Since losing access to "proper" TV I'd struggle to put together a world xi I think. Does any channel even bother to show the Serie A any more? Or has the general corruptness of it all put people off?

Wayne Rooney is an excellent footballer but is not in same class as Lionel Messi (and neither are Torres or Ronaldo for that matter). Messi is simply the best player in the world by a country mile - and maybe the best of all time, yes even better than Cruyff, Maradona and Pele.

What I really like about Rooney is that there is no mistaking the fact he's English and couldn't be anything else. I can't even imagine him playing for a foreign club.

If I would compare Messi's style of play to any of the great players of the Pele etc era I'd say he is most similar to Best.
