Hey, am I late with this? But Stringer and Mculty arent the only Brits. Mayor Carcetti is also a son of Albion. He was the main dude in that show from a few years back, Queer as Folk. Just found that out at a dinner party I just returned from (hence weird time of slightly drunken post).

PGC - I don't know if this helps, but I went back to what I worte at the start of this thread and I think it might address some of your concerns

Now I KNOW it's just a TV show and I would normally not bother starting a thread on it

But then again it isn't just a TV show. It isn't even what it looks like it is ("what... some kind of US cop show with lot's of drug dealers and I can't understand what anyone is saying") - yes it looks like that but if you still think that after series 1 then you have been watching something else

I like my entertainment. Heroes, for example, is keping me royally amused at the moment.

But The Wire is simply Not. Like. Any. Thing. Else

Someone once said that having seen it, watching The Sopranos was like watching The Waltons

The other downside is that some people think "Oh if you like The Wire you will like..... [insert some other show here - The Shield is a common one]" - which is nice of them but never right

It's not episodic. Each series is like one big show. Comparing the show to a novel has been overdone but no less accurate for that.

Many people will not make it past episode 2 at best. Having heard so much about it, it won't have sunk in yet and it will be dismissed as "meh"

You will see characters you ignored, or despised, or loved all become so darn personal to you, you will wonder why other shows can't do this

You will get to THAT scene in episode 4, series 1 and a) laugh b) realise why this is different

It isn't about good guys or bad guys it's about all of us and the systems we have to operate in, be it in our personal lives or our work lives. And how no matter how bad things get, changing them is nigh on impossible (bleak message - funny show. A bit like life I guess)

Started watching this after reading comments on here Fx channel Monday nights. Was very funny this week when they are in kitchen looking at bullet lines and say nothing apart from Mother F**ker or just F#*k 2 mins of per class made me smile all Tuesday just thinking about it. Glad I have 5 seasons to get through. Thanks for tip about this

    • I believe there is a minor injuries department at Guys, though I may have misremembered. Not very convenient for SE22 now the 40 no longer goes near. You have to get 2 buses or a train. Charging people (not sure if you mean financially or legally) would waste a lot more time, I would have thought? And  a bad bruise could be serious, depending on the cause and possibly other symptoms.
    • Good news - parliamentary debate scheduled for 19 January! Dear  Parliament is going to debate the petition you signed – “Limit the sale of fireworks to those running local council approved events only”. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559 The debate is scheduled for 19 January 2026. Once the debate has happened, we’ll email you a video and transcript. Thanks, The Petitions Team House of Commons
    • Hey all, A month ago 2 black youths in ski masks/balaclavas on an electric bike tried to rob me where the old Poundland was on Lordship Lane. Last night, what seemed like the same two people tried to rob a Deliveroo driver by The Great Exhibition pub while I walked past. The driver swerved and nearly crashed, and they made off. Not sure what can actually be done about this, and if any residents have spoken to police. I can only implore people not to walk around with noise-cancelling headphones on..because sadly, you will get robbed.
