What happened to the possible extension of the 63 bus?
Bic Basher replied to Evie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
> > Why is the frequency in the ?core? section more > important than it is here? Surely the answer to > bad reliability on the whole route is to put on > more buses on the whole route. The core section is between Kings Cross and Peckham Rye. In particular, it's important to keep a regular service especially between Old Kent Road Tesco and Peckham Post Office (North Peckham Estate area) where the 63 is the main route into central London. Where as between Peckham Rye and Honor Oak, sees the least amount of passenger usage. Forest Hill Road is also served by an additional 6 buses per hour on route 363 which connect with Peckham Rye station (part of London Overground from December) and Elephant and Castle. Also, Honor Oak Park station is in Zone 3, where as Peckham Rye is in Zone 2, which is cheaper for regular travelcard users. To make it clear, I'd like to see Forest Hill Road conencted with HOP station, but not at the expense of a poorer service on the 63, which seems to be a simplistic solution to a difficult issue. Ideally a single decker route would run between Peckham and Brockley Rise, but I can't see TfL having such a short route viable. -
What happened to the possible extension of the 63 bus?

No expensive new infrastructure would > be needed. So you'd expect a driver not to have a break after driving from Kings Cross, probably stuck in traffic along the route, then go back up there (or back to Peckham for a driver changeover)? The 63 under it's current route will soon have a revised timetable in an attempt to improve it's reliability. If extended to Brockley Rise, expect more short runs to Peckham Rye and the current terminus to keep the service running along the core section of the route, which would lead to long waits between services at HOP just to get over to Forest Hill Road. -

While I'm pleased Labour are behind the 63 extension, before this could happen, it's important that the local infrastructure can cope. This simply wouldn't be the case at Brockley Rise where the P12 and 172 currently terminate. You could remove a route, such as the P12 and termiante it at the current 63 terminus, yet then the residents north of Brenchley Gardens would lose their direct connection to HOP station. A more praticial solution where possibly the P12 could run along Forest Hill Road after serving Nunhead and the council estate to the north of the cemetary and not Brenchley Gardens may be a better solution. Incidentally 63/363 passengers will be able to connect with the Overground from December once the new ELL extension opens serving Peckham Rye. -
I've discovered Ofcom's Base Station Sitefinder site. This shows all current mobile transmitters in the area and confirms that 3 and T-Mobile are sharing in ED which has improved reception. http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/search

Lordship Lane area postal service
Bic Basher replied to madger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The postman seems to change every couple of months on the Lordship Lane Estate. We had an excellent service up to the end of Christmas and now get mid-afternoon deliveries (when post eventually arrives!) from a newbie who's still learning the round by the look of it. -
The driver may have misread the diversion sign on Rye Lane where the diversion along the one way system and Clayton Road is only from 8pm tomorrow.

Until 2009, it was barely usable with only one bar of reception, since the agreement with Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile/Orange) to use their base stations the reception is so much better. I now get 4-5 bars on my dongle and get faster data speeds.

From what's being reported in transport circles, only the Victoria, Central and Hammersmith and City lines will operate within Zone 1. Lines which are of most use to us in ED, such as the Northern, Bakerloo and Jubilee will be curtailed, the latter only open in NW London.

The DLR is open on Boxing Day, however no service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay due to planned engineering works. For the rest of us, the buses are running a Sunday service from 0830, Southern, Southeastern and London Overground are shut. ASLEF are the only union on strike, so there will be some form of a tube service too, but don't expect the full network to be open.

Where have the bus ticket machines gone?
Bic Basher replied to pez's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They became even more pointless when TfL axed the paper one day bus pass you could also buy from the machine. This was replaced by the bus cap on Oyster pay as you go. -

I rode my first hybrid 12 today up to Peckham. Had a bit of a shock when it becomes electric powered and the diesel engine cuts out at the bus stops!

Anyone able to pick up Freeview HD channels?
Bic Basher replied to Keats's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Did the TV specifically state that it can receive the HD signal directly? It may be 'HD Ready' which means you'll need a Freeview HD box connected to the HDMI slot in the back, which decodes the HD signal to your tv, but not using your tv tuner. -

At most I saw 10 people on the 12 while in Peckham today, with at least 3 buses parked up in Friern Road/LL. At the end of Rye Lane by Poundland, paying passengers were still getting on, yet still plenty of room upstairs, however as mentioned above, the real test will be tomorrow morning's rushhour.

Route 12 might actually bring in revenue for TfL instead of being the 'free bus' it's become known as since the Routemasters were axed.

There are less buses on the 453 outside peak hours now. http://853blog.com/2011/10/06/all-bent-up-bendy-bus-cuts-put-pressure-on-the-53/

Police helicopters over camberwell cemetery? (Shooting)
Bic Basher replied to Toxtoth's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I went past at 2.50. A mass of people were leaving Camberwell Old Cemetery with some people loitering outside by the 63 bus stand and others going down towards the shops. -
Are there any plans for the 12 to return to the previous parking arrangements on Etherow Street alongside Route 40 or are the current bus stands in Friern Road and Lordship Lane staying?

Getting to Westfield Stratford

I wouldn't bother as for the majority of the day, it requires a change at Canary Wharf for the Stratford service. Was at Westfield Stratford for the second time today. As others have mentioned, the Overground from FH/HOP is the quickest way from ED to get there on public transport and only ?1.30 (?1.40 peak) single on Oyster. -
Asda while clearly an improvement on Netto was rather disappointing when I went in there earlier. Only three tills with one long queue right down the store, no bakery (which I was genuinely shocked about) and a cramped kiosk and self-service checkout area. On the other hand, excellent customer service from the staff who even helped self service customers pack to speed up the queues and plenty of ?1 products.

Would Wood Vale require cross-borough agreement to put it in a 20mph zone?

tommy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Lidl, Iceland, and Morrisons are all v near as > well though I wouldn't consider Morrisons to be 'bargain basement' unlike Lidl or Netto which Asda is replacing. Iceland are cheap but are restricted by their range which is considerably less than all the other supermarkets. Morrisons will still be the dominant supermarket in Peckham, although Asda could make Tesco Express reduce their prices as the competition increases down that end of the Lane.

Netto closed last weekend and will be replaced by Asda's new 'Supermarket' brand on October 4th. This leaves Aldi with the budget market on Bellenden Road. http://storelocator.asda.com/#!/store/peckham
