I think it has gone down hill

I was in there not too long ago and asked for cauliflower from the worker on the fruit and veg aisle. He told me he couldn't leave his trolley he was unpacking because he had 3 other aisles to stock on top of his own usual fruit and veg aisle!

He said your welcome to complain, to which i told him i would but not about him but about the situation the poor management had left him in! and this was back in Nov so no real Dec Xmas rush... i sympathize with the guy, i used to work in that store and another too but i never had anything like that happen to me - 3 flipping aisles to stock on your own what a joke! hard enough ddoing one, what a joke! poor fella...

Anyway i found someone and she took bloody 20 mins to look and came back with nothing i kid you not! both nice people and not their fault but yeesh how bad is that?!

I didnt complain in the end... not after waiting 20 mins, i just wanted to get out of there!

Whether the comments about service quality are justified or not, the criticisms of price appear not to be.

Sainsburys is currently the cheapest of the full service supermarkets https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/aldi-lidl-sainsburys-which-cheapest-supermarket-a4337921.html.

Live very nearby Sainsburys DKH so have found myself in there several times a week over the past 6 or so years and I definitely think it?s gone down hill, particularly in the past 2 months.

I haven?t a bad word to say about the staff. I?ve always found them to be very friendly, helpful & pleasant.

But the shelves are half empty! At the moment, it seems like the vegetable aisles are always half empty. I know it?s ?Veganuary? or whatever but good management/buying should have taken that into consideration.

Moreover - I?ve been noticing a rotten stench round said Aisles and today noticed, in a couple

of the very empty crates, a few inches of liquid that is best decribed as similar to ?bin juice? and the smell too. Staff were totally oblivious as they cleared the units of empty crates...

Shame because I?m loving the smart shop scanning and used to find everything I needed. Hope it?s just a blip!

Brexit.

There's been on ongoing issue with rotten food in the fruit and crates for sometime. Staff do not seem concerned unless it is pointed out. Complacency?

I have also noticed an increase in the number of items where expiry dates have been exceeded by a few days while still on the shelves, but when highlighted to staff they are quick to react and appreciative.

As stated, tell the store manager, putting it on here won't give the store the information it needs to rectify the situation unless the manager is an avid reader of the forum. My suspicions are that they don't read the EDF.

If the manager isn't interested then contact head office

I've had calls from companies after bad reviews on TrustPilot or TripAdvisor - which I will then update if my issue is put right. Social Media works but it has to be a valid complaint.

EDF gets quoted regularly in certain newspapers I've noticed :)

I just wanted to add my thoughts to this thread, having gone to this Sainsburys for years - whilst it's certainly one downhill recently, and having a knack for always selling of the one thing I want (why is there always a dish on dish drying racks whenever I remember I need to buy one?) I have always found the staff to be some of the friendliest I've met in a supermarket, usually going the extra mile if you have questions. Same can be said for the Pharmacy staff, and the ones in Argos (even though they seem a bit bored sometimes).

I posted on this thread in November about the poor stocking in this store and the situation has definitely deteriorated since then. On any given visit over the last few moths, I've been unable to get several items that I've wanted. None of them particularly obscure items, either.

They're especially bad at keeping their fresh herbs and their dried herbs/spices fully stocked. I wonder if this is a problem that's peculiar to this store or all of Sainsburys. I don't really visit any others, so it's hard to tell.

Edited to add that I've never had any problems with their staff. This is a management/stock keeping issue.

    • If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
    • Oh, I didn't know that! I didn't move here till 1991 (I think) but the NCR incarnation must have been around that time? Unless my failing memory is even worse than I thought it was, sob.
    • I just googled, and apparently there's another branch of the Soho Street Govinda's  in Theobald's Road. I had no idea.
