Louisa
They also had kennedys deli which I loved, but that has sadly closed down now, i'd love them to come to LL...Beckenham is a bizarre place, it has a Waitrose M&S and sainsburys all within less than half a mile of each other, along with an Odeon cinema a lidls food shop and a number of annoying chain pubs full of so called 'chavs'. Bizarre place, it even has a tory mp! It all confuses me.. Keef
I quite like Lidl too, with the exception of having to queue up for so long!!!!! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1011-the-woolwich-bank-closing/page/2/#findComment-25968 Share on other sites
James
Beckenham is pure arriviste territory. Chavs with a thin veneer of nouveau respectability. Kate Lawler hails from there... go figure. citizenED
OK, so in the place vacated by Woolwich, we should open an actual branch of the Quiet Room.citizen Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1011-the-woolwich-bank-closing/page/2/#findComment-25977 Share on other sites

Domitianus
I think we need another music shop. After all, we only have two in ED at the mment and thee is clearly an insatiable desire for tin-whistles, viola strings and metronomes. MadWorld74
cheap German Goods? oh God. Do they sell Blue Nun and Black Tower? What about the Co-Operative bank? ED is big on the Co-op. Funeral parlour, co-op supermarket. I want the bank. That would mean I wouldn't have to endure the trawl out to bloody Lewisham to get to my nearest branch. Domitianus
FUNERAL PARLOURS!!! Good thinking. I think we need another one of those. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1011-the-woolwich-bank-closing/page/2/#findComment-25998 Share on other sites
Keef
Madworld, Mrs Keef would definitely agree about the co-op bank, but it would seem they're closing branches rather then opening. macroban
I was going to contact karter privately about an exciting business opportunity, but a sense of public service and the need to share overwhelmed me.The Woolwich premises are large enough for a 24/7 East Dulwich Babe 'n' Buggy Compound. Just like those multi-stacking garages in NYC. Deposit children and/or buggies on demand and pay by the hour with a discount for overnight storage.Want to go shopping, have a meal, or go for a drink? Dump that child.Partner away on a business trip and need privacy? Dump that child overnight. It could be a money machine. MadWorld74
the co-op supermarket (if it can be called that) are selling their own version of the much loved jute/cloth bag now, along with all the others in ED. I forget what my point is, if indeed there is a point....umWell the co-op bank yes please, and the baby storage place, also sounds like winner. Domitianus
Baby storage sounds tops. Just drug them up for the necessary period of tme, tube-feed them with an automated system and find some way of dealing with the waste products. It could eventually become a vast toddler warehouse resembling the Matrix! Best of all - noise-free! jim_the_chin
macroban, i had a similar idea a few years ago - a baby 'hotel' where the little dahlings could stay for a few hours or overnight whilst the parents pretended they were normal again. sort of like a cattery, only without the cages. or with in some cases. SeanMacGabhann
Not a Rat & Parrot either, anymore anyway - it changes to a (spit) Zizzi pizza joint a couple of years backWhen it was the Rat & Parrot I met George Underwood there - he was the guy who punched Bowie and caused the operation at Kings College hospital which led to the permanently dilated pupil. He did the cover to Hunky Dory too Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1011-the-woolwich-bank-closing/page/2/#findComment-26090 Share on other sites

ghostlymaiden
I spoke to the cashier at Barclays today and he told me that the vast majority of former Woolwich branches would remain and be re-branded as Barclays, the only ones going would be those situated close to a current branch of Barclays which would not be needed any longer. When I asked him about the retail space he looked across to a colleague who I recognised as a former Woolwich employee, and she said that a number of ideas had been kicking around for well over a year, and that speculation was that a shoe shop called 'Blue Velvet' had been discussing the lease on the unit. Anyone know anything about them? Are they an indepedent shoe shop? Not a duplicate post, my mistake.
