Was with Anna at Somerset House last night, and The Zutons were wicked! I didn't know many of their songs, and often at gigs like that I am looking at my watch thinking "get on with playing the hit so I can go home". However, last night I was really impressed, and enjoyed nearly all the songs!

The sax player is fit too >:D<

"Valerie" was awesome, and it is still the best version!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"You will you won't" to finish was great.

Cheers for the ticket Anna, I owe you several drinks! :)-D

LOL..Some things do i.r.o the "68" though!...East Lane Market to Crystal Palace FC=2 shillings 6 pence i.e 12 pence!

Used to leave 5 minutes from the end and pray a Bus would come.If not 20,000 would all be walking in front of the route (or so it seemed!) and I would still be there 1 hour later as more than 40 people(Max) would have walked to the previous stops by then!

I used to go these gigs at the Half Moon. I haven't seen Little Stevie Smith in years and don't know if he's still around but I assume and hope he is. A great harmonica player. His band was called Salt, very bluesy with Steve Clarke on guitar, a fabulous player who recently did a reuniion gig at the Half Moon with his own band.

There was also the Sunday jams of which you're probably talking about here, which included both of the above and usually Rory Gallagher's rhythm section and any number of other people who wanted to sit in plus Steve Waller another fab guitar player who was a regular at these events but is sadly not longer with us, he died of sclerosis of the liver about ten years ago.

Thanks for the update Jah Lush...I had completely forgotten about Steve Waller's death which thru' the joys of Serendipity,I chanced upon hearing about it then..Seem to recall The West Country being his home...Rod Roche was a Jam Musician,as I remember..There is a similar looking Guy to SS living near me who I stopped but it was not him,unfortunately...Must find out what happened to The Foster Brothers(Graham was one)...used to play the South London Circuit."Count Me Out" was a good single from them.

"Rory"!!!!!!Biggest regret that I did not see Rory Gallagher in the 1970's/1980's-would have been tremendous-I used to play a mean Air Guitar....sadly STILL do!:))

Heavenly Records, home to such as Manic Street Preachers, Saint Etienne and Edwyn Collins, is having itself a little 3 day birthday bash on the South Bank in September. The full line up will be announced tomorrow and I'll post here. Could be some great gigs.

Separately, there may be a sniff of a Kraftwerk outing in the not too distant future.

Saw oasis at wembley arena last night and it was brilliant.

Don't usually like going to big venues and usually try to avoid them. Wasn't too bad there really. We had seats directly above the stage and in comparison to the kop, the leg room was almost first class. (not that we sat down)

Neither of which can even come close to touching Half Man Half Biscuit at the Forum last night.

They remain heroes to the core, I love them, opened with Restless Legs, belted out a coulpe of classics including Trumton Riots and Fuckin' Ell It's Fred Titmus, plus modern classics like 24 Hour garage People and For What is Chatteris.

Plus I love the age range, men in Dupla Prague away kits with their sons in Joy Division oven gloves...brilliant

Exacckly!

Reminds me of an old joke about the DHSS - back in the 80s (I think) the governm, ent renamed it the DSS, at which point comedians (and you really had to be there I guess) said "first they drop the H, next it'll be the D and then it'll show it's true colours eh eh???"

*shakes head*

I forgot how much I was miserable in the 80s!

Truth be told I don't share Mockney's love for HMHB - I'm with him on much else but we part company on this one

Back on topic - was I the only ED'er not to be at a gig last night? Ne'r mind I ghave a few coming up next month

    • OK, good suggestion and it appears that the after-market price is about £260. But if that that was fitted ex-factory then the cost would be substantially less and certainly a small fraction of the price of a high-end car.
