Was in co op today and saw a man take lots of meat packs and walk straight out the door, I told a co op staff member and they said oh Did not seem too bothered and said they don't ever have any security working there

Is it now ok to steal food, maybe things have got so bad for people that they have to

I think he has heard the Dulwich vegans are starting our Meat Free Days again and is getting prepared.

If you would like to try a meat free day, which reduces your carbon footprint, land, energy and water use, then why not tweet me at @DulwichVeganSoc and I'll send you some meat free ideas!

Tom

I would have said the same thing. From what I remember if my says working at a Co-op, if there's no security you need two witnesses and even then, if you challenge them and they bolt for the door, what are you going to do? Plus I want paid enough to care about that. If there's no security then so be it. Even security guards have limited powers and it's such a common occurrence. It is frustrating though, I agree.

"maybe things have got so bad for people that they have to" Things have always been bad for many people. What planet have you been living on. Years ago we sent people to Australia for nicking bread. In some countries they cut folks hands off.

Sorry but that was a bit of a naive statement.

So one person goes into a shop and helps them self and it is passed off as one of those things. ??

Then surely it's ok for anyone to walk into a shop and help them self.

So 20 people walk into a shop and help them self. and it constitutes a Riot. Looting

People have short memories.

would you steal broccoli and mung beans from the co-op if you were skint Tom ?

I've seen similar several times and also in the co-op with meat. One time a lady walked in, picked up 3 joints of topside and just walked out. And nobody batted an eyelid.

The new Co-op sucks anyway - those plastic wooden floorboards that are meant to look "organic" and "your local Dulwich store" pretenses of neighborhood intimacy from a national chain make me want to vomit. It's bigger, yet strangely much harder to find anything.

Show me why people have to steal food because it's "got so bad".

    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
