  1. You say 'thanks for that' in a slightly sarcy tone as my view doesn't agree with yours. I could be wrong. The evidence apparently shows motorcylsits are safer in bus lane - can you point us to this evidence?, the links are all about the perceived risk to cyclists. How is the information collated and compared really with regard to increased safety? I doubt that in the long run it makes that much difference. Motorcyclists are most at risk from cars turning into traffic from side roads as you point out, being in a bus lane aint gonna help there IMO and the evidence seems to point to this being the case. Motorcyclists travel at the same speed (supposedly 30mph) as the rest of the traffic - why do they need the bus lanes? The argument is that they shouldn't be in a queue of traffic if it is slow moving - well hell, why should the cars? Frequently as a pedal cyclist I have been shaken by motorbikes passing me very close at speed after moving out of slow traffic and into the bus lane. Don't think I am biased against motorbikes particularly as Mr Asset and I used to have one and we travelled many miles on it.
  2. Crumpets need to be toasted on both sides. The bottom should be pretty well toasted and the top not so. Slathered in butter.
  3. I don't think motorcyclists should be allowed to use bus lanes.
  4. Hmmm, I live v close to the Calton/Townley junction and wasn't consulted.
  5. I noticed a strange plasticy flap where the card goes in the other day on the Barclay's cash machine, the one to the right of the doorway. I'm pretty sure it said no cash before it took my PIN though.
  6. it is a terrible junction. Court Lane does have the right of way. It's even worse when you come down Court Lane and want to turn right up Calton Ave, people look at you like you're a nutter. Something definitely needs to be done with changing the layout.
  7. yes me, I am being asked for service charge now even though when I bought the property Southwark council gave me assurance in writing that no service charge was payable. Not only that but my property is a street property and not part of the estate for which I am being charged a service. Bit crap, gonna have to embark on legal stuff I can't afford. The council should give you a breakdown of the exact costs and how they are apportioned so at least you can see what they're charging you for.
  8. richard something?
  9. I heard Big Ben easily when I lived at the Elephant but I've never heard it from here. A couple of years ago the Alleyn's clock was stopped from chiming after 11pm and doesn't start again until 7am. Shame.
  10. I wanted to call my first child (who ended up a boy luckily for him) Lettice but everyone laughed at me - I can't imagine why.
  11. I got spat at years ago by some old grimalkin piss-head in the street who just happened to take a dislike to the way I looked (young and fresh compared with wrinkly old bag). She then proceeded to cackle that she had 'AIDS'. It is a really horrible feeling of violation. I sympathise. I did however get the boot into her arse as she walked off. I don't agree with the 'hope he dies' gang but you can imagine that he will get his just desserts some time.
  12. thames clipper to London Bridge? takes Oyster too.
  13. There's a clock which chimes the hour on Alleyn's school.
  14. Asset

    bank charges

Actually, the judge implied that while the OFT have been barking up the wrong tree, there is another tree that they can try so all is not yet lost.
  15. I expect he'll be extra grumpy after this thread
  16. Aladdin at Wimbledon Thatre - with Pamela Anderson if you're lucky!
  17. Probably has mental health issues, in which case it is a disability, unpleasant for those around but what can be done about it?
  18. probably more to do with the lack of pavements at the moment
  19. you could try re-useables, save you a lot of money.
  20. I've read his book "Dulwich - A History". And very interesting it is too. Personally I'm pleased to live so close to such a historical and pleasant part of London even if I can't afford to live bang in the middle of it.
  21. At what point can we stop having to put our kids on our lap? If we go on the basis that they're not paying my 13 yr old son who is bigger than me would have to sit on my lap - or maybe me on his.
  22. I walk my dog down there a couple of times a day - yes, off the lead - and it is fairly well used. It's not often I walk down and there's no one else around either on foot or bike, so I don't feel too worried during the day. I wouldn't do it in the dark though.
  23. I'll stick to Mario & Sonic
  24. I agrre Keef, I'm of the same mind. Everyone gets up in arms (pun intended) when soldiers get killed but isn't that a risk of the job? You don't join the army and not think you may get sent to a war zone and subsequently killed, goes with the territory surely.
