  1. We've got none. Go outside and ask him what he's playing at Sean.
  2. It wasn't for me when I was 25 and single but now that I'm all big and married and stuff it is fast becoming one.
  3. Glad you mentioned Michael Caine Mockney. He was the most significant figure in South African history up until, well you know who; Bob Geldof. I know what you mean Clive. If you have 100 displaced families living nomadically in ox wagons, 10 get eaten by warthogs, 15 get killed by zulus, 5 move to London to fix computers and return 3 years later married to uitlanders and 12 disappear for 7 years after a mysterious biltong related accident. What is the capital of Finland? Mongols do don't they?
  4. Not sure, I seem to remember someone called Simon van der Stel who I think was a General in WW1 and a bloke called Shaka who was the Governor of the Cape Colony.

  6. Well here we have it. Now it just remains to see who they field. Kevin Pietersen (captain), Tim Ambrose, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Monty Panesar, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss.
  7. I think most countries are the same to be honest. Unless you actually have an interest in finding things out yourself you are pretty much just going to learn the history that a bunch of bureaucrats in the Department/Ministry/office of Education feel will foster a national image which in most expedient to their political ends. Well that is if, like me, you are perpetually distrusting and paranoid. It could just be that you can only fit so much history into so many years of schooling.
  8. When I first came to England I was a bit confused about why you had named a beer after a vest.

  11. I don?t believe you MP. I don?t believe that the history curriculum includes more than a couple of romanticised accounts of Britain?s involvement in the 2 world wars. ;-)
  12. Yeah but he is hardly lorded as a hero by the Spanish over the Dutch.
  13. I wasn?t me it was some German who lived in denial of his Clintonsian cigar fixation. This may or may not have been a result of to much lager. Although I suspect he was just off his tits on coke.
  14. True, although I do quite like how I unintentionally capitalised the word Beer in my last post. It is nice to see a little bit of well deserved, Freudian Deification.
  15. The accurate definition is that larger, pilsner, stout, porter, ale, mild etc? are all types of Beer.
  16. Rob Key could perhaps come in as a top order batsman. I would like to see them give Broad another go. Or is he also injured at the moment? Then they can bring in Jones perhaps or even Hoggard for the specific reason that in the past he has been the one English bowler who has consistently got the better of Graeme Smith.
  17. But I?m not in Rome and I know full well that when someone says, ?Should we go for couple of beers tonight?? They mean neither specifically (but not excluding) what is known as ?real? ale (excluding mild of course) nor do they mean we are only going to have 2.
  18. I wonder of any consideration has been given to giving Freddy another chance or if he would even be interested in the job.
  19. The term ?beer? can refer to ale, larger or even stout but not to the likes of Carling or Fosters. These drinks are what is colloquially known as piss.
  20. Bloody hell I go away for a weekend and all hell breaks loose! Pity England didn?t manage to win that as having a final test worth playing for would have been good. Although now it seems that England have everything to prove in the next match. Well at least one of them will. I would have thought Strauss is the next natural captain and definitely the sensible choice. There is a part of me that feels that Pietersen will win you more matches. But let?s face it, that doesn?t seem to be the top priority in English cricket.
  21. Something interesting here that is actually related to that serious business of cricket. We are watching one of the most successful all rounders in the game, ever. Look how he stacks up to Mr G Sobers himself. ____Sobers / Kallis Tests: 93 / 122 Innings: 160 / 205 Not outs: 21 / 33 Runs: 8032 / 9681 Average: 58 / 56 Hundreds: 26 / 30 Fifties: 30 / 47 Best: 365 / 189 Wickets: 235 / 236 W/For: 34 / 31 Catches: 109 / 127
  22. Who cares it?s not gong to come if I call it.
  23. History? Don?t talk to me about history. We had proper history back in my day.
