  7. I really don't get the thing with Ganapati. Admittedly I have only been once but I was distinctly underwhelmed. Mr Asset makes the best 'curry' in ED so we never get to try the local restaurants.
  8. I went to Jordan over Christmas and New Year 88/89. We travelled independently. Myself and my mother flew to Amman, stayed there a couple of nights, hired a car and then travelled to the north to some Roman ruins - can't remember the name. Driving round Amman was hilariously freaky, mental traffic. Roads north hairy but doable, pretty mountainous. Hitchhiked back to Amman from some bizarre health spa resort on the coast of Dead Sea that we had gone to for Christmas day. Then we got a shared taxi (more bizarreness) for the 8 hour drive to Aquaba (sp) on the Red Sea coast. Armed checkpoint just along coast at the border of Israel. Also did a trip to Petra and a camel ride in the Wadi all organised by us while we were there. It is pretty interesting, there is lots to see and evidently fairly easy to navigate without the help of a tour company as we managed it 20 years ago (gawd that makes me feel old). No idea about Syria.
  9. I'm pretty sure it is connected to the old E&C Castello

  11. and not have to pay the subscription
  12. Have you been to the Lanes in Brighton?
  13. OK, As far as I know, they are relatively inefficient i.e. they have to be turned off in high winds! The foundations for the turbines are massive holes pumped full of concrete that will never be able to be removed, access roads have to be built to them, they cause problems for fledgling birds; in Scotland there have been issues with endangered birds e.g Golden Eagles being killed by the sails and there are the huge costs involved in manufacturing the turbines and the land subsidies. Not to mention the fact that they are fairly unsightly and pretty noisy if you live close by. My mother, who lives in rural Scotland, looked into having one small turbine installed to provide power but apparently she has the 'wrong type of wind'. I'm all for renewable energy but sometimes the options smack of jobs for the boys and lining pockets. Harnessing wave energy would be far less impactful and much more efficient but fewer people would be able to make any money from that. If governments in future really want to make a difference, there needs to be legislation that makes all new build houses have a solar panel, ground source heating etc etc. Oh hang on though if houses convert to ground source heating what will the gas and oil companies do then?
  14. They are so middle class. Obviously Lordship Lane was better 15 years ago.
  15. is this thread de-lounged? I didn't used to be middle class but I am now and proud of it! Perhaps I'll join a private club to celebrate. Hello new person - don't take any ribbing too seriously.

No - I wouldn't rather burn fossil fuels and I will talk about renewable energy. If you do a little research you will find that wind farms are not the way forward and it's nothing to do with the view.
  17. Wind farms are terrible full stop, although at sea they would be better than on land. They are not put out at sea as no one would be able to get the subsides available for the land use. The negative impact of the turbines outweighs what little energy they produce.
  18. went for lunch today only to discover the restaurant doesn't open until 5pm. Should have researched a little I suppose.

I think the problem at the Academy is that if people get up and jiggle around the balcony may collapse. I remember being at a Leftfield gig there and the plaster was falling off the ceiling due to the bass.

    Mushrooms

many years ago when I was young and irresponsible, I and a couple of friends went to one of the poshest hotels in Edinburgh, ordered afternoon tea and filled the teapot with mushrooms. I wonder what the kitchen staff thought when they were washing out the pot! Though if they were anything like most kitchen staff I've come across they probably refilled it.

you used to be able to buy Mexican mushrooms in Camden. Big and mouldy looking. They are good, really quite mild and gentle. Psilocybin are among the strongest hallucinogenic mushrooms you can get.

Cassius Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I saw some magic mushrooms in the American Garden > in Dulwich Park last week.............. Did you really Cassius? Did you see psilocybin (tiny, biege, nipple on top) or flyagaric (red with white spots). If it is the former I'll be down there this weekend! In re. mushroom kits, we got one for Christmas one year, followed the instructions and absolutely nothing happened. Not a mushroom to be seen. I would be up for trying again though so let us know how you get on.
  25. Not seen it, wanted to though. Is it worth it? Poss not now I've read this!
