Free! - Every Session! Fitness & Toning on the Rye - Sat @10am 16 to 60+

Recommended Posts

11pm,

Just in from the National Theatre, great Alan Ayckbourn play! More to the point, we left at 6pm and it was -5C and back with less ice and was 1C.

Will be on the Rye in the morning, even if just one turns up :-) Will use the grass if even a tiny bit of ice on the path.

No worries Lady Muck :-)

It was an ice skating rink on Saturday, so you did the right thing!

I will be away next Saturday (11th), but the following will be the last one for December. I think a bit of RED for Christmas and mulled wine at the end with mince pies would be so good to finish 2010. I will send an all email this week.

G'day ExtensionsRus,

This group follows an easy routine, so long as a couple of the regulars turn up then its going ahead. There are a couple of new ones due to start the following Saturday.....

Thanks,

  • 3 weeks later...

Happy New Year to all!

Its time to burn those calories off and the FREE fitness sessions start again next Saturday at 10am.

For those wishing to join the group for the first time and think its only for runners, then you will be pleased to know that this is a powerwalking & jogging group with stretching, toning and some Chi Gung exercise thrown in too.

Simply fill in the health form and email it back (see the starter page for more details).

Each session burns approximately 600 calories! See you next Saturday!

McCabe

Wow,

in the past couple of days, there are 8 new members starting.

Please feel free to post a message on the forum to state your objectives and........ as an incentive, lets aim for a 5Km mid Feb - not a race, but a motivator!

BTW: If you have any friends in the N'London area......., we will be getting lots of FREE groups in the Islington & Finsbury area for 2011.

G'day Maria & Twin Mummy!

The group restarts this Saturday at 10am by the caf? (on the Rye). Completely FREE, just being some change for a tea / coffee at the end - very easy going from powerwalkers, but there are joggers in the group so you can join them and Lou lou from the Tuesday night runner groups also comes along (she does a FOC group on Tue eve).

If you haven't filled in a health form, you can do so by popping on to the website and popping halfway down the Healthform page..... copy it and paste it into an email. Any questions before Sat ... please ask.

McCabe

For all the new ones, the group is very relaxed and works through a gradual warm up. You can remain at the powerwalking or jogging pace or pick up the pace.

See you all in the morning!

Hi McCabe - I'd be really interested in joining, but have to negotiate with OH as it clashes with little kickers/ballet (not mine, for the young'uns) and he'll need to be the taxi service. How long does the session last? I think I can get away with this as long as I'm done by 11.30 (I'm sooooo indispensable ;-))

G'day Ryedelema,

We meet for 10am and finish stretching / CV & toning for c.11am. On dry days, there is the option of the cardio warm down with Chi Gung related exercise which helps to resume your heart rate and breathing pattern (c.5-mins in this weather). Then, we aim for the caf? for a tea or coffee.

So in short, you will have heaps of time.

Yesterdays session was excellent for the first day back. While toning, we counted in Spanish, French, German, Thai and sometimes fitted in English too. As this group is aimed at powerwalkers & joggers, you never have to worry about dropping in and out of session .... and I lead from the back so no one is ever left on their own.

Oh goodness - I didn't realise I'd have to have my brain switched on for this - I can probably manage 1-10 in ummmmm...Teletubbies....Upsy daisy.....Sooty (off Sooty and Sweep). I'll swot up Wikipedia-like.

And time for a shower before I get besieged again too - marvellous stuff. Now I just need Acas to help me open negotiations....

It gets better,

Sometimes on the Rye its in Korean too! In some of the other groups it includes Catalan, Iraqi, Afghan, Polish and Russian. We use to do Czech too!

Counting in Teletubbies is good, but...... if I recall it takes 4-seconds per each of their numbers, so you may find that your body will be so toned that you will have a 6-pack at the end of one session..... due to Eccentric Loading :-)

Just in from the PLH Ride London, shower is now required and then I think upto Lorenso's In Crystal Palace for Lunch.

And then Dancing on Ice tonight as one of our AHM members is doing her stuff on there.

Best,

McCabe

    • In what way? Maybe it just felt more intelligent and considered coming directly after Question Time, which was a barely watchable bun fight.
    • Yes, all this. Totally Sephiroth. The electorate wants to see transformation overnight. That's not possible. But what is possible is leading with the right comms strategy, which isn't cutting through. As I've said before, messaging matters more now than policy, that's the only way to bring the electorate with you. And I worry that that's how Reform's going to get into power.  And the media LOVES Reform.
    • “There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda ” I would call this “generous”   Labour should never have made that tax promise because, as with - duh - Brexit, it’s pretending the real world doesn’t exist now. I blame Labour in no small part for this delusion. But the electorate need to cop on as well.  They think they can have everything they want without responsibilities, costs or attachments. The media encourage this  Labour do need to raise taxes. The country needs it.  Now, exactly how it’s done remains to be seen. But if people are just going to go around going “la la laffer curve. Liars! String em up! Vote someone else” then they just aren’t serious people reckoning with the problem yes Labour are more than a year into their term, but after 14 years of what the Tories  did? Whoever takes over, has a major problem
    • Messaging, messaging, messaging. That's all it boils down to. There are only so many fiscal policies out there, and they're there for the taking, no matter which party you're in. I hate to say it, but Farage gets it right every time. Even when Reform reneges on fiscal policy, it does it with enough confidence and candidness that no one is wringing their hands. Instead, they're quietly admired for their pragmatism. Strangely, it's exactly the same as Labour has done, with its manifesto reverse on income tax, but it's going to bomb.  Blaming the Tories / Brexit / Covid / Putin ... none of it washes with the public anymore  - it wants to be sold a vision of the future, not reminded of the disasters of the past. Labour put itself on the back foot with its 'the tories fucked it all up' stance right at the beginning of its tenure.  All Lammy had to do (as with Reeves and Raynor etc) was say 'mea culpa. We've made a mistake, we'll fix it. Sorry guys, we're on it'. But instead it's 'nothing to see here / it's someone else's fault / I was buying a suit / hadn't been briefed yet'.  And, of course, the press smells blood, which never helps.  Oh! And Reeve's speech on Wednesday was so drab and predictable that even the journalists at the press conference couldn't really be arsed to come up with any challenging questions.
