  1. I like the idea of some town council or other which I read about last year. The street cleaners don't do the job for a couple of days once a month or something and the idea is to make people more aware of the litter and hopefully think before littering. Not sure if it worked. Part of the problem is the idea that it doesn't matter as someone will come along and clear it up.
  2. Bush for one is unable to say the word nuclear correctly - nucular - poss not technically a malaprop, just a twit.

Not me for one, and I wouldn't go to Asda specifically because it's owned by Walmart. It may be futile but it is my choice. And just to add, I am not telling anyone what they can or cannot do or even telling anyone to consider their responsibilitiesm, merely pointing out some information that I am aware of regarding Mcds. Personally I wouldn't like a Maccy Ds on LL as I used to live close to the one on Wally Rd and the smell was vile (IMO) and the litter was bad. I know they employ people to clear the litter but the radius of responsibility is fairly small.
  4. McDonalds in the USA do not (or did not, prob still the case unless someone cares to disabuse me) allow their staff to join unions. There is a lot of extremely interesting information in the book I mentioned, Nero is possibly confusing it with the 'Supersize Me' experiment. The book does not soley focused on Macd's either and encompasses a whole range of issues surrounding the fast food experience.
  5. He's done the decent thing and left the sinking ship, no Russell sadly.
  6. Richard Avedon said "all photos are accurate, none of them is the truth".
  7. As you know PGC the tennis elbow means I cannot improve my score. that's two cards gone now, Nutty and PGC, one left.
  8. Jimmy Two Times can I recommend you read a book called 'Fast Food Nation'.
  9. Now, now, Macroban - that's inverted you know what. macroban Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Don't worry, Monica, it's only the snooty folk in > Dovercourt Road who like to pretend they live in > SE21.
  10. That's what I thought, but poss just thrown away without being read properly. I'm not really going to cash in on my vouchers BTW. I was rescuing them to be used and am happy to give them to any one that wants one.
  11. With you all the way on this one Sean, but then there is freedom of choice. But I am constantly amazed by the choices I see many people I think would know better, making. Jimmy, I hope you won't take that personally.
  12. exactly, bit like Primark
  13. It doesn't really taste nice though does it? And you are hungry again within the hour. Plus the whole multi national aggresive agri business is not on man.
  14. I've just walked down Dovercourt Rd where the paper recycling bags are out ready for collection and picked up 3 cards from various bags. I may set up a stall on Northcross this Saturday flogging ED bags if I can find any more.
  15. I think half pints might be in order
  16. I have friends who live next door to Jack Straw and he had armed police outside when he was home sec. I think the level of hardware reduces when said person is at home or not.
  17. I'm open to offers for mine - start the bidding at ?10
  18. might root in water
  19. I used to get Nastassja Kinski, now I get Jade Goody, hmmmm need to lose a few pounds obviously. Think I'd quite like the elfin features of Audrey Hepburn, no double chins there! (Andrew captured mine rather splendidly)
  20. Heucharas are good, seem to be quite fashionable at the moment as I am seeing them everywhere. They have different shades of green or purple foliage with tall thin flower spikes, also of differing colours. There is a large clump of them I noticed in Dulwich park the other day that are all flowering and they were absolutely covered with bumble bees. Peonies are lovely, nice foliage although flowers are fairly short lived and need plenty water in spring in order to flower. Lychnis also tolerate full sun and dry conditions and look nice in a large clump.
  21. the card says from the 14th while stocks last so that gives a few days to get the leafleting done I suppose
  22. Got a card throught the door today entitling me to a free bag
  23. Yeah but why? Trees are protected. In fact though Chestnuts which are old like that are dangerous as the large old boughs have a tendency to just fall off on top of whoever may be walking underneath. As I said, they are being replaced by young chestnuts which will outlive us all.
  24. yeah, okay Louisiana, I lived in India for a long time in the 80s and have seen fresh food prepared in all sorts of conditions but I stand by what I say. In a restaurant in this country, if the hygiene standards are poor I would not expect to eat a good meal prepared by people who give a shit. And just to add, the food you saw prepared on the floor was presumably by people who had washed their hands after taking a shit? And just to add more - did you eat any of this food?
