I've just finished jury duty at the Old Bailey. Next to each court is a jury waiting room, the seats in there were fold up seats linked in rows, a bit like cheap cinema seats. Every few feet around the walls was the following sign:

"Please check your seat is NOT in the UPRIGHT position when you sit down"

So there have apparently been people sitting as jurors at the bailey who couldn't be trusted to sit on their own arses without injuring themselves.

She also did one on faddish name (witness the mighty growth of the name Colt thanks to the Fall guy)

Would love to see something similar done for the UK.

Random query:

I walked past the gym on Crystal palace road yesterday morning at about 10am and saw a parade of people leaving the building each brandishing some form of padded stick. Then they all assesmbed on Goose Green. I have no idea what they were doing and I didn't have time to stick around. I assume some sort of exercise class?

Can anyone explain this?

This reminds me of something... in the movie The Abyss, they used a "breathable liquid" in the diving suits, allowing humans to dive deep down into the sea. But before our hero takes the plunge, they demonstrate the principal using a rat, by submerging it in the special liquid.

The thing is, the rat scene wasn't CGI... they really did it.

telephone number layouts - we know the 3 x 4 grid by now. But it could have been sooo different if the labs approved something different back in the 50's

    • Please don't call them "pests". They are animals who have as much right to be here as we do. Which doesn't mean we can't use humane ways to keep them off our crops, like fruit cages and netting.
    • This thread started about how to deal with pests that cause a lot of damage and leave unpleasant offerings, but has morphed into concerns about welfare for the pests.  I think it's time that local authorities gave us help with foxes and squirrels:  it's especially difficult trying to grow fruit and veg when these animals cause so much destruction.
    • Peter has been recommended many times on here and we can now also recommend him highly, having just had our wetroom walk-in shower done. Prompt response, came when he said, engaged with us helpfully when decisions had to be made, cleaned up well at the end and finished on time. He has been tiling 25 years, and is clearly expert. He also does e.g. victorian tiled pathways.
    • They properly think " its that weirdo who gives us stage lighting whilst we ae mating, again'" 😅
