Why so much traffic on Lordship Lane?

It may be better for people to use Forest Hill station if you live at the Plough end of LL anyway. -
Michael Palaeologus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Question is, when the Southern franchise comes up > for renewal, will Overground bid and so > potentially extend the Underground network at > (relatively) small cost? Currently TfL are interested in two franchises, Southeastern's metro network to Dartford, Sevenoaks and Hayes and Greater Anglia. If they take over those and can prove them to be successful in the future, the DfT may allow the Mayor to run the other franchises within Greater London. The Transport secretary appeared to give his approval to Boris taking over SE and GA when he was interviewed on the BBC and ITV local news last week. If TfL gain Southeastern's metro services, expect it to be rebranded as London Overground and the Victoria to Dartford line to be operational all day and Sundays. eastdulwichhenry Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > @the-e-dealer - are you sure? Until January 2nd that is. As mentioned on this forum before, London Overground are scrapping point to point seasons between Clapham Junction and Queens Road Peckham (with the exception of Denmark Hill to Peckham Rye), although you will be able to still buy seasons to Victoria, London Bridge, Charing Cross etc or if you require a season, you'll have to ask to have it start from South Bermondsey to one of the stations on the line.

Still very quiet on the Clapham Junction trains when I was at Canada Water during the evening rush hour, although they were only running to Wandsworth Road due to a signal fault.

Great if you can't top-up your Oyster card, but they don't give an Oyster cap after a certain amount of journeys, so still best to use Oyster for now.

If any of you have been overcharged as part of the ELL changes, please post on the Oyster and National Rail website, an independent site which has successfully got TfL to change fares in the past. Mike who runs the site is compiling a list of journeys where it's clear passengers have been ripped off by TfL not updating their station price lists. http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/2012/12/pink-route-validator-change/

That fare should be questioned, from Whitechapel to ED, the fare is being charged as a national rail only fare, while the Shoreditch High Street to ED fare has been charged as a TfL/NR premium fare.

Canada Water's ELL platforms were designed for the then short tube line, which would have only carried passengers from New Cross/NXG coming in on the northbound platform. There appears to be no future thinking with the design of the ELL platforms that when the ELL gets it's 5th carriage in 2015, the platforms will remain short. There is another set of escalators at the top of the platform which go up to the ticket hall, but then have access back down to the rear of the Jubilee platforms which can work out faster than waiting with the masses for the single escalator.

Excellent photos.

Dual units which can be used on all lines. However most are 378/1, the DC only units which can only be used on the ELL. Third rail operation is used as far as Shepherd's Bush then changes to overhead rail. There are other reasons too, look at the Circle line, for the last couple of years, it no longer operates in a constant circle, the trains start from Edgware Road do a circuit, then go down to Hammersmith (via the City line) which has improved the service. Segregating the lines enables the train operator to keep delays to a minimum, so if the ELL goes down, it won't affect the other line on the orbital or vice versa.

It's to do with the electrical current the services use, the ELL uses the third rail system (DC) and the trains that run on the West London Line and North London Line use a mix of third rail and overhead power lines (AC). Our trains don't have the pantographs which those trains that run north of Clapham Junction do.

It's one of the reasons why I've become more of an observer than a poster on here. However, it's pandemic with forums across the board, although this forum has always had a rep of being terse with people for asking simple questions. -

I'd expect so, we're in a period where passengers are testing out various routes and figuring out the best way home. We should see how popular the service is after Christmas as there's only two weeks of normal work left until the festive season.

ED will continue it's journey to a Clapham style gentrification with pockets of those who don't have a disposable income on the DKH estate, Dawson Heights and Lordship Lane Estate, although those three estates will see an influx of affluent middle class people with more money than sense buy the leaseholds from those remaining council and housing association tenants who decide to move to the likes of Stoke and Rochdale where the cost of living is cheaper. ED finally gets on the East London line with an extension to Wimbledon replacing the Thameslink Wimbledon loop. The Southwark Rail Users Group go on the final ED to LB service. However the Victoria to London Bridge service is finally re-instated after TfL take over from all rail franchises within London.

Anybody got any thoughts? If you decide to use the Olympia train to Clapham Junction, it's a simple interchange by walking along the same platform to the other end to Platform 2 where the new trains return home. TfL's journey planner shows a 32/34 minute journey from Olympia if you get the 1955 to Clapham Junction which arrives at 2008. The next train leaves at 2014 arriving at Denmark Hill at 2027 and Peckham Rye at 2029.

An affordable French cafe, although there is one on Forest Hill Road. -
The 1707 from Canada Water to Clapham Junction was quiet this evening. There's also the escalators at the top of the platform which go up to the ticket hall which then lead to the main escalator straight to the Jubilee platforms at Canada Water. Can be much faster than waiting for the single one down from the northbound ELL platform during the morning peak.

Christ, it's UDT' on his 200th username on EDF! I'm sure those people who don't frequent EDF to be a smart arse with every post or an expert in pedantry (or trolling) will adjust to the changes in services from Sunday. If not, I'm sure they'll take on board Cllr Barber's concern to sell up in their droves to somewhere where they can get a train into town without an interchange despite other public transport options. Good luck with the change in your journey patterns next week, I hope it isn't too much of a strain to board the existing trains to Victoria or experiment with the interchanges at Clapham High St/North or Junction if travelling to Victoria. -

Take away that link and see if they > like their busses then. At least try and spell buses right. I still think there's similarities considering DH and PR are not in the built up residential areas of Camberwell and Peckham and they do rely on buses. The season ticket withdrawal by LO is scandalous though, they're a national rail Train Operating Company and should sell the cheapest season tickets possible, although it appears as TfL are to be in charge of the SLL from Sunday, they want you to buy their products, alas the more expensive Travelcard. -

There would have been been extra services from DH and PR to Victoria from Kent in the winter timetable during the peak, but it was the pressure from those Kent commuters who pay a lot more for season tickets who put the pressure on the DfT to not allow Southeastern to add two more stations to their fast trains. James, are you seriously saying the reduction of a 2tph rail service for the ELL could lead to residents leaving Camberwell? I don't see a mass exodus of people from Hackney who have just the Overground and a high frequency bus service. -
If we use ED as the area surrounding the Lordship Lane shopping area, I'd say it starts at the top of DKH including those surrounding streets which are in SE15 off Grove Vale up, then up to Peckham Rye Common up to just past the where it then becomes 'Honor Oak' on the Southwark side. East of EE I'd go for Townley Road with LL east of there including the Dulwich Library/Plough shopping area and up to the Wood Vale boundary as being in Dulwich. This distinguishes between the main shopping area of LL and the smaller retail areas at the eastern end.

Whats happened to the Grove/Harvester
Bic Basher replied to spoiltdog's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A shame, although local drinkers down that end of LL seem to prefer going to the Plough or the Wetherspoons owned The Capitol in Forest Hill. Even when it was a Harvester, the pub/bar area was so small and generic that it didn't exactly have a warm feel to the place as the restaurant part was their core revenue earner. -
