They also had kennedys deli which I loved, but that has sadly closed down now, i'd love them to come to LL...

Beckenham is a bizarre place, it has a Waitrose M&S and sainsburys all within less than half a mile of each other, along with an Odeon cinema a lidls food shop and a number of annoying chain pubs full of so called 'chavs'. Bizarre place, it even has a tory mp! It all confuses me..

cheap German Goods? oh God. Do they sell Blue Nun and Black Tower?

What about the Co-Operative bank? ED is big on the Co-op. Funeral parlour, co-op supermarket. I want the bank. That would mean I wouldn't have to endure the trawl out to bloody Lewisham to get to my nearest branch.

I was going to contact karter privately about an exciting business opportunity, but a sense of public service and the need to share overwhelmed me.

The Woolwich premises are large enough for a 24/7 East Dulwich Babe 'n' Buggy Compound. Just like those multi-stacking garages in NYC. Deposit children and/or buggies on demand and pay by the hour with a discount for overnight storage.

Want to go shopping, have a meal, or go for a drink? Dump that child.

Partner away on a business trip and need privacy? Dump that child overnight.

It could be a money machine.

the co-op supermarket (if it can be called that) are selling their own version of the much loved jute/cloth bag now, along with all the others in ED. I forget what my point is, if indeed there is a point....um

Well the co-op bank yes please, and the baby storage place, also sounds like winner.

Baby storage sounds tops. Just drug them up for the necessary period of tme, tube-feed them with an automated system and find some way of dealing with the waste products. It could eventually become a vast toddler warehouse resembling the Matrix! Best of all - noise-free!

Not a Rat & Parrot either, anymore anyway - it changes to a (spit) Zizzi pizza joint a couple of years back

When it was the Rat & Parrot I met George Underwood there - he was the guy who punched Bowie and caused the operation at Kings College hospital which led to the permanently dilated pupil. He did the cover to Hunky Dory too

I spoke to the cashier at Barclays today and he told me that the vast majority of former Woolwich branches would remain and be re-branded as Barclays, the only ones going would be those situated close to a current branch of Barclays which would not be needed any longer. When I asked him about the retail space he looked across to a colleague who I recognised as a former Woolwich employee, and she said that a number of ideas had been kicking around for well over a year, and that speculation was that a shoe shop called 'Blue Velvet' had been discussing the lease on the unit. Anyone know anything about them? Are they an indepedent shoe shop?

Not a duplicate post, my mistake.

    • A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
    • It's Inner London. You could move somewhere else?
    • They are people.  That's how people often behave.
    • Same reason there are several pizza places and Indian restaurants?
