Yep - clearly shown as a church from this OS map from the early 1900's https://maps.nls.uk/geo/find/#zoom=16.3&lat=51.45639&lon=-0.08270&layers=298&b=11&z=0&point=0,0

I've been using the 5G Broadband from Three for about 12 months. Pretty good speeds (over 100Mb) but it can vary and I suspect as take up increases speeds will drop. Of course it depends on how close you are to the transmitters. As for TV I use Now TV and Apple TV, both are built-in to my TV as Apps.

Pugwash, I'd politely suggest you've been had. Have a look through Bob's posting history and you'll find posts not too dissimilar a theme.

New JAGS Pre-Prep on East Dulwich Grove
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A. What's wrong with a bit of architectural diversity? B. The houses on the other side of the road vary a fair bit in style from the Village to Townley. C. The proposed building is considerably more substantial and imposing than the current houses. -
New JAGS Pre-Prep on East Dulwich Grove
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm not sure that this would really increase the traffic as those driving are already in the area as they're going to the existing pre-prep. These ones. -
JAGS currently house their pre-prep school in the big building on the corner of Dulwich Village and Village Way. They are proposing to demolish the two houses in East Dulwich Grove (number 152 and 154) that are next to their site and build new premises into which they will move the pre-prep. Details here, including upcoming exhibition of the proposals on 10th and 11th November. https://www.jagspre-prepproject.org.uk/proposals Looks like they haven't formally submitted a planning application yet so I guess this is an exercise in getting the local community on-side and minimising the objections. The website says that the would plan to turn the existing pre-prep building into residential accommodation, but I would guess that this would something they not have a hand in and would be the subject of a separate planning application. My personal view is that I don't really have an issue with this but I do wish they would not make arguments like: "Putting unused buildings to better use Deliver a new Pre-Prep facility consisting of two buildings on land that is currently owned by JAGS and is occupied by unused 1960s housing." Well the houses are only empty because they haven't been marketed at a realistic price. Fundamentally there's nothing wrong with them. Mid century modern is all the rage. "Attractive buildings fit for their surroundings Deliver attractive buildings that are in-keeping with this part of the Dulwich Village Conservation Area." Hmm. Not sure that was the brief with the theatre they built 100 metres away a few years ago. It's architectural style is not exactly "in-keeping". I have no problem with a mix of styles though so to be honest I would rather see something adventurous than a pastiche. Green credentials - I appreciate the strong emphasis on minimising carbon output but that's hardly helped by artificial grass in the play area.

According to the You and Yours report, the CMA (Competitions and Markets Authority) is looking at supermarket pricing and due to report back in a few months.
-
Exactly. It would be different if you paid for the card in the first place but you don't. Just curious - is it possible to have a card without access to a computer and/or an email address ?
-
I'm wondering how long the supermarkets can run these schemes that discount the price of items for those with a loyalty card. As so often is the case these days it seems to exclude those in society that don't have access / can't use technology. And the price difference can be large, for example I bought some sugar in Sainsburys yesterday (cake baking) and the normal non-Nectar price was £2.05, the Nectar price was £1.15 - that's a huge difference. The Nectar price of some tomatoes was 75% of the non-Nectar price. It seems unfair to exclude these lower prices from those that don't have a supermarket loyalty card.

From Dulwich Society: Charter East Dulwich School: contractors working on incorporating the old hospital buildings into the school demolished walls that turned out to be structural. Construction methods used on the ‘chateau’ building made it difficult to determine which walls were structural. Temporary props have been installed and are being monitored.

KOKUM Indian restaurant & bar
ed_pete replied to Simeron Lily Patel's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ate there on Saturday evening. Really lovely meal and definitely a million miles from your typical Indian restaurant. FOH staff talked us through the menu which was really helpful. Even the chef came out and had quick chat late-on. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood. -

OK renewal time again. This time it's increased by 35%. About a 30% increase last year. Overall increase of 75% comparing 2021 premium to 2023 premium. No claims made in over 20 years. Anyone else getting massive increases in buildings insurance ?

Squatters in East Dulwich ! Whatever next !

Well looks like it's working well then.😉

I found these pictures on https://www.layersoflondon.org/ Fascinating view of the houses between Townley/Greendale/EDG and the corner at the bottom of the hill. Big houses by the look of it, be worth a bob if they were still there. I believe they were compulsorily purchased by the council in the early 1960's so that they could build the Dutch Estate on the land.

I've had similar experiences. Saturday morning. Lots of people at both the SmartShop and Self Scan checkouts. Half the terminals not working. One member of staff on duty. Probably won't make any difference but I heard from the delivery driver that they are closing for a couple of weeks in August for a refurb.

I think they are open again. I was able to pick up a jacket they repaired for me last week.
-
I'm in the same situation. I took a jacket in for repair and then they shut shortly after. Have you tried asking the coffee shop or newsagents if they know anything ?
