Today my girlfriend was visited by a lady in her late 20s, italian accent, smartly dressed, with no identification but claimed to be from Talk Talk. She was claiming broadband was now 'free' and we shouldn't have to pay for it.

She made unusual comments such as 'you look nice' and also asked if she could come up to the flat to 'have a look'.

Last seen on Oakhurst Grove at 4pm on 27/10/10.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Tom

Yep, she just turned up at mine. She acted like she knew me, and gave me loads of compliments too. I just said I'm not interested, and I don't have a landline so she said ok and left. Thought it was a bit strange. She's Brazilian by the way- asked me where I'm from so asked her too.
On the train home tonight, the woman sitting opposite me was on the phone to someone who seemed to have had quite an upsetting experience. She was reassuring the other person, saying 'You should definitely complain to TalkTalk.' Maybe it was nothing to do with what happened to your girlfriend, or maybe it was your girlfriend she was talking to, but it doesn't sound like an isolated incident.
A lot of businesses (I don't know if TalkTalk is one) 'hire' salespeople, or hire sales firms that hire sales people, often paid just commission, to drum up trade - there was a lot of it about when power and telecoms were first de-regulated. This woman may not therefore be a con woman per se, but a (possibly) unscrupulous but otherwise legitimate sales person. Be particularly wary if you are asked to sign something saying that you have seen them, or heard their offer - it often turns out to be a sales agreement.
I had the same story from two men on my doorstep tonight...free broadband because the area had an exchange upgrade and had I had the literature from talk talk explaining? I didn't even take chain off the door but they were pretty overfriendly, if they are trying to make a living then they are probably going the wrong way about it.

East Dulwich is a prime target especially near Peckham borders because of its MOSIAC profile which is a bit out of date. It basically profiles the area as having a high index of people on benefits hence door to door is massively effective.

Irrelevant of socio-profile, it's bang out of order.

There was a whole bunch of the salesmen (about 8) on the train from London Bridge yesterday early afternoon. They got off at Peckham Rye. Their leader was going through how wonderful the company was & how much they would all be earning, I did hear mention of talk talk. They were quite nauseating with their macho posturing.

I had a salesman at my door a couple of months ago with the same pitch of had I got the leaflet, I shouldn't be paying for broadband because of an exchange upgrade etc etc. A very strange aggressive sales technique. They have obviously sent out new batch of freshly trained sales people.

Haha yeah I saw those guys coming out the other night and millling around the station, looked like proper sleazy salesmen

They're nationwide - I split my time between ED and Hastings and had a similar doorstep call from an overfriendly guy claiming broadband was now free in my area. He went away with a flea in his ear after I'd established that 'free' broadband came at a price for other services in the bundle.

That Brazilian young one came around to my house the other day aswell. I'm in the Tyrell Road area. She started waffling on at me as if she knew me, very odd, and kept saying that we had talked last week about changing to Talk Talk. I just told her that she was mustaken, that I wasn't interested, and shut the door in her face (how rude of me!) It is a bit of a strange way of going about things. Was thinking of making a complaint to Talk Talk so I was.

So did anyone fall for it?

Talk Talk are a terrible company and should be avoided at all costs. When my father died earlier this year and I cancelled his broadband account with them, they pestered my mother for months about supposedly unpaid bills. I had to threaten legal action to make them stop contacting her. Awful bastards with no soul or respect.

    • Poor dog….how bloody stupid of owners who clearly have zero recall of their dog. Not good recall, don’t  let your dog off  the lead or have it on a long line. Why did you not hop over fence and get into water to try and rescue dog? Dies in cold water. Totally disgusted but then not surprised by people … No different from people walking their dogs on cliff paths when know might fall off…an  advised to keep on the lead.. do they pay attention….No… what is wrong with people? Don’t they have any common sense? And why wait for fire department? Not exactly strong currents like sea… RIP woofer… no sympathy for owners whatsoever…

    • Andy came recommended by another Tradesman who also did a job for us.  And I am so happy for the recommendation.    Andy is very knowledgeable and professional in his approach to work. The cost of the job was very reasonable. He’s installed temporary ceiling coverage following a leak until the ceiling can be repaired.   Highly recommend Andy and will be using again in very near future! 👍   Thanks Andy!  Andy 07564 194 363.
    • Another recommendation for Greg. Echoing pretty much everything everyone else has said. Friendly communication, good work, and clear pricing. Will be sure to use him again for any future plumbing needs! Thanks Greg!
