Summer babies club (due June, July, Aug 2013)

Recommended Posts

Hi Team Summer!

Excuse me for joining late. I'm due 28th June and it's baby #1 for us. Congrats to everyone, especially the sets of twins, that's amazing news! Glad everyone's scans going well so far. Have the 20 week scan on 13 Feb, bit nervous but 12 week scan was fine so fingers crossed.

I also hear you on the feeling of being hungry all the time - my tummy's in knots what feels like only an hour after I eat, crazy...

Would love to join on 19th - don't have a baby on board badge yet but am sporting a little bump already - really looking fwd to meeting other local mums and mums to be then. :)

Hi Ellianna! V exciting and I reckon the collection of badges and bumps will be easy to spot a mile off...thanks for the heads up Ginster. I wasn't going to get one but maybe I should be sporting one with pride!

ps had our second scan yesterday and little thing was so much bigger...could even see the heart chambers pumping away, absolutely incredible what they can see, just can't believe it.

Much more relieved, and reckon may start to think about what to buy etc when it arrives. My friends all seem most excited about changing bag shopping with me...not quite as excited about that, but got some maternity clothes today as had to wear my jogging bottoms to the hosp last night and felt like a complete slob!!! It's a slippery slope ladies!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for joining this thread a bit late. I am pregnant with my first and due in July (24th like MarleneG5S). I am new to the area having only just moved here and it would be great to meet some local mums. I have also signed up for the NCT class at the end of May in East Dulwich. Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th!

Sals12 ? where did you do pilates? I?d like to start doing yoga or pilates. In my last pregnancy I continued to run/jog throughout my entire pregnancy but this one I feel so rubbish all the time I haven?t really been doing much at all and I feel very unfit.

Glad everyones scans are going well. My first scan showed up some health issues so we?ve got some worries. And with identical twins you have to have scans every other week so it?s gonna feel like I spend my life at Kings!!

Looking forward to meeting x

Hi all - we're growing in number (as well as in tum!) so I wondered should we try to book an area in the EDT? Would also make it easier to meet (otherwise could have pockets of ladies in badges dotted around the pub!)

The drinks weren't my plan originally so don't want to steam in - what do you think? I can't recall who suggested EDT if they wanted to book - or I'm happy to?

Good luck lstickler - my sis-in-law was given an indication of heart issues and there were none but she of course worried the whole time - I'm so wary/worried about false positives or false negatives for that reason - I guess you don't know for sure til they arrive! I'd love to see mine every other week but it must be tough for you to have to keep going back so often! My friend just had twins early at 32 weeks and they're both thriving now and totally healthy!

I'm so looking forward to meeting a new circle of ED people and boy will we have plenty to talk about! ;o)

Yes it was heart problems that were indicated, so good to know that your sister's initial worries turned out to be unfounded - thanks. When they are big enough then they'll have a full cardiac scan so we'll know more then.

Booking an area in the EDT sounds like a good idea. Would be great if you could book. Thanks x

lsticker: We have heart problems in the family and they found a reverse flow on the 1st scan so going to have a closer look at that on Monday with a specialist. I think a thing to keep in mind about King's is that it is a research hospital so they will look at everything in detail. We were told that this reverse flow they found is something most hospitals wont even look at or mention!

Istickler, I think the girls are right, they look for everything which is great but can also worry you unnecessarily at times. I have just started Pilates with Anya, if you search Body balancing SE15 on Facebook you will find her page. Located in Peckham which isn't so bad for me but a bit of a trek from ED. good idea about booking an area at the EDT, seems the summer will be very busy with new additions in the neighbourhood! X

Hi ladies,

How are you all feeling?

Istikler definitely agree with everyone on King's they come across as very thorough - good luck with the scans, maybe seeing your little one at the scans will help reassure you? I think it would for me. Oh and I think Push Studios and Dulwich Leisure Centre both do prenatal yoga and pilates, it's on my list to look into.

Thanks for booking an area Ginster!

We're signed up for NTC at the end of May, we're taking Tessa's class - is that the same one as you PhillyIlly? :) though I think there are a few options around here from the sound of earlier posts.

We're also taking a hypnobirthing class - might end up being total overkill with the classes but I just really really want to try hypnobirthing.

Hi everyone, sorry to gatecrash your thread I was just browsing through and getting a little alarmed at what's being posted so I thought I would just take the opportunity to pick up on some incorrect assumptions.

