I was taken to see Bob Marley, The Beach Boys, Eagles, Santana, Pink Floyd (at Knebworth) and grew up with the records of Steely Dan, Little Feat, The Doors etc etc - bit of a hippy kid. Still love 'em all now.
but the example I gave on a previous page is exactly a case of discrimination against non-faith persons. There are other examples in Dawkins's book of unnecessary advantages given to people or organisations because of their religious beliefs that wouldn't be afforded those that are not religious. What about the 'right to life' militants in the states who actually feel justified to kill people on the grounds of 'religious' beliefs?
It may be justified but it's a bit crap. Water expenses are deductable from profits. It smacks of money grabbing to me and is not particularly Buddhist.
I usually get train to London Bridge change for ch x and walk the rest. half an hour tops. don't know why I got the effing bus the other day, it took half an hour to get to Camberwell.
'Family pub' I believe. Place seems fairly devoid of children or adults every time I go past these days. Except on Sunday afternoons when it's full of tourists.
I know Keef, and part of me thinks he deserved a clip round the ear and hopefully it will make him think twice about his behaviour but chances are it probably won't, it'll just make him more careful about who he gives cheek to.
If you remove the 'no' then that's religion. I'm an atheist. However I do like visiting churches and standing stones etc. for the architectural and cultural interest. I think the campaign is a good thing as people and institutions get given concessions based on their religious beliefs yet there is not really an alternative for non-religious types. For example: The church in New Mexico given dispensation by the US Supreme Court on the taking of hallucinogenic drugs as they 'believe' it helps them understand god etc.. Yet sufferers of MS who 'believe' cannabis relieves their symptoms are criminals. (lifted from The God Delusion).
I stood at the stop at the top of Charing X Rd today for about 30 mins before discovering the bus now goes from St Giles High St round the back. Only realised as I heard someone saying so. The sign on the bus stop giving this detail is on one side of the bus info thingy. As someone who is usually familiar with the route etc I had no need to look at the damn bus info thingy. Buggers. Before anyone asks why didn't I walk, I had a small child and a couple of bags with me or else I would have.
I don't want to see LL ending up like any other boring high street with bookies, pound shops and fast food joints and nothing else. I know many on here would be glad to see the back of the 'tat shops' but I like the independent boutiques and veg shops. Let's hope the space becomes something useful yet stylish (slightly tongue in cheek that last comment).
I researched the diff between plasma and lcd last year when I got a new telly (plumped for Sony Bravia 26" LCD - love it). It used to be the case that plasma screens performed better than lcd in a large size but not anymore, lcd can deal with the larger size screen.
I think interest rates should be going up not down. Live and do business according to our means etc. I hope most of the independents will weather this. Time to buy local.
but debt is cheap now, gearing may be high but the payments are manageable or should be due to constant reducing of interest rates. Equity is what larger companies are losing due to stock value reducing and investments which go wrong no? Small companies don't normally have a high amount of equity do they?
Actually I have a theory that the independent shops will survive this. The chains that are all crashing around us at the moment will have had much of their profits invested in, say, Icelandic banks or the stock market. Independents are less likely to have lost vast amounts of their profits in this way and run on a level of credit which is cheaper now than it has been for a while. Maybe it will be the end of the chains and the small supplier will benefit.
I'm on Orange and in the village the reception used to be bad but seems to be better of late. I think the reception problem is because it's in a bit of a dippy hollow rather than nimbys or trolls (although I like the idea of a troll at the toll.
what were those prawn cocktail flavour crisps shaped like little shells? Fit perfectly on the tip of the tongue and tingled crazily for a minute before melting into the mouth. I like them, can't remember what they're called.
"in a year from now LL will have more boarded up shops than a town in South Yorkshire." Just to pick up on that point - I really hope LL doesn't end up with boarded up shops like it was in the early 90's. I much prefer it the way it is now, with nice shops selling nice things. Yes some of the things are expensive nay, even overpriced but which would we rather hsve? Tumbleweed?
