I'm at home with my new-fangled polyester cast after fracturing the end of my radius in a cycle accident and I started thinking about the four breaks I've had in my life. These have all been caused directly or indirectly by sport activities: 2x radius (cycling), 1x metacarpal (rugby) and 1x fibula (running).

I consider myself lucky that these were minor. Has anyone else got any stories?

if i had,nt have played hurling i,d be fracture free, but the beautiful game has been responsible for numerous fractures to fingers and metacarpals, 1 big toe, 1 ankle,1 humerus and a broken jaw(which i would,nt recommend to anyone, unless you like sucking tomato soup through a straw)and although technically not a fracture 1 dislocated shoulder which was probably more painful than the rest all put together.

There was a van apparently indicating to turn right, at the same time the motorbike was overtaking the van and collided I was walking away in a kinda dreamy sort of way, sunny Sunday afternoon towards Llanelli beach when the bike mounted the pavement from behind and took my legs away from underneath me.

I met up with an old school friend through facebook last time I went home, and she said that she was there that day and saw me fly into the air. It was quite weird hearing the story from someone who was there.

I love the fact that you, Dave CPR, are so unaware of how another can be affected by something that does not personally affect yourself. Blissful ignorance. Lack of Empathy. Cold hearted.
    • Not fair on the patients or the consultants, either.  My brother's an ED consultant and he is on his knees - they all have the flu but have to work through it, because it's so busy at this time of year. Adding the strike to this just makes everything feel even more impossible and he's pretty low right now.
