Through my door this morning is the Lib Dem 'Focus' newsletter which includes the words "Your local Lib Dem councillors" has been delivered to my door with news from East Dulwich ward. To my knowledge, College Ward has one Tory and two Labour councillors, so why are the Lib Dems sending out their publications to people who didn't vote for them in 2010?

It appears the local website for our neighbours has gone down.

Living near Lordship Lane estate
Bic Basher replied to Sam Toucan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's fair to say that the LL Estate is not a sink estate. Like all council estates, it's going to be rough at the edges, but it's not your stereotypical inner city one. -

The ELL does open up those links lost when the direct East Croydon services were lost by changing at Clapham Junction, although you'll have to use Peckham Rye or Denmark Hill depending on which is closest. If you're going to Reading, it may be quicker to use the tube to Paddington and going that way instead of the slower SWT service.

Boundary Commission constituency revision for ED
Bic Basher replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Change Camberwell and Peckham for the eastern half of Brixton and that's what you get with the current seat. With Peckham solid Labour, the real campaigning will have to be here where we have Lib Dem and Tory councillors. The revision gives a better chance for Tessa Jowell to keep her job as it would previously have been a fight between her and current Lewisham West MP Jim Dowd for the seat. If we do vote under a new Dulwich and Peckham seat I still think it'll be a Labour hold with a smaller majority for Jowell. -
I use the online service and have always been impressed with the speedy customer service at Peckham Argos, especially if you use the card only Quick Pay tills.

As you may previously are aware, the original proposal was for Dulwich to share a seat with our neighbours in Forest Hill and Sydenham. This has been since revised and the proposal is now for a Southwark only seat called Dulwich and Peckham covering all of the wards in SE21 and SE22 alongside The Lane, South Camberwell, Nunhead, Brunswick Park and Peckham wards. http://assets.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk/proposals/115%20South%20Thames/Dulwich%20and%20Peckham%20BC.pdf

It's also a tactic to stop passengers applying for delay repay compensation for being 'delayed'

Living near Lordship Lane estate

It's mainly quiet on the estate, but it does suffer from some anti-social behaviour issues, particularly in the summer. However I wouldn't let that put you off buying near the estate at all. -
A reliable train between 0815 and 0830 would be nice

This is to protect London Overground from paying delay fines.

It also looks like trains will be more evenly spaced during the off-peak from ED with trains running every 14-16 mins. The revision of train services from ED is due to the East London Line extension which opens on December 9th. -
Depending on where in ED you live, an indoor aerial should be fine. I use them on the two tv sets and for the Freeview USB stick on my desktop and receive all channels.

Re: Freeview - How Many Channels in East Dulwich
Bic Basher replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The aerial shouldn't be an issue Brian, all aerials installed in ED are of the same type before digital switchover. The most important thing is having the right equipment to convert the HD signal such as your ?40 HD box. Some parts of the country have required a new aerial as the 'group' they were in changed before switchover, but we in the London region didn't have that issue. Also you won't benefit from the HD picture if you're connecting your tv using the Scart lead, it has to be via HDMI, which means older televisions (the ones with a bulky back known as CRT's) can't decode the HD element. -

Hi Sue, Apologies, the term I used is for tv sets which only receive standard definition services. That's the vast majority of TV channels on the Freeview platform. If your set can receive HD channels, they'll be between channels 50 to 54 (BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD and C4 HD). Normal sets or boxes won't pick up those channels. Another suggestion for removing the channels from the 800s is instead of starting from scratch with an automatic retune which would pick up those channels from a neighbouring area, you can manually tune those frequencies that are from the Crystal Palace transmitter. This can be done by going into your menu and selecting the manual tuning option, then type in 23 for the BBC channels, 26 for ITV1/C4/C5 group, 25 for the group of channels that includes ITV3, 22 which includes Pick TV and Challenge, 28 for channels including 4seven and 4 Music and if you have HD type in 30. -

If you have BBC channels in the normal place and in the 800s, that's an indication that those are from a neighbouring tv region. It might be worth doing another 'First Time Installation' which will wipe your channel list and start from scratch. The full list of Freeview channels is on Wikipedia. Also worth noting if your TV is HD ready, it won't show the HD channels if tuning from your tv. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_digital_terrestrial_television_channels_(UK) -
It's getting harder to find DVD's on the high street. Most of my non online DVD purchases are from HMV or Sainsburys. In Peckham, it appears the only places you can purchase new DVD's are Morrisons, Asda and WHSmith, while ED has Sainsburys.

I picked up all three series of French cop drama Spiral for ?20 recently. Great drama.

Is anyone also getting a neighbouring region? If for example you find that you're not getting London news on BBC1 or ITV, it could mean that you're getting it from another transmitter further away than Crystal Palace. As for me, I use an indoor aerial and get all the Freeview channels except HD. -
Campaign for New Routemaster Buses on E Dulwich routes

I wonder if the residents of the LL/Friern Road junction would like those buses back? The amount of times I used to see the 40's getting stuck along there thanks to those bendies. -
Campaign for New Routemaster Buses on E Dulwich routes
Bic Basher replied to Jakido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
176 or the 12 personally, although some of the buses used on the 185 are at least 10 years old as they were around from the London Easylink era of operation (They did briefly dissapear when Easylink went bust and every bus company in London including Arriva's sightseeing operation covered the route until East Thames Buses took over) and now running out of Go-Ahead/London Central's Camberwell garage. -
Looks like some people have been smoking some of the Threshers SE22 super skunk.

My phone is on Virgin which uses both T-Mobile and Orange for data and calls and switches between the two networks, however I couldn't get a data connection at all on LL between Goose Green and the police station this afternoon.

Touch 2 Jewellery in Rye Lane is also excellent.
