  1. you do surprise me, can't resist pointing out the tautology either.
  2. I don't think Premium bonds are good for long term investment as the value of your money in say, 15 years is a lot less than the value of your money today. Unless you have a substantial amount of cash in them the winnings are not likely to be as much as interest in a high interest account and even then not guaranteed.
  3. DC Lee shouted , "Hands off my fella"
  4. I'm all in favour of a ban on chewing gum - bugger civil rights. Until people can chew and dispose responsibly, then ban it.
  5. Sadly he caught me on an off day and I have been mugged. Gutted.

    In your yooooof

wouldn't that have been all of them?
  7. Quite, and I find all the slightly homophobic joky responses a little worrying no? Let's not forget the last thread where accusations of homophobia got a little out of control.
  8. I find the distinctive throb of a chinook quite exciting and always look to see them when I hear it. Agreed the representation of military might is not so nice but as a piece of hardware they are great.
  9. I'm kind of with STB and Huge regarding ID cards and CCTV. Whilst these things are fairly pointless - let's face it passports can be forged so ID cards will be too and until it becomes a case of the jack-booted neo nazi type police force waiting on street corners and randomly requesting to see them, whereupon you get duffed up if you cannot produce it, it's just another piece of plastic in the wallet. Likewise I think it has been shown that athough we are the most filmed population in Europe it has done little to actually reduce crime, but I'm not bothered by them. What does bother me is recently discovering that police routinely place drug sniffer dogs at the top of tube escalators etc. A person has no choice but to walk past them and that is an infringement of civil liberties in my view and taking the 'preventative' measures to a sinister level. In re. 42 days, It's ridiculous. I don't see what information can be gathered from somebody in that sort of situation that couldn't be gathered in say, 14 days. I seriously don't think political leanings have anything to do with these issues. I think if we had a Tory government for the last five years say, they would be doing exactly the same things because it's a cultural mindset rather than a political ideology. A collective ruling by fear.

  11. me too (provide, not want)
  12. sorry if this is boring to others but Nero, I just thought about bottle brush plants (Callistemon). I've got one and the bees love it. Loves full sun and is evergreen so all year round interest.
  13. I'd go for the St Tropez, much less likely to be a streaky nightmare
  14. Speaking of price inconsistencies, I was in the little Sainsbury's at Herne Hill yesterday and thought the wine was priced more highly than at DKH.

And the signs are not particulary obvious, obscured by tree foliage etc. I hadn't been to the pulse for a couple of years until the other day and remembered being able to park previously in non-delineated areas.
  16. It is a vicious circle as someone said earlier, but you really can't blame people for wanting to send their kids to a better school if they can rather than letting them stay at an underperforming school in the 'hope' that it might get better. As the report states it is the management and teaching that are inadequate not the calibre of the parents whose kids go there. It sounds like that it needs a makeover of the sort that happened to the school that is now the Charter. If that school managed it, GG can also but it's not going to happen overnight.
  17. Yes Denmark and Herne Hill. Ta Loz.
  18. yes, you could be right. Is it Herne Hill then as the Fox on the Hill is there?
  19. would that be what is now Brixton Hill then?
  20. I actually didn't go to Ibiza last week because of irrational fears and a deep sense of foreboding. Flight was booked and everything. That would be an example of me not managing the fears very well. I used to have the same fear re. being nuked Chav, where I lived I could hear the rumble of reverse thrust as planes landed and every time I thought 'this is it'. I think it was the time we grew up, my son is now displaying fears about global warming etc. I also think my fears are a symptom of being a bit of a control freak.
  21. Hey MrBen, Mr Asset is in the same boat. Maybe you should get together to write your speeches! He also started a thread about it a couple of months ago and got some useful replies if you want to do a search.
  22. Oh My Gosh, I've got so many I don't know where to begin!
  23. Although I do shop local and get veg deliveries etc. I now get most of my storecupboard items from Ocado. I find I spend substantially less than I did when I used to do the weekly shop at Sainsbury's, poss partly due to less impulse purchasing but for whatever reason it is a good thing!
  24. took your advice Monica and had a lie in. Didn't need to queue up and camp out all night and got my bags from SMBS, didn't realise I got two bags. Fabulous. Ratty and PGC, Mr. Asset has given one of the vouchers to another forumite I'm afraid so first come first serve on the spare one.
  25. okay, perhaps I was a bit harsh yesterday. It is not shit and I think I was one of the first to defend the place when others were deriding it as being not right for round these parts oo aaar. I did get a bit wound up by the - okay not loads, 2 - new posters getting all uppity (still suspicious). I did go in looking for a specific kind of thing and there was nothing in there that grabbed me particularly and most of the shoes do look a bit tacky IMO, I hate shoe shopping though. As I said earlier for ?200 I'd rather spend a wee bit more and get some Louboutins but chacun a son gout or summing like that.
