Hi Summer babies crew,

I am sorry to hijack your thread because I can imagine it gets a bit annoying (!) however I want to tell you about an event I am running in East Dulwich on Sunday 21st April at JAGS school. It's a nearly new sale aimed at local families where you will find good quality baby & toddler toys, clothes, maternity items, equipment etc. We have some brilliant buggies, play mats, cots, slings etc all in brilliant condition at bargain prices. On top of this there's a cafe, a designer seconds children's interiors stall (perfect for nursery decoration/curtains etc) and a soft play area (if you have other kids).

I am a local mum who has set this up recently to help local families pass their once loved toys and equipment on to others. It would be great to see you on the day.

Please go to our website peekaboo-nearly-new.co.uk to find out more or like us on facebook http://www.facebook.com/PeekabooNearlyNew to receive updates about what's on sale or you can PM me.

Peekaboo Nearly New

Hi ladies - sorry I missed the meet up.. spent a fun day in KCH getting diagnosed with gestational diabetes so was pretty tired and getting my head around it all. Would like to come along to the June meet-up on Sunday @ gardens cafe - what time were you thinking? J.x
Hi Jules - that sucks - I was borderline at 7.6 at only 20 weeks so have spent the past 4 weeks desperately trying to avoid any naughtiness to stave it off and keep my diet balanced (not that I had a bad diet before at all). Hopefully you can just control it through diet and don't have to take anything else and all will be good.
I'm due 19th June and would love to join you on Sunday - anytime works for me. Still planning The Gardens? I have a 22 month old son (who won't be joining me) but it would be good to meet other local mums-to-be, especially those of you with toddlers.

Hi all, is anyone keen on trying hypnobirthing?

My doula is really lovely and offers courses at home. If I can get a group together it would be a bit cheaper. All details are on her website http://www.mellowbirthing.co.uk/#!hypnobirthing/c6ay

Please let me know if you're interested, I'm due in June so would love to get it started asap! :-)

Hi Astrid83, I'm not sure how many people she can take as a maximum, but i guess the smaller the group the better. She says it's better when partners participate too so that doubles the headcount. As long as there are 2 of us (or more) the price goes down from ?375 to ?255. let me know what you think :-)

Hi Everyone,

I'm completely new to this thread too but due early/mid June and am also new to the area. We moved from Brockley a few months ago. I'm a 2nd time mum (have a 2 1/2 year old) and would love to meet more mums due about the same time so if there are any new catch ups scheduled, I'd love to say hi!

Lins x

I think Jen has booked the EDT space already for the next few months, 3rd Tuesday of each month which is the 16th April i think as she is super organised! Jen is this right? I am def up for a big meet too, as well as separate June, July/August meet ups x

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
