I think my favorite was said by a friends father, describing their cat, which was crouched behind a bush, it's eye's fixed on a bird nearby... "Look at him, all wound up like a tiger ready to bounce..." Also, I will drop "The world is my lobster" into conversations, just to see if if it gets any remarks. At a local level, my in-laws are in the west country, where Bristolians have a habit of adding an additional "L" onto the end of words that end in "A". So A trip to the supermarket becomes "I went to to Asdal, with Natashal" took me a bloody age to work out what they were doing. Oh, and not a malaprop, but why the hell do people in the west midlands talk about "Islands" instead of roundabouts like the rest of us....never got to the bottom of that one.

Just sublime, and Baylan is developing along nicely as the sidekick. Must say, never hear it until about 3:02, JUST IN CASE I hear the god awfully irritating Robert "Professional Cockney" Elms. 5. Well, for those of you who didn't make it you missed a blinding event! I guess there were about 15 runners and all was starting well until the group photo, which saw Mr MacGabhann, take a tumble while trying to climb on a table. Interviewed later he replied "I just really wanted to get into the shot, in case it was a photo finish...." Once under starters orders the race in earnest began, with some seriously quick supping taking place. For many Guinness seemed to be the pint of choice, while a vodka chaser seemed to be popular, with one competitor adding in some lemonade and lime, just to make sure they enjoyed the experience as much as possible. Speaking as a competitor it al looked well with a "second out the door" putting me in good stad for the rest of the race. After about 1/4 of a mile I caught my man ahead, and was waiting for the inevitable, Paul (From my running club) to come past me, and sure enough he did, about 1/2 mile into the run. Though I kept him in my sights i knew to catch him was beyond me, so wound back my stride as there was no one visible over my shoulder. Once at the Clockhouse, where we were greeted by masses of adoring fans, and the organising team, it was a race to finish my pint ahead of Paul. I quick glance over the rim revealed he was faltering with his pint, so I went for it in a big way, but gagged half way through. Paul finished his pint about 2 seconds ahead of me, but SHOCK HORROR!!! His whiskey had not yet been served. Deciding that it would be very unsporting to beat a chap due to a slight technical issue, I offered him my rum. One event where it's not at all about the winning, (But one might as well try!) but about the taking part. I was proud to be part of an event steeped in such history and tradition. Cheers to the organisers, a top notch event, and well done to Floating Onion for his minor indiscretion at the end... ;-) Eric

  7. A Bear is the prize?.....(Undoes running shoes and puts on slippers...) Who'd want that! I want a cheap and nasty medallion, same as all the other races I enter!

I'm a slow drinker you see...that's my problem....plus of course, this sort of sport is not normal for my training!
  9. Sean, Tuesday I ran 2.1 miles in 13m30 sec, so that equated to 0.8 miles in 4m 08 Seconds. So, allowing for beer time, and traffic halts, under 5 mins and I'll be happy.....feeling sick, but happy... ;-) E

  11. Sorry B, I'm too competitive to take something like this lightheartedly! I'll be going for a time on this! E

  13. I was regulary paying ?50 month for my mobile with 02, so said I was off elewhere to them. They came back with an offer. "?25 a month for 200 minutes and 100 free text" - Utterly F*ing clueless IMHO ...

What was the subject? IF a point and shoot camera some can change the ISO setting on the camera, so it may have upped it to a higher number, so increasing the "grain" in the image. Do you know what ISO the image was taken at?
  15. Can I suggest you let us know who's dissapointed you so we don't recommend them? I use Photobox for my stuff, and have no problems with it. What sort of things are dissapointing you? Colours/delivery time....what?

It's hardly Crammed is it really, let's be honest about it. The benefit is that there is only one gate in and out, so less escape routes to worry about when dog is off the lead. > And we need to find some way of imposing punishment on > those who don't retrieve their dogs' mess. 17. Well, what's the thoughts on George winning? Well deserved I thought.
  18. James Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >Most dog-owners I know abhor the irresponsible people who allow their dogs to foul public spaces and bite children. This hits the nail on the head. While ultimately you can't stop a dog crapping if it needs too, you can train the dog to wait until it is in the right area (What I do with the dog I look after - We walk briskly to the Sainsbury doggie area for "toilet time", and the wander back is a sedate affair.) > We all pay our taxes so the park should be for all > of us, dog owners and non dog owners alike. Yes it should, but in this instance I think the smaller area of GG should be for dogs.

Ah, I was just about to post about this. As I read it the idea was to see if it improves things, by monitoring Doggie Do, and if not then banning dogs from the green altogether. Now call me a cynic, but if you allow dogs free roam across the whole of the green then surely it is going to be worst, so seems like they have already made the decision to ban dogs. Personally speaking, as some one who responsibly scoops, the problem with GG for dogs is that they have the run of the greater share of the green, and also within that area there are three exists through which an errant dog can get onto a road. Personally I believe the dog area should be smaller, with only one way into it. Will be interested to hear what the person who's name is on the poster has to say, as I'll be mailing her.
  24. Anyone know which 8 acts are up tonight? I find this programme incredibly addictive, even after the freakshow stages, unlike X-Factor, which is only good for the freakshow aspect.
