I have just been shopping in ED looking for those last few gifts and stocking fillers and love the fact that the shops are so packed and busy (good to hear the festive Ker Ching from the tills)

However can I make a requesgt to the Mums and ladies of East Dulwich to do everyone a simple favour.. ask your husbands / Boyfriends or Lovers* not to come shopping with you and to take the kids to the park / cafe or child friendly pub as I saw three poor partners who didn't get the idea of shopping "It's too expensive for Mimi" or "Why are't we getting that - sigh" and a few of them even standing awkwardly in the aisle with buggies making it hard for the other shoppers to get around.

Ladies - please remember that for Christmas most** men want one thing and one thing only (apart from socks) and that is to be left at home / in the pub whilst the Christmas shopping is happening.

So please make it a wonderful and stressful experience for everyone and have a happy Christmas***

Notes:

* Best not to bring Husband, Boyfriend and Lover at the same time as that may cause real arguments.

** most but not all men !

*** And keep on shopping locally to keep these fantastic businesses local too.

Wow, I'd love to be left at home/in the pub whilst the Christmas shopping is happening.

I wonder if you'd find that actually what most women want at Christmas is not to be expected to shoulder the entire burden of present shopping/ wrapping/ food buying/menu planning/ general Christmas organising whilst working/child rearing/cleaning/cooking/washing at the same time. Or maybe that's just me.

And just because my boyfriend is useless at Christmas shopping doesn't mean he doesn't have a vital role to play in carrying all the shopping bags.

artful i will be shopping tomorrow from 3 till 6. how kind of you of to say you would prefer to be left at home rather than encounter me out and about. i have three children between 6 and 18 months. i have pm'd you my address. they can sometimes be a bit feral with strangers but since it is all in a good cause i'm sure you'll manage. oh and i might stop by the pub on they way back - what a great idea of yours! - so we should probably make it 3 till 9 afterall. i have suggested you to some other friends of mine who still have some shopping to do and they are absolutely delighted and will be in touch. thank you so much - love this forum!
Calm down everyone - I suggest people go shopping on their own and leave their children with family / friends / neighbours - I went shopping in Lordship Lane today and so wanted to comfort the babies & children in prams/buggies who were shrieking their heads off. Listen - they are telling you THEY WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!

Just spent afternoon on LL with wife and two kids in buggy. V pleasant, thankfully no shrieking and no obviously malign feeing from grumpy singletons in evidence, contrary to sentiment in this thread.

However, my word, Sainsburys was unpleasant! It wasn't buggies that were the issue, more the psychos in the cheese aisle with their overloaded trollies. Police in riot gear were sitting outside in their van waiting for it all to kick off!

Perhaps we are seeing in ED a microscopic case study of our overcrowded planet.

    • I’m currently conducting exploratory research into menstrual health education in UK secondary schools and would really value the insight of PSHE leads, Heads of Year, or pastoral staff.    The research aims to understand:   How the menstrual cycle is currently taught within the RSHE framework Where schools feel confident — and where there may be gaps Whether students are taught and  asking questions around the full menstrual cycle, symptoms, wellbeing and conditions such as PMS/PMDD or endometriosis How schools support students in feeling empowered to understand their bodies and seek help appropriately Whether education around nutrition, lifestyle, and menstrual wellbeing is currently addressed   The long-term goal is to explore whether there is a need for additional, age-appropriate, medically informed support on the menstrual cycle.  I’m not selling a programme and there is no obligation beyond a 30 minute informal chat online (Unpaid). All conversations will be confidential and used only to inform the research. If you work in a UK secondary school and would be willing to share your perspective, I would be extremely grateful to hear from you. Please comment below or email me [email protected] Thank you for the vital work you do. Best wishes, Emma
    • Nice topic and nice song!  1) Definitely top of Canonbie, looking North. 2) What used to be Francesca Cabrini school at the top of FHR. 3) Honor Oak playground, next to Camberwell New cemetery.