I teach the NCT antenatal classes here in East Dulwich, the course I run covers everything, from labouring in water, through to Caesareans (in as much detail as you'd like!), including Induction, Forceps & Ventouse, the range of pain medications available and a lot of postnatal emphasis. I know that some of you have attended NCT classes where Caesareans weren't covered for some reason, & I can only say 'what a shame':( the NCT allows each teacher to make up her own course & some just don't chose to cover some aspects of birth. I do & so does my colleague who teaches in Nunhead.

Our aim is to make sure you leave with an understanding of the full range of types of birth that might happen to you: why they might happen; the likelihood of different things happening; what the process is for each type of birth and how to make your birth (whatever happens within it) as good as it can be in whatever circumstances you find yourself in. Of course we also aim for you to have fun (people learn better when they're enjoying themselves) and yes, one of our main aims is for you to leave with a good supportive friendship group to go forward into parenthood with - to that end we arrange several post class meet ups and aim to attend one ourselves so we can hear all your stories afterwards.

Ariadna is right about the benefits of keeping it local. My Nunhead colleague & I are long term ED & environs residents, our children attend the local schools, here so we have a good knowledge of local services for families which we love to share. She's also right about the cost - the initial outlay for our classes is more than for the ones she runs :( , however our classes run for longer and on an hour for hour basis your local NCT classes works out nearly 25% cheaper :). We know that for families in these straightened times spending on antenatal classes is a luxury, & we aim to give you the most we can in the most compact and accessible (evenings & weekends) framework to keep your costs down. We have both had our children within the maternity systems at local hospitals so we know what it's like to be in the systems you are in as a service user. Additionally, I am working as a student midwife at a local hospital so, like Ariadna, can give you all the benefits of an up to date Midwifery perspective.

If you'd like to ask me any questions please feel free to PM me. Ultimately I just would like the opportunity to share with you, and a small group (my classes are a maximum of 6 couples) of other people in same situation, the knowledge gained from being an NCT teacher, student Midwife & local Mum in the same situation over a cup of tea and some biscuits in a warm and comfortable environment :D

As I said at the start, I'm so sorry for gatecrashing, but I hope I've been able to give you a clearer perspective on what your local NCT classes, and the people who run them offer?

Thanks Ginster!! 7 sounds great time. Yes we have had a similar thing with blood tests...I have some weird antibody that no one recognises so had to have more blood and tests etc. My midwife told me that at most hospitals it wouldn't have even been picked up as it's not one of the major antibodies. Def think it's good they're so thorough but blimey it's not without it's worries!

Would love to get into some pilates/yoga too...thanks for the heads up!

Thanks sillywoman (sorry that sounds rude!) for the info, great to hear what you can offer. I think we've decided to go with the Ariadna class purely as it's so close to us, over less time, our midwife was really positive about it and we just like the sound of it, but I know lots of ladies on here have mentioned they're opting for NCT. Different strokes for different folks I guess..definitely need all the help I can get so thanks for the information!

Hello - I live in ED and we are expecting our first.. dd 9th June but they will be early as we're having twins! I seem to be right between this group and the spring babies club in the timing of my pregnancy, but I think I noticed there are some other twin pregnancies in this group?! Would be great to be in touch with other mums-to-be locally. J.x

Congratulations Julesonline! Third announcement of twins so far, amazing!

We had our 20-week scan today and all looked well. We also had a cardiac scan which showed no abnormalities so we are very relieved about that. The baby kept moving around, opening his mouth and sucking his thumb. Fantastic!

Hello - congrats all & hope you don't mind if I get on the band-wagon. I am due on 27 June. This is our first baby and I'm really keen to meet other new mums and mums-to-be in ED. Will try and escape work on 19th to get involved with the inaugural meeting of the Summer babies club. Look forward to meeting you all then. Thanks, Lx

More twins here! I am still in shock about this so it has taken me a couple of weeks to post. Would have been due end of July but this has been adjusted to around the 7th.

I have 2 girls already so am particularly keen to meet the other twin mums and those who face the juggling act of newborn plus toddler.

Congratulations everyone. I hope to make it on the 19th.

Wow! Twins galore!

Am looking forward to meeting everyone on the 19th!

Incase anyone else thinking it, I'll probably grab some food in the EDT as we're meeting at that sort of time.

And yes 19th Feb.

I had a v brief scan today (checking other things but v pleased when did a quick belly check too). Have a very active baby apparently! And it turned to screen so it looked like it looked at me which was kinda freaky but cool!!
