There's nothing better than waking up in the morning to the joyful sounds of Spring...the lesser spotted Bitter Blue aka Bertie, with it's cheeky little Citeh! Citeh! mating call...it's a feisty little blighter, very territorial and doesn't get along with the neighbouring birds...once thought to be close to extinction, it's numbers are increasing and can now be seen quite regularly coming out of the woodwork...

Atila can be quite funny though...as can Hatche... erm...Jimmy Two Times. In fact I think the pair of them are quite hilarious and misunderstood a lot of the time. But then, having (I am persistently told) a very strange sense of humour myself, who the hell am I to comment - eh?

Bye the way, nice to see another Man. U supporter today (hello Red Devil). Is that a grand total of 3 Man. U supporters on this thread now? (Excluding closet supporters of course)?

I'm afraid that, in one part of your post at least, you are misguided LM.

You are right Jah.

I have to say...this isn't the most welcoming of threads though - generally. It should be a nice friendly thread and included in that should be plenty of friendly piss-taking about each other's teams...all part of the fun I would have thought. Certainly, whenever I have piss-taked (piss-took?) I have meant it in jest. But then one man's joke is another man's abuse and vice versa...oh Lord I'm wittering on...I'll just go away...

Absolutely. Supporting a team with no serious history of achievement in 135 years, I have always assumed that this was the whole point of football.

Maybe the occasional serious point being thrown in just to keep the thread on track.

It does smell a bit of old pants and curly-wurly's doesn't it?

Some of the cast-list on here seem fine on other threads but it all gets a bit Just-William (on a good day) and Lord of the Flies (on a bad day)

Seems to have quietened down of late tho

Anyway - Arsenal for the double

That's because Atila's gone. He was just one big wind up merchant from start to finish. I'm sure there were a lot of us who did find it very hard to ignore his constant baiting and the result was it turned into a school playground with him playing the part of Biffa Bacon. I sincerely hope he won't be back.

I wasn't having a pop at you LM by saying I don't advertise my support of MU all the time.Your response suggests to me that you thought I was. I wasn't, honest!

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
