Solid reception from a ?10 indoor aerial with no break-up's from the Grove end of LL. I did suffer similar issues before digital switchover, however it's fine now. Your tv or set-top box can also affect reception if you have a poor tuner.

I'll miss the huge reception area in the library with the old school style service you get from the staff who have always been fantastic assisting me over the years. However, I can also see the benefits of self-service for the customers at least, yet when self-service was promoted in Westminster, staff were told at the time that it wouldn't affect their jobs and they did lose posts.

Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
Bic Basher replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sainsburys probably closed as they weren't getting the passing trade from a residential part of ED, although they continue to open until midnight. The Co-Op on the other hand would increase the choice available to local residents and users of the bars and restaurants. I don't live down that part of LL, if the noise particularly on a Friday and Saturday night is already an issue, the opening of a supermarket won't make any difference. I'd support the Co-op's extension to their licence if they put up signs ensuring customers are mindful of local residents with their noise as the pubs currently do and either pick up the rubbish left behind or contribute to the council cleaning their section of the road. -
On the Sunday Politics show, one of the political journalists reported that Labour want Dame Tessa Jowell to run for London Mayor at the next election in preference to Tooting's Sadiq Khan. If this happens, it's very likely that she'll resign her parliamentary seat here, which would lead to a new Labour MP here, although it could become a high-profile seat if Labour put in a name.

My mother went a week ago, in and out within 45 mins after arriving at noon. A couple of years back, she went at 1pm and was seen straight away.

In East London yes, look at how Dalston is now on the map as the new Shoreditch, but FH is still no ED (and nor should it be!). Where are the hoardes of Londoners travelling to visit the must visit shops of Forest Hill and Sydenham? ED despite having poorer transport links in comparison to FH still had an eclectic mix of shops on LL and has character. FH and Sydenham have issues including both main shopping streets on traffic jam ridden streets which disconnect potential visitors. There have been some positives in FH, namely the increased visitors to Horniman Museum and the new swimming pool, yet transport is only part of the regeneration process. You have to build character and must have shops and pubs, whether it's chain stores or independent stores which bring footfall. ED has achieved this without having a tube style rail service and not having major chains such as Boots and WHSmith which FH has. The point still stands that some passengers who use Forest Hill station only visit because it's a commuter hub, by going straight from the station to the bus stop and head back over the hill to ED. Getting those potential customers away from the London Road T shaped area and into Dartmouth Road is the challenge for the new businesses who should move into the shops thanks to Portas.

For a bellweather check, just count the > coffee shops, before and after. Transport connections yes, but there have been empty shop after empty shop on Dartmouth Road AFTER the ELL opened. Portas has helped to bring at least one business, a Bermondsey based butcher on London Road which is set to open later this month amongst numerous pseudo ED style coffee shops, but FH continues to suffer from being a place where people go to get the improved trains from the other end of LL, but not many people spend their money in local independent businesses. However, I see the Forest Hill Society continue to try and improve life in the area for residents, including a regular food fair in the station car park.

If you look at the ELL extension, Dalston has become busier and dare say noisier since passengers could easily travel from south London. A Bakerloo extension even to Peckham Rye Common would bring more people down the road to LL. On the other hand, if you look at the southern extension, there hasn't been any direct benefit to Forest Hill (with the exception of East London school parties to Horniman Museum) or Sydenham with those areas receiving Portas Pilot funding to attract businesses and customers to their retail outlets.

A few weeks ago I encountered a middle aged black passenger on the 197 with an African accent who made racist accusations about white girls who then said "I'm not a racist..." who got off at Barry Road at the Goodrich Road stop. Any similarities?

Thameslink Wimbledon Loop services saved
Bic Basher replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye would lose service > to Thameslink (instead stopping at Blackfriars) > but regain service to Victoria in 2018? Can you > elaborate as its not clearly detailed on the link? The original plan was for four services per hour through DH and PR. As the Loop has been saved, we lose two of those slots to them in the Thameslink Core section. However those two paths can still be used for a direct service to Victoria instead via Bellingham calling at the SLL stations along the route except for Battersea Park. (QRP and South Bermondsey passengers would still have to change at PR regardless). My understanding is the existing 2tph would continue as now through the core section. Thameslink Wimbledon Loop services saved

More on this from the DfT. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-safeguards-future-of-the-wimbledon-loop A possibility is that two of the orginally proposed Thameslink services which would have run via PR and DH will become the SLL alternative to Victoria which would also call at Clapham High Street and Wandsworth Road. -
The Government have decided to keep the through service on the Wimbledon loop which runs via Tulse Hill and Loughborough Junction. This could have implications for the through service via Denmark Hill from 2018 which is proposed to only have 2tph to Sevenoaks as now. http://www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/news/2013/1/passenger_watchdog_welcomes_government_s_decision_to_reverse_plans_to_end_wimbledon_loop_services_in

Currently no trains in either direction from ED station

The live departure board for Peckham Rye is a sight for sore eyes. http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/ldbboard/dep/PMR Overground: "No service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction and between Willesden Junction and Richmond to due to power supply problems caused by snow and ice. MINOR DELAYS between Highbury & Islington and New Cross / West Croydon / Crystal Palace. London Underground is accepting tickets via reasonable routes. GOOD SERVICE on other routes." -
Huggers, it's worth complaining to London Overground at [email protected] I didn't see ONE rail replacement bus in Peckham yesterday connected to the Overground. To give Southern credit, when they ran the SLL buses, they were regular, visible and easy to find.

Nothing on Thames Water's live site, but it does mention this. "Delayed response due to winter weather The snowy and icy conditions are impacting on our ability to travel safely around our region. This is causing delays in responding to emergencies such as sewer flooding and customers experiencing no water. We?re sorry for the delay but it may take longer than normal to reach you. Last updated: 20 January - 6.10pm"

What happened to the possible extension of the 63 bus?

Medley Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Overground in the peaks at HOP is crowded, but > that's a reason to have longer and more trains - > not a reason for people not to have better links > to it. Overground trains from HOP and PR/DH will be extended to 5 cars by 2016. This is likely to help relieve existing capacity issues. -

What happened to the possible extension of the 63 bus?
Bic Basher replied to Evie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This new route could start and serve the spare bus stop at Dog Kennel Hill Sainsburys, which even had a extra bus shelter installed to accommodate the extension of Route 42 from Red Post Hill which was scrapped. This would give passengers the option of travelling to Sainsburys without changing for the 484 at the Kings on the Rye. Route option could be DKH Sainsburys, DKH, East Dulwich Station, Goose Green, Kings on the Rye, Peckham Rye, Forest Hill Road, Honor Oak Park, Brockley Rise. Another option could be to route it via Route P13 which would increase bus frequency along Whateley Road and most of Underhill Road, then run it along Dunstans Road, right into FH Road then as above. -

Bic Basher replied to Evie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Also in agreement for extending the 63 to at least connect with the P12 for those who wish to continue to HOP. However the ideal solution would be for a new single decker route to connect the whole of Forest Hill Road with Honor Oak Park station and Brockley Rise. Otherwise there's still the 16 buses per hour to Peckham Rye which connect with the Overground. -

Route 363 also serves Crystal Palace direct from Forest Hill Road and Wood Vale which negates the need to travel across the hill to the rail station. -

Yes there was, Woolwich was acquired by Barclays and they closed I think it was 08/09 with Woolwich products now being sold at Barclays. William Hill and Haart were all part of Dulwich Jobcentre before they were turned into two separate retail outlets.
