  1. Hello VBC My reason for posing the question is very much centred on my heavily used Domestic Goddess by Nigella. I am not sure about which vegan margs I have tried - but I have tried a few. The other problem with marg is...well....it's not that good for you really. I notice however, that carrot cake always seems to be made with oil rather than butter.
  2. Hi all, This may well be a v stupid question as I am not very clued up on science, but anyway.... If I wanted to make a cake recipe vegan, could I just convert the butter requirement in grammes, to veg oil (in mls). I appreciate that I could probably use vegan margarine, but I really don't like the taste.
  3. HonaloochhieB, Regarding Silver X prams - I saw a woman with one yesterday in SMBS of all places.
  4. I have just had ANOTHER bag through the door for Friday - a charity. Now clearly the non-charity organisation knows that one of the other charities has scheduled a collection. This is by no means the first time I have had 3 bags for the same date. Grrrr.
  5. Hi everyone I don't know why it is, (don't say poisson distribution effect), but nearly every time I get a charity bag through the door, designating a specific day for collection, within the hour, I will then get ANOTHER bag from someone else for collection on the same day. Today it is evergreen trust who are indeed a charity, and looking for lots of stuff, and also another COMPANY (not a charity) looking for stuff. Now, I have got some stuff for the charity, but how do i prevent the other people from nabbing the bag? Suggestions/thoughts?
  6. Good to hear you had a bit of a workout. Think you're gonna have to come up with a few bells and whistles for next year. Given that next years bash is in Longford you'll probably be in the local papers for weeks.
  7. Well Declan, Dare I ask? How did you fare in the feis?
  8. Speaking of Neil Kinnock... My friend Patricia was working as a receptionist for the Northern Ireland parliament, and on her first day Neil Kinnock rang up to speak to someone, and poor old Pat got a bit flustered and managed to cut him off. Anyway he rang back and gave her a right earful for cocking things up, and she then burst into tears, saying "I'm so sorry, its my first day...yadda yadda." NK then realised what a tit he'd been, apologised profusely, signing off with "It's just my way, see!"
  9. Mr Wee Quinnie has just been chatting to our 83 yr old next door neighbour, and said to her in a patronising way: "We saw Lily Allen up in town a coupla nights back. Do you know who she is..." To which our neighbour shot back with "Pink or brunette?". Then proceeded to fill MR WQ in on the latest news on Madonna getting divorced etc., etc....
  10. why anyone decided that Tim Henman would be a good commentator for Wimbledon... dear oh dear...
  11. Dare we ask...which one of the dwarves are you, Declan? Hmmm?
  12. Free books box? How can I have missed this? I will be heading down there at top speed.

  14. OMG - finally a totally new person seen in ED! Is this allowed on the celeb thread? She is good - but I prefer the bloke alongside her, Tim somebody. But no one is as fab as Mr Jon Ronson. Much missed.
  15. Noticed a lot of cops in North X Rd this morning, and H&G was cordoned off. Anyone know what was going on?
  16. No vouchers in Upland Rd yet...

  18. I am quite keen on Majestic - since they don't charge for delivery, they seem friendly, and I havent had a duff bottle yet. Although recently I ordered a case of English wine from Chapel Down and that was v good - esp the Reserve.
  19. Boris* spotted in the crowd at one of the Euro 2008 matches, Germany of course. *Becker
  20. Will we be allowed over the threshold without a buggy?
  21. The English (or European, really) magpies ARE different! The Australian magpie is more like the European crow. Dullwitch - why do you think the dead robins were killed by the magpies?
  22. I like Cheners. Good points: Interesting selection of books on the table. And: Not difficult to get round like the shop in the Village - (always jammers in there, as a result of huge piles of books being re-stocked) and not much room for manouevering).
  23. Was Bullseye also called Bully, or am I straying into Jim Bowen territory here?
  24. Note - i am back after a bit of an absence...this is because I am now revising for my OU exam. Expect more inane remarks soon.

I am sure The Clockhouse used to do that as well - don't know if they still do.
