The playground is in The Lane ward and from memory has had a couple of lots of 'Cleaner, Greener and Safer' money from Nunhead and Peckham Rye Community Council. I think it was Friends of Goose Green that made the bids for the money. I don't know if there is a 'Friend' on the forum who might be able to tell us a bit more?

Interesting question on whether play equipment can be reused or recycling in some way... will try to do a bit of investigation..

The playground is being rebuilt after receiving planning permission earlier this year.

I believe this is largely funded by Southwark Council using central government funding to improve playgrounds but along more naturalistic lines. So kids get mounds, grass, tunnels, etc. Naturalistic playgrounds are thought to promote more adventure and imagination. That this funding tipped up with Community Concil CGS funding.

When I was asked about playground priorities in East Dulwich ward I suggested the ones at Goose Green, Dulwich Park and Pekcham Rye Parks.

Just to clarify the funding situation for the current works being carried out at the Goose Green Playground:

The Friends of Goose Green (FoGG) submitted Cleaner Greener Safer applications to South Camberwell, Nunhead & Peckham Rye (N&PR), and Dulwich Community Councils, for funding towards the cost of upgrading the playground. The only Community Council that responded to us was N&PR. With the CGS funding we have received, together with a successful application to the Government's Playbuilder scheme, and also our application to the Lottery's Community Spaces scheme, FoGG has been able to secure sufficient funds to rebuild the playground so that it is fit for the community's young people, in the 21st century.

The project has been, and continues to be, driven by the Friends of Goose Green. The plans for the works have been posted in each of the notice boards on the Green.

It is also worth noting that the equipment being replaced is no longer supported by their manufacturers.

Somebody from Friends of Goose Green was at Community Council meeting last night to talk about all the work done. The stuff going on looks and sounds great and I was certainly convinced that this was a great use of 'cleaner, greener, safer' money (as well as the other funding sources too).

Sounded like the work on the current phase should be finished pretty soon.

    • You literally just edited your earlier reply to remove the point you made about it being “politicians”.  Then you call me pathetic.    I’m  not trying to say you approve any of the ugly right wing nonsense.  But I AM Saying your earlier post suggesting  violent rhetoric being “left wing” was one-sided and incorrect
    • I never said that. Saying I don’t like some of the rhetoric coming from the left doesn’t mean I approve of Farage et al saying that Afghans being brought here to protect their lives and thank them for their service means there is an incalculable threat to women.    Anything to score a cheap point. It’s pretty pathetic.
    • To be fair we are as hosed as the majority of other countries post-Covid. The problem is Labour promised way too much and leant in on the we need change and we will deliver it and it was clear to anyone with a modicum of sense that no change was going to happen quickly and actually taking the reigns may have been a massive poison- chalice. As Labour are finding to their cost - there are no easy answers.  A wealth tax seems straightforward but look how Labour have U-turned on elements of non-dom - why? Because the super rich started leaving the country in their droves and whilst we all may want them to pay more tax they already pay a big chunk already and the government saw there was a problem.
    • You don’t think there are right-wing politicians fanning this with rhetoric? Really?
