Can I ask why? Just interested if it's some legal rebranding reason, or just because you don't like it.

Personally, I think if you name it something cool, then great. If however, it was a choice of Uplands, or Villager, I'd go with Uplands every single time!

Moving with the times and all that....why not The Forum (are English pubs named after popular local things that reflect the history/community?) :)-D

Or ...as others said, name it after the fabulous Wodehouse?

Or ...the Blyton (as long as its child-friendly and serves lashings of ginger ale)...

Very best of luck, whatever it turns out to be. Its nearby so I am sure I will pop along to try it out.

The current license of The Uplands does NOT allow it to open to midnight Sun-Thurs and 1am Fri & Sat; permitted hours are until 11.30 pm Sun- Thurs and to 12pm Fri and Sat. Bit surprising you don't know that. As for complaints, who is going to complain on Lordship Lane, which is busy with traffic, people and bars/restaurants? CP Road, however, is a residential street, so noise stands out more and carries much further.

I thought the license meant they can serve until 11:30pm? Add the 20 minutes drinking up time and 10 minutes to get out that makes midnight. Or am I wrong?

What about "Louisa's" or "The Snorky"

Moes.

That's what this pretentious area needs,

a swill hole where you can fall asleep on the upholstered pew and no one moves you on.

Squares of newspaper hanging on a loop of hairy string in the loo....er apologies, bog.

A big smelly old dog curled up dozing under the seat.

A hooped barrell with a wooden tap, perched behind the bar full of Marstons pedigree,

and when it's poured into the pint glass resembling the colour of healthy looking urine.

They don't make 'em like that anymore, the pub culture is a receding industry,

yet it is what many euro-visitors dropped in for as they have nothing like it and sooner or later nor will we.

I'm not at all keen on 'The Actress'.

It sounds quite pretentious and a bit, well, crap.

    • They are. We are back to the same construction racket 8am-8pm every day for the whole of this week. The wall is one of the last things to come down, probably on Saturday. Then we can see how much of a mess they've made, especially the quantity of non-biodegradeable litter trampled into the earth. GALA 2025 - Production Schedule.pdf
