What has become of the EDF?

Regarding cliques, I think there definitely were some. Not in a nasty, and exclusive way though.

Basically, I am sure my name would be included in what some have described as the forum clique. I never wanted it to be that way, but the forum had it's time for me, when there were lots of posts in the Lounge from the lies of Moos, *bob*, me, Mockney, Sean, MikeP, Huguenot, Georgia, PollyD, Citizen, RosieH, Jah, Tillie, Chav(as was then), Quids, AnnaJ, Bignumber5, and even the likes of TLS.

Later, a load of other people joined, like MickMac, LadyMuck, Woof, BBW, charliecharlie and so on joined in. For me, I had already met some lovely new friends, plus had the baby turning up, so I withdrew from the drinks a lot, and just don't bother posting so much (although I still read). It's nothing against any poster on here, I simply feel that I had my time on here, and there is a "new class" in here now, that I don't really feel so much a part of. A lot of the major postrs these days will have never met me at a drinks, whereas I used to be at most of them.

Regarding the Drawing Room, I'm with Quids. There are some good threads, but there is a bit of a trying to hard, back slapping thing going on in there. I agree that some of those threads would have been great in the Lounge, and I also suspect that a few more people may have read the party political threads (I never bothered).

Family Room can b great fun, although they can be scary in there too!

Sorry PGC, of course you and others, like Brendan should have been in that list. My point was, that most cliques don't set out to be cliques, but to a new poster, it must have come across as closeknit, and possibly scary.

Well I for one am sad that you feel that way...what makes you so sure we wouldn't have got on? And as for a "new class", what do you mean by this?

No offence caused...just think it's a little sad that's all.

Without wishing to cause any offence, is there possibly a culture clash here? The 'originals' mostly appear to be university graduates well versed in sophisticated levels of discourse with a finely tuned sense of humour involving clever satire and irony whereas the newbies tend to hail from the hoi polloi side of the tracks?

...do you mean those who went to 'Polytechnics'?

In Keef's defense..

* does karate kid move *

...he is somewhat "tied up with other things " at the moment & by some of his previous posts, he gnaws the bars at times. Like all new parents, he's also ( from my experience ) breaking new ground in his life

So proportionately he's sooooooo "flinnkin" busy & loved up, that the forum & it's drinks ( rightly so ) have taken a back seat

Mockers is in the same boat too ( IMHO )

With that in mind, it's up to us to trash the common room

"Wurthers original anyone...? "

* oooo sugar rush *

W**F

* taps inside of screen, waves at keef & mockers " yeah, hellllllooo...it's me woof " *

University? College? Polytechnics?

All above me mate. Left school at 16

i was slightly scared of established forumites when I went to my first drinks. I say slightly. I mean very. I could have bottled it and called them a clique. But that sort of thinking is just lame. I went along and met some ace people. Some of them had been to uni and were confident. Some didn't and weren't and vice versa. If in doubt, grow a pair

As recently as this year I've met the likes of daizie and ladymuck and had some cracking nights with them. I have also clashed with them on here. Quids I have had some major run ins with.. Still do in fact. I kinda love him tho

the word clique brings me out in a rash. There are people I like and a small number of people I actively dislike. I doubt that is unusual tho.

Plus ...

They ( the old lot ) posted whilst being paid by others ( no wonder the county is in the mess it is )

Now ar5es are on the line, it's all dried up & they have to produce something to justify their positions ( boo hoo )

It's US self employed that can afford to "flim flam" ( & claim it back on our tax return ) on here at our leisure

Long may it rule......

Become? Has?

What?

The EDF is just the same old place it's been for years.

I liken the EDF to The Kinks' song 'Days'. It has a lovely melody and at the same time is lyrically banal but still manages to draw the listener in.*

I mean, look at us, are we not all still glancing at each other with amorous intent from underneath floppy fringes? Figuratively speaking?

If we're not, shouldn't we be?

I mean, SHOULDN'T WE BE?

The Drawing Room is fine and dandy. Apparently. I don't visit it.

I treat it the same as Catford in that respect.

*Which Kinks song reminds YOU of the EDF?

There's a 'Lola' styled cherry-cola for the best answer.

Thank you for the days,

Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me.

I'm thinking of the days,

I won't forget a single day, believe me.

I bless the light,

I bless the light that lights on you believe me.

And though you're gone,

You're with me every single day, believe me.

Days I'll remember all my life,

Days when you can't see wrong from right.

You took my life,

But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me,

But it's all right,

Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me.

I wish today could be tomorrow,

The night is dark,

It just brings sorrow anyway.

Thank you for the days,

Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me.

I'm thinking of the days,

I won't forget a single day, believe me.

Days.

I bless the light that shines on you believe me.

And though you're gone,

You're with me every single day, believe me.

Days.

There was that one time, but he attempted to kiss me.

Whilst as the good Danny Baker would put it, 'all my doors are open' and this is as some would put it

'2010', I curtailed his intercourse and we instead indulged in a bout of manly shoulder-chucking.

Hearty laughter ensued. A little too hearty perhaps.

After an interval Big Bad Wolf was born.

    • Back to the good things about cycling - social rides organised by Southwark Cyclists, wonderful, always posted on the events page
    • I only go there about every couple of months now (to put my flimsy plastic in the recyling bins). What a dismal, grubby experience it has become! I don't go to Sainsburys Forest Hill either because of their requirement to have me download a parking app on my phone. Luckily we have many supermarket choices nearby and I find Waitrose deliveries, Sainsburys Local on foot, Lidl and Aldi cover it all.
    • I've started going to Morrisons in Peckham and have been pleasantly surprised at their range of products. Shopping in Sainsburys  DKH is such as trial now, no staff, inconvenient malfunctioning machines and a general feeling that customers can go and take  running jump.
