The only reason I can see for playing 'I've had the time of my life' at your funeral is if you're going to get a Patrick Swayze-alike to do that lift with the coffin and carry it out to the applause of the mourners. I can't quite see this working for my corpse, though, unless I die from a really bad wasting disease or the lifter is more Capes than Swayze.

What about the mighty

?

Oh my God, that's one of my all time fave songs!!!! Slightly concerned now that I'm planning to play it at my wedding as opposed to funeral :-S

Going back to Rage against the machine, I wander if anyone's ever been shot, and had "Bullet in your head" played... That's what I want if I should meet my maker at the hands of a gunman >:D<

If I may add what was actually played at my Fathers funeral a few years ago, we managed to get the crem people to allow us a good old fashioned Jazz Funeral, with a Humanist service (much less depressing I have to say then some priest / rabbi / stranger spouting off about the person he/she/it didn't know)

I was lucky (??) enough to speak for the the last 10 minuts of the service and we got them to pump the Jazz funeral music from the Bond film "Dr No" over the pa system whilst I pressed the button to lower the coffin. It was interesting to see peoples reactions as his coffin vanished from view just as the slow bit finished and the fast bit of muisc started.

He actually requested that piece of music many years ago and I have to say, I would too as it was quite a magical moment and lifted a lot of peoples spirits ... (I promise you we didn't toast him until after he was toasted himself)

Got to say - it was one of the more lively funerals I have been to, jazz playing in the background and everyone randomly standing up and telling good stories about him (it was one of the things we asked people to do and it worked well)

My dad passed away last year and we had The Dubliners doing The Wild Rover for him, on CD I hasten to add. It was a song he loved to sing and was more or less his theme tune. I got everyone to sing it in the pub afterwards as well with yours truly leading from the front. We celebrated his life not his death and everyone had a good time. It's what he would have wanted.

    • I think we're probably closest - about 50m from one of the tents - and to be honest it's not that bad. The bass is making the windows vibrate but it's not 'noisy' I've always said the loud music is the least of the issues to me. It's the construction for two weeks before / one week after, the imposing steel wall, the trodden in non-decomposing litter (fag butts, cable ties, vapes, bottle tops, ring pulls) which will cover the entire site forever, the compaction & damage to the grass which takes months to recover, the impact on birds, bats & wildlife of 24/7 lights, the anti social behaviour of so many attendees (p***ing on the streets and in the bushes) and this year the blatant extending of the site footprint, despite previously giving the reason they can't move it is because it's been designed for that location. And hopefully everyone can see this for what it really is - an attempt to win over the local community and set a precedent for four festival days, so that they have a stronger argument when they put in an application for six days again next year.  Southwark state that the money from Gala goes directly to supporting their Events dept, who support "up to 100 free events every year". So what are these free events, and why do we need another?
