If you have a data bundle, use the mobile countdown site instead.
  2. Just use http://m.countdown.tfl.gov.uk on your mobile browser, when prompted type the bus stop code and it'll bring up the bus times on your phone.

Useless. Photocards were re-introduced for weekly paper travelcards requested by the train companies. The other excuse regarding weekly paper travelcards is poor customer service from Southeastern and you should make a complaint to their customer services regarding the 'service' from Denmark Hill's ticket office if they continue to refuse to sell you a weekly paper travelcard. Peckham Rye and East Dulwich still sell weekly travelcards on paper with a photocard. National Rail stations except for London Overground managed ones only sell weekly travelcards on Oyster via the machines. (Bar a minimum of NR stations, such as Wimbledon, East Croydon, Ealing Broadway and Richmond).

Not made clear is that period travelcards can still be sold on paper from Denmark Hill as the station is managed by Southeastern railway. It's only from London Overground managed stations that the changes were made to Oyster only.
  5. Southern have announced their temporary timetable for today. EAST DULWICH/PECKHAM RYE: 2 trains per hour to and from West Croydon. Beckenham Junction trains are cancelled. FOREST HILL/HONOR OAK PARK: 1 train per hour to Caterham (East Croydon). Outer South London line services to Victoria are cancelled. Northbound services to London Bridge are not operating due to a fallen tree between Forest Hill & Sydenham. London Overground services continue to start from New Cross Gate/New Cross with no services to Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Forest Hill and Honor Oak Park.

  7. I'd expect buses to run where possible. As long as there's no trees blocking the roads. London Overground have also decided to not to operate any services until 0900 tomorrow.
  8. Southern have announced that they won't be running any trains until 0900 on Monday due to Network Rail deeming it unsafe to operate a train service during the high winds. http://www.southernrailway.com/southern/news/monday-28-october/ There's no indication if London Overground will be operating at the moment.
  9. I've had debit cards and other important mail go missing in the last six months. A couple of weeks ago, an important letter was posted to my neighbour.
  10. There's a manhole cover by the Quorn Road bus stop which needs resurfacing at least once a year (if you're lucky) as the buses eventually cause it to sink into the ground. If you live in the flats opposite, you'll get a burst of the manhole cover making a noise as a heavy bus goes past.
  11. I was 8 years old and vividly remember the howling overnight. The next morning, there was part of a tree which fell down outside Glennie Court on the Lordship Lane Estate. The damage to that tree is still visable today. There was no electricity until around lunchtime, no telephone and school was closed. However, all back to normal the following day, bar the teams cutting up logs. My parents contacted friends who lived in West London who couldn't understand what the fuss was about!
  12. Jo Swinson MP claims it's sexist to offer a pregnant woman a seat after she was forced to stand up during PMQ's despite being heavily pregnant. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2464452/Pregnant-minister-Jo-Swinson-forced-stand-PMQs.html
  13. The road has fully reopened today.
  14. Glad to hear it, I ended up getting off the bus at Goose Green yesterday and walking to Sainsburys.

This is > illegal and totally uncalled for, there is plenty > of space in the road there to not hit the surface > water. I got splashed at the bus stop opposite Overhill Road on Thursday thanks to a speeding car. It's also formed a large puddle on LL outside the estate which normally happens after heavy rainfall with rain and a stream of water going into a drain outside Byron Court.
  16. The main burst in the centre of the road opposite Overhill Road on Wednesday afternoon. A Thames Water workman looked gormless and nothing has been done since with water streaming down LL and into the LL Estate.
  17. I'm just outside The Gardens catchment area, so with 306 instead as The Lordship Lane Surgery has had some really bad reviews on NHS choices. Can't complain about their service and Dr Chawdhery is great with my mother.
  18. The DfT announced the opening of bids for the new combined Southern, Thameslink and Great Northern franchise which will start in September 2014 for Thameslink and Great Northern, the shared FCC/Southeastern service to Sevenoaks in December 2014 and Southern in July 2015. As part of the new franchise, the new franchisee will take over management of the recently renovated Denmark Hill, Nunhead and stations along the Catford route from Dec 2014. Peckham Rye, East Dulwich and North Dulwich will be managed by the new franchisee in July 2015, while Forest Hill and Honor Oak Park will stay with London Overground. Denmark Hill is surprising as London Overground will still provide the majority of services post the Thameslink 'improvements' as the peak requirement for the news. More info and downloads on the Gov.UK website. Warning, one of the documents is 243 pages long. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/essex-thameside-and-thameslink-southern-and-great-northern-invitations-to-tender-published

Hope the man is ok. I understand Southwark want to make all of their managed roads a 20mph zone. This would include LL from Goose Green to Melford Road. The rest of LL is managed by Transport for London.

  21. I haven't been to Bluewater, but a travel tip is if you go by rail, go from Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye and ask for a ticket to Bluewater. This will give you not just your train ticket (changing at Dartford) for Greenhithe, but also the short bus trip on FastTrack to the shopping centre to/from the station.
  22. For the basics, like Boots and Superdrug, I shop in Peckham along with the Argos store there. Otherwise I go to Westfield Stratford City which has M&S, Primark, John Lewis and most if not all of the trendy fashion stores which is around a 25/30 mins train trip changing at Canada Water on the London Overground for the Jubilee line or Oxford Street. I've given up on the local South London high street shopping areas such as Bromley, Croydon and Lewisham. There isn't the range of shops or stock in comparison to Westfield or Oxford Street.
  23. Parts of the SE21 postcode are in Lambeth with Croxted Road as the boundary between Lambeth and Southwark.

  25. There used to be a monthly magazine published by the Foundation for Human Development around 10-11 years ago called the Peckham News or something along those lines which covered ED. I remember some of the local shops used to stock it and it was free. It was the sister publication to a Crystal Palace title.
