Or use your phone browser at http://m.countdown.gov.uk and type in the five digit code which you'll find on the bus stop. Unlike the text service, this is free bar the data usage.
  2. The 12 is usually good, every 4-5 during the day. The 197 is more erratic to be fair.
  3. Southeastern have published their draft timetable from mid January 2015 as part of the London Bridge works. The big news for this area is this: The current Victoria to Dartford service will operate ALL DAY until 00.09 Monday to Saturday. An all day service from Victoria to Dartford on Sundays. This will reinstate the lost trains from PH/DH during evenings and Sundays to Victoria after the closure of the Southern SLL service in 2012. http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/your-journey/timetables/januarytimetable/

Free sat is much better reception and more > channels than free view. That explains it! If you ever buy a new Freesat box, it allows you to put your postcode in when installing and it'll put ITV London back on 103. There is a fiddly way of manually tuning in the satellite frequency for ITV London on a Sky box.
  5. GinaG3, do you have an active Sky card? If not, it'll default to ITV Central on Channel 103. Trentk69, it may be possible that you're getting your BBC channels from the Hannington transmitter in North Hampshire which can be received in parts of London. Check to see if "BBC One Lon" is in the 800s on your tv set instead.

That wouldn't surprise me, along with the fact they have more registered patients than Dr Sarma. I'm sure there are other reasons which haven't been publicised to why Dr Sarma couldn't get a junior partner to take over the practice when he retired. I read a report yesterday (sorry I don't have the link right now) where it claimed that it's now harder to get a younger GP to take over a surgery due to stress with older GP's retiring earlier because of the workload which doesn't just include seeing patients, but the overall practice. Independent surgeries are also competing with private sector practices such as Melbourne Grove (managed by Concordia Health) and DMC for patients.

Agreed, I can see the FH Picturehouse being a sister cinema for the ED one showing other movies and possibly the more mainstream fare. It could also come in handy if one of the ED screens isn't working and customers could be asked to travel to Forest Hill instead.
  8. According to NHS Choices, Dr Sarma has 2180 patients on his books, one of the lowest in SE22. Considering Melbourne Grove is within a short distance of Dulwich Hospital, most who want to continue receiving GP services in the same area will simply transfer across, despite the problems they've had in recent months. It's a shame when a practice closes as I went through the same process last summer, yet the patient capacity is there.
  9. If Wetherspoons does close and replaced with another Picturehouse Cinema, this is a positive move in FH's move towards bringing the town centre more upmarket. It should also make waiting for a bus outside there a lot less intimidating on Fri/Sat late nights.

Certainly not to ED station, which is about 10-15 minutes depending on the traffic. It's much closer to Forest Hill by bus. The bus stop outside Norman Court has some advantages, such as probably being the last bus stop where you can get a seat on the 176/185 in the morning peak before it gets crowded or travel the opposite way to Forest Hill station. It's hardly in a rail desert.
  11. I registered with 306 online just under a year ago and was relatively easy. They'll give you a call back to confirm an appointment to see a nurse for a medical check and to bring ID etc as you would when registering in person.
  12. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > On the flipside, its miles away from a station. Not really, 5 mins bus ride to Forest Hill by bus or 15 walking. A brisk 20 min walk to North Dulwich along Court Lane and the Village. Plenty of bus connections also either directly outside or from Barry Road, Dulwich Common or Underhill Road which connect to East Dulwich, North Dulwich, West Dulwich, Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill.
  13. A van with bottles of water is on LL by the shops opposite the Grove if you need any. It's not affecting the Lordship Lane Estate which continues to have water supply. Can't say if it's affecting Dukes Court, but everything on the other side of LL down that end is cut off.
  14. This is how 306 Medical Centre is able to still practice after Dr Dewji brought in Dr Chowdhury as a junior partner a couple of years back by having a PMS contract. He of course retired. Out of interest, here are the patient figures for the surgeries 1.2 miles away from Dr Sarma's practice. Melbourne Grove - 6777 DMC - Crystal Palace Road - 11,852 (Shared with Chadwick Road) The Hambleden Clinic - 3601 306 Medical Centre - 2701 The Gardens - 6916 DMC Chadwick Road - 11,852 (Shared with Crystal Palace Road) Sternhall Lane Surgery - 4569 Herne Hill Group Practice - 10,337 Lordship Lane Surgery - 4107 Elm Lodge Surgery - 7458 Forest Hill Group Practice - 12,662 Herne Hill Road Medical Practice - 5470 The Corner Surgery - 5411 The Nunhead Surgery - 7666 St Giles Surgery (Dr Patel) - 5959 St Giles Surgery (Dr Virji) - 4505 Lister Primary Care Centre (Dr Hossain) - 5165 Hurley Group Practice at the Lister (Walk in clinic) - 5498 Lister Primary Care Centre (Dr Arumugaraasah) - 5813 Brockwell Park Surgery - 6131 Camberwell Green Surgery - 10,014 With the excepting of the DMC group surgeries, Forest Hill Group Practice and Camberwell Green, there appears to be capacity at most in the 1.2 mile area at other practices, although The Gardens has shrunk it's practice area in agreement with NHS England.
  15. I didn't get a copy of The Scum through my door either.
  16. Looking at NHS Choices, based on reviews The Hambleden Clinic at Denmark Hill and 306 Medical Centre in Lordship Lane are the closest with decent reviews. The Gardens by Peckham Rye Common has shrunk it's catchment area to the surrounding streets. 306 has an online address checker which shows all of SE22 is covered and part of SE5, while Hambleden doesn't have an online check to see if you're covered.
  17. When my Peckham based surgery closed last year, it was business as usual two days before closing with no indication of the practice closing. The only notification I received was from NHS Southwark by post that the surgery had closed and that you should find another practice to register with ASAP.

Incidentally if you visit Sadlers Pharmacy opposite the library, this also has a similar issue with 80s style shelving and doesn't look like it's had any work done to it since then.
  19. My guess is with the grocer leaving, the rest of the premises will be sub-let to another business with the PO continuing at the back of the store. If anyone remembers the old sub PO on LL opposite the Grove, it shared with a chemist I think and when that closed, it didn't last much longer, despite a cab firm moving in.
  20. Perfectly fine here, even the London Live local tv channel is coming through properly.
  21. In the days when the PO grocer was called Mike O Deal, the PO was across the road in the shop which I think is now the butchers. When 'Mike' sold the PO shop, he moved it across the road where it is now. I suppose the reason for moving the grocer part to the former Dulwich Grocers premises is that sales are down thanks to Sainsburys Local and can only stay viable in smaller premises. Hopefully the fruit and veg stall is moving across with him too?
  22. Staggering results from our neighbours in Lewisham. 53/54 seats are Labour with the Green Party being the official opposition.
  23. College could end up with a by-election if re-elected Helen Hayes replaces Tessa Jowell as MP next May. However, I understand Ms Hayes can continue to serve on the council.
  24. Labour have 48 seats, Lib Dem 13, Con 2. Labour hold the council with a large majority.
  25. Village. 2 Con, 1 Lab, which means Robin Crookshank Hilton is out! Nunhead, Labour Hold.
