  1. blimey, I suddenly feel so fortunate. The surgery I (thankfully, hardly ever) go to is great, appointments easily made and pleasant doctors. It's not all doom and gloom on the NHS.
  2. the child had probably given up crying a long time before
  3. No, maybe quids and microbite not, but aren't people in the position of social work trained to pick up on these things?
  4. great website ianr, strangely fascinating. Early flights are showing a flight number now.
  5. yes. I can't believe it's difficult. I think Tony is just laughing at the thought of us doing it.
  6. I'm bringing my pram - if only to chuck my toys out.

Of course it's rude but some people are rude, and as you say - and I said previously - not just pram users, so this whole thread seems pointless. That's my point. I'm not some sort of evangelical pram-pusher supporter Saying that, my dad who has just spent time here after living in the Balkans for the last few years was commenting on how pleasant and polite everyone is here, so it's all relative.
  8. Drat, I was hoping for more hilarity from the Fawlty Stationers.
  9. They're talking about how it will affect the markets tomorrow. If it's anything like the rate slash to 1% in the states a week or so ago the markets will carry on dropping regardless.

Acedout - the OP doesn't refer to 'oversize' prams, but asks the ridiculous question about why should they 'force' their way into shops and why they don't go in single file on the pavement as it inconveniences her having to step aside for a moment. Actually most prams are far more compact than in the days of the old Silvercross prams, double buggies are different but again new designs have the children one in front of the other rather than side by side thus taking up less of people's valuable pavement space. I'm sorry to keep on with this but it just strikes me as really petty and intolerant when people moan about such pointless and inconsequential things.

well fair enough but that's like saying 'people in general could be a little more considerate'. Some are some aren't. Some car drivers are inconsiderate bastards but I'm not putting a thread on here every day moaning about it.

good, you won't mind volunteering to carry someone's 2.5 yr old and the shopping to help make pram free day a reality
  15. I never look in the what's on section
  16. I was quoted fees of ?1,700 for a new mortgage recently!! In the end I went with a higher interest rate with no fee. Are the banks passing on these rate cuts? Well, one bank today has said they will (the first time since rates started going down) But you can bet that they cut the savings interest rate PDQ before the lending rate. Bastards. People should be encouraged to live within their means, we don't need that new gadget or those new boots. Probably those items are not produced in this country so the UK economy doesn't see the benefits anyway. Let's face it, once people have been encouraged to put a bit of money away - thus putting money into the banking system and getting the reward of a decent interest rate - they'll spend it in the end. What's the point of saving money if inflation eats it away? Oh hang on, the government's debt also gets inflated away, funny that!
  17. I've said it before and been disagreed with, but I think the rates should be going up not down. We are now in a situation where inflation is at around 5/6% and interest rates are at 3%. Ummmm WTF? Let's just spend our money, rack up loads of credit, get ourselves in hock. Great. Wasn't the credit crunch blamed on the greed and overextending of credit? What does cutting interest rates say?

It's a sad state to be in if standing to one side for a couple of prams for a few seconds is a huge burden. IMHO obviously. I like a maggot or two.

and while we're at it what about those inconsiderate people in wheelchairs taking up the pavements and pushing their way round shops. sheesh they should get out and walk.
  20. Marcella Hazan, so not just any old cook book!
  21. I know, it's fabulous what you can glean from a cook book.
  22. The trinity of carrots, onion and celery sauteed to become a soffritto is the basis for many Italian sauces and soups. Thou shalt not denigrate the humble carrot.
  23. I hate to shatter illusions but a classic Bolognese ragu should contain carrots!! Much as they may be anathema to some.
