Penguin68
A news report today suggested at 10% of High Street locations were currently empty/ closed. At the moment LL seems (generally) to be bucking this trend; it will be interesting to see if this continues past the CPZ implementation. goldilocks
Really though? From the top of the street the following properties are empty (pre CPZ)The building previously part of the Maudsley trust (double fronted building onto Lship lane)The old French caf?The old ThreshersThe building next to SMBS is a constant pop up at the moment but has been closed on and off for yearsDulwich TandooriLush DesignsMight have missed some but off the top of my head those stand out. Earl Aelfheah
The old French House is now Sylvesters.Threshers finally looks like it's being renovated after years of being empty (following a cannabis farm getting busted in the flat above it)The Building next to SMBS has a deliberate business model / offer as a space for rotating places I think.Lush Designs is indeed empty at presentThe Maudsley site isn't a retail unit.In addition there have been a flurry of new openings.Personally, I think LL is doing pretty well. Will be interesting to see what happen post brexit though. maxxi
Another empty shop/new business is about to be added to the list when Sogim Pharmacy closes. There is already a 'New Lease Available' sign nailed to the outside. Pharmacist says increased rent is why she is leaving. geh
quite a few new openings, imho they should all be celebrated, much better than empty units. goldilocks
Also just heard that Aneto is closing (by Goose Green) - my point on this is not that the 'Lane is in decline' - but more to flag that the increasing rates is generally pushing some businesses out and there is continual turnover. Sylvesters appears to be some kind of bar / pizza place. No one seems to know what the old Threshers will be. Hemingway
Street, dominated by independent retail, with small retail spaces in affluent area with relatively low footfall characterised by many comings and goings of shops/restaurants shocker. Been this way for ages. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/233841-new-businesses-on-the-lane/#findComment-1360879 Share on other sites

No one seems to know what the old> Threshers will be.Think this may be more to do with poor management since they expanded into the bigger premises. Used to love going in there as it's on the doorstep but on recent visits experienced loud music which they refused to change or turn down, slow service etc and not replying to customers online so a large part of this is down to customers voting with their feet round here as there is so much choice rather than a general decline. micromacromonkey
bumr about Aneto, the kids love that place. I agree though it hasn't transitioned very well into that larger space. Humdinger
Sign in the window of Headinizm saying they are closing end of September. Shame, as i was going to try it with a view to it being my regular, as the prices seem quite reasonable. If we don't support our independents then big companies will take over. I love Sogem's, always friendly and willing to help and advise at the drop of a hat. Please support local business!
