no point in me turning up this year! I cam second last year and he's got no slower, and I've got no quicker... Besides, I'm doing 20 miles the next day on the North Downs, so not up for big beers if I do turn up! Though I do have a cunning plan in mind....
  20. I remember back in about 1994 someone on the radio talking about their winner predictions for about 7 "Oscar" categories. They then closed it by saying "Go and put an accumulator bet on these and you'll thank me for it next week." The payback being something like ?5000 for a ?1 bet. Now, other than a raffle ticket I never gamble, but on that day I thought, "why not" so duly trotted off, looking for a bookies. Could I as hell find one to take the bet on? Not one would, from the big ones to the local ones. The next week he was ecstatic, was not however....I still have the tenner burning a hole in my pocket, so if anyone has a 5000/1 dead cert tip they'd like to pass on....
  21. lenk Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Anyone eaten there or had a takeaway? I went in there about 2-3 years ago, and had to leave before we ordered. The reason being the design of the tables. For some reason, there is a bar between the legs, about 4 inches below the bottom of the table-top, which in effect stops you getting close enough to the table to eat. So not wanting a bad back, or food on my lap, we left. I so want to eat there, but until the tables are changed then I won't/can't...
  22. I had to call Southwark today as my rent is in arrears due to swapping bank accounts for the payment and one being missed. I made the call, there was no Automated system! I explained that I wanted to pay money, and the lady asked me to hold. 2 minutes later she took me off hold, but the phone was obviously left on the desk, as I spent the next 5 mins trying to get her attention by whistling, while they chatted about banal TV from last night. Utterly useless.....

You'll get your bear, it'll be on the back of the 13:29 mins past bus heading for the clockhouse....better get practicing.....
