4. Mentioning my IQ......
-
1. Not having time to get to know my father (He died when I was 7) 2. Selling My MK1 Mini Rally Car... 3. Not applying myself more. I'm not stupid (IQ is 142) but I have a huge fear of failure, which really holds me back. All depressed now.... :-(

Why can?t they get it right the first bloody time?
LostThePlot replied to Brendan's topic in The Lounge
Sadly Brendan, our big companies are purely driven by profit. So long as they can squeeze more profit out the customer service comes second. I worked for BT for 18 years, and during some of that time I worked in customer services for the payphone team in Croydon, and was proud of the job I did, and I was personally responsible for handling a customer's complaint through to it finally being resolved. We had to give our names in full, our direct phone numbers and the office address, in case anyone wanted to visit to discuss a problem. Then one day we wer told we had to answer our calls within the first three rings, which we normally did anyway, and that we could take no more than 5 days to resolve a problem. (Which ranged from someone losing their money in the phone, through to someone wanting a phonebox installed or removed - Which can't be done in 5 days!) Suddenly our priority was hitting call handling figures, which obviously meant you had to compromise somewhere, and that was in the quality of the service you had to deliver. When i left that department I was dealing with all the complaints received from East Anglia to South Wales, and everywhere to the south. (Including London!) and had 80 complaints ongoing at any one time, this was due to them shutting down the cust service office, in Plymouth. Sadly, the pressures in the environment are not condusive to the people providing a good service, which means we suffer. Sadly though, very few managers in these industries have the common sense to realise that if you do a job right the first time, it's the cheapest way to do a job, rather than repeat calls from the customer, and repeat visits, whcih just see costs spiral. It creates its own problems. I'm glad I left when i did in 2005 Eric -
Why is Southwark Council so rubbish??

We > spoke to Gilbert Briathwaite of the enforcement > team who said he did not know we had permission > and that we could put the posters, Sounds to me like there is no inter department communication. Maybe write to them about this and suggest they introduce a process whereby any poster that are granted permission have a Ref Code assigned to them, and this must be displayed on the poster. No code and the poster can be taken down. It needn't be hard work, the ref code could be something as simple as PGD080502 (PermissionGratedDate (YYMMDD) They might even thank you for it! (But you should send any bubbly you get for this clever idea my way!) Eric -

Steam train (at Denmark Hill)
LostThePlot replied to joealessi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
joealessi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ...so i reckon it's a safe bet that it was the Golden Arrow (gold > star for lozzyloz!) Sadly, close, but no gold star... The golden arrow was the name of the train (Engine and carriages) that ran 'twixt London and Dover to connect with the boat trains to Calais. The coaches were originally Pullman (Very Luxurious) stock. It is now run by VSOE, who specialise in luxury steam train, and some boat, tours Click here to choose desitnations and see the eye watering prices!! I'm happy to say, as one interested in most mechanical things, there's lots of steam running over the network these days, which always makes for a good sight. LOz, I'd second Marcoban, Didcot will not suit the casualy interested kid, but can recommend the bluebell, and also the Romny Hyte and Dymchurch railway, on which the trains are 1/8th scale, live steam and run down the coast from Hythe (Unsuprisingly!) Good day our that, esp in summer, as can have a doss on the beach too. -
Doctors: Diagnosis By Phone
LostThePlot replied to LostThePlot's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well, a clinical nurse called me back, and booked in tomorrow for ECG and then blood tests and possible X-Ray for knackered ankle. Yes, it was prompt, and yes i will be seen, but still can't help thinking this is not a step in the right direction to be honest. -
scotslass Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Joined the runners club last Saturday - just > interested to find out if anyone on the Forum was > part of the group Yes I was, I was one of the helpers, (Did you put a bag in the car? - That was me!) and have been a member of the club for over a year now. Sadly, I've managed to damage my ankle quite badly the following day, (See the doctor thread) so have not been able to run since that day, which is a great pity :-( If anyone else is considering starting to run then please feel free to drop the club an e-mail (www.dulwichparkrunners.co.uk) and we'll get on touch when the next beginners course is to be held (later this year). Be warned though, they get booked up very very quickly. Eric

Or (cynically) It is an exercise in reducing costs, or maybe allowing more time to allow private work by the doctors?... Yes it could, and can see the sense in that, but had the doctor called me back then maybe I'd not be so wound up about this. Also, had they actually written to us and informed us of this as well. It's all about how you introduce something like this. -

Was supposed to be called at 10am.....off to chase them now... **EDIT** "The doctor has not yet called me" "I think they tried to call you, but you didn't answer" "No, phone is on my desk next to me, it hasn't rang." "I can get them to call you this afternoon between 2 and 3 pm." So we wait..... -
I'm sorry if this has past me by in the world in general, but called my docs today (Melbourne Grove Medical Practice) to ask for an appointment, as have had some fainting of late, and also badly twisted my ankle during one of them, so wanted to get checked out. Was told by the receptionist that the doctor will call me later today to have a discussion with me about my symptoms, and to see if I then warrant an appointment! Receptionist said this was introduced today and is their new way of working. I'm sorry, has the world passed me by, but is this the way all doctors are going?

Ant, Sorry, now people mention it, I'd personally send you down the Skoda Octavia route. Get the estate and you won't go wrong. Very popular as a taxi in the provinces, simply because they are bomb proof and do inter-stellar miles.

Ant Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I shall be driving to the cabbage-strewn wastes of > Lincolnshire this weekend to visit the in-laws, > and possibly get a car while I'm up there in order > to avoid paying London prices. It works the opposite way. Due to the concentration of cars in London the prices tend to be cheaper as there is a greater market of 2nd hand cars, so prices have to be more competitive. From people I have spoken to the large supermarket type places seem to be good. Or, if you're savvy enough, the auctions. At that age you might even get a warranty with them. Depends what you want Keef? I use a Nokia N95, as it allows me to keep tabs with my mails, gives me good web access and also syncs with Outlook to allow me to keep all my contacts with me at all times. 5mp camera too is not bad. I use all this gadgety stuff as i'm self employed and it's realyl useful for what I want. Downside is the battery life can be a bit poor. Less than a day with a bit of surfing, calling and mailing. I too looked at the LG Viewty, thought it was dead sexy, but not one person could tell me if it synced with Outlook, so I went for the Nokia. Having had a brief spell with Sony E I found it a struggle to do simepl things and found nokia much more intuative. You might come at this from the other direction.

Bon Scott, singer of AC/DC died in East Dulwich after a night on the Pop. (Overhill, or Underhill road, one of the two*) His death lead to the band releasing Back in Black, with Geordie boy Brian Johnson on vocal, and so producing one of their most widely acclaimed albums. Any male teacher in their 40's will be impressed by this, and likely make a pilgrimage. Eric * It's been mentioned on here before, but can't find it in the search...annoyingly
