Hurrah, got tickets for Reading Festival!!! :))

Very very excited about the return of The Smashing Pumpkins, and will be nice to see the chilli peppers too... Razorlight, not a huge fan, but from what I can tell, they're good live...

Also, Arcade Fire are playing, so I get to hear what Mightyroar and Clare are raving about... What sort of stuff do they play, I can't think of any of their tunes, and don't get round to listening to much XFM these days!

Anyway, can't wait!!! >:D<

Lucky you Keef. Maybe i'll get lucky and see you there.

If you like the pumpkins I reckon you'll love the Arcade Fire. Indietastic is what they are. A bit like the pixies with more whoo whoos. Also have a female vocalist as well as a male one. She sounds a bit like Bjork. On stage when I saw them they had 2 brass instruments, a full sized organ, a double bass, and an accordian. as well as yer usual expected instruments.

A nice bit of quiet load quiet VERY LOUD kind of themes running through their songs. And bonkers lyrics about Jesus, cars, babies, vampires.....

it's all good.

Your so lucky going to Reading - I have been going to Glastonbury for years but with my lovely son Frankie only being 4 months I have to give it a miss this year

Arcade Fire are amazing I would love to see them live .For all the Stone Roses fans out there am sure you know this already but Ian Browns solo stuff is pretty damn good too. Solarized is highly recommended!

Also I keep seeing Dolly Parton advertised on TV and am quite fancying a bit of Joleen in the summer months.

Jonny Moro from Razorlight - just who does he think he is with his tight whites on, I cant even look at him and as for Kasabian - has the lead singer turned in to Liam Gallagher? On the other hand I seen Maximo Park interviewed and they seem very cool...Just watching them on Soccer AM - did anyone ever see the dance off on Soccer AM - very funny!

I am listening to the Sunshine Underground at the moment who are pretty good I have to say

Is no one on the site into R&B? The devils music itself

I reckon a Madchester revival is imminent. A reappraisal of Northside is long overdue... seriously.

Kaiser Chiefs remind me of Menswear. Except that Menswear were pretty.

Johnny Borrel of Razorlight looks like that Muppet with big lips and long hair to me. And his music, like that of the Killers, is overblown MOR nonsense of the sort Jeremy Clarkson would like.

Was wondering whether to get the Deakin. Thanks.

I'm listening to:

Arcade Fire (Funeral and Neon Bible)

LCD Soundsystem (old and new)

Sufjan Stevens - everything apart from the crazy Christmas stuff

The Postal Service - anything

Boards of Canada - In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (I wish it were 10 times longer)

Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye

Joanna Newsom - Ys and The Milk-Eyed Mender

U.N.K.L.E. - Edit Music For A Film (mix)

Stina Nordenstam - People Are Strange

Tracey Thorn - Out Of The Woods

Trentemoller - The Last Resort

Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself

Jimmy Van M - Balance 010 (mix)

M.A.N.D.Y. - At The Controls (mix)

Booka Shade - Movements

and anything by Ame and the German electro crowd including Tiefschwarz

James Lavelle - Noir - a new DJ mix he gave me last autumn when he was supporting his younger brother at Brixton Jamm

New Young Pony Club, The Presets (saw them both last spring at Canvas) and all that - one of my top tunes of 2006 was Preset's Girl & The Sea (but not Klaxons!)

Various remixers, including Cut Copy, Trentemoller

and finally,

Burial - Burial. If you've not hear of 'dubstep', or not heard any, but like dub, techo or even ambient, Burial could be for you. It's kinda dubstep, without really being dubstep. Much wider appeal. Urban and industrial, but ethereal and emotional. Made by a south (south-east?) London producer who's a bit of a mystery, and really seems to be about south London. Whatever that is.

Can't stand:

Kaiser Chiefs

Klaxons

Lilly Allen (other than as a comic act)

Haven't made up my mind about:

Matthew Herbert - Scale (good in parts). (Trivia - I believe Matthew, and Dani Siciliano, used to be residents of fair Forest Hill.)

Louisiana

James - The Northside revival has been noted. Fancy starting up a night in Dulwich? Bit of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses and the Smiths all day long...I myself am from Liverpool so we could add to that some classics from the Farm, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Real People and the Zutons - maybe even a bit of Sonia for the hell of it!

Mightroar I am glad you agree on what a ponce he is! I was just also thinking that I quite like The Gossips song but after watching their vid, one of their members is wearing a balaclava for effect I am now thinking otherwise. Its funny how the little things get to you isnt it

Well I still like the Gossip regardless of the balaclava. they're young n foolish is all.

I'm glad we all agree about Johnny Borrell but the Killers are actually good. Not the same.

Also James were a great band. I sat down at their gigs with all the rest. If we're allowing Northside then surely we can let a little Come Home in?

Back to listening and I notice that Fopp seem to be pushing Bella Union music at the moment.

They are currently my favourite music label. UK based but look far & wide for talent, including the marvellous Howling Bells, The Dears, Midlake, Laura Veirs, My Latest Novel, Ffion Regan, Robert Gomez etc etc.

Anyway, they all seem to be going for between 5 and 7 quid, so well, well worth a visit.

Today's (guilty) purchases:

Dirty Three - She Has No Strings Apollo

Dustin O'Halloran - Piano Solos Vol 2

Mazarin - We're Already There

Laura Veirs - Year of Meteors

My Latest Novel - Wolves

Weeeelll, it IS payday!

    • Unless they were wearing school uniform with name tags otherwise children do change their clothes you know.
    • I'd also recommend Silvano for anyone in the area looking to learn automatic, having just passed first time with 5 minors. He's a very patient teacher and ensured I learned how to drive safely above all.
    • You don't need to do the research. I had to know the numbers as a TV buyer. I analysed the potential advertising revenue and Channel Four didn't cover their costs. They had some nice 'Channel Four' signs when someone hit the ropes but, In all honesty, a lot a potential revenue was lost because most old knackers were pissed off because they couldn't perve at Carol Vorderman on 'Countdown'.       Sorry, cross-post. I was replying to Malumbu. Give me a minute, if you will. I listened to the first two sessions (today) on TMS and popped down to the pub for the evening one.   I do miss the days of Peter West, Richie Benaud and Tom Graveney on BBC2.   But, the BBC are at least putting on 'Today At The Test' on at around 7pm instead of after midnight.   And it was on the 10pm news.
    • "PGC, do you reckon this 'Anderson -Tendulkar' series could make Tests a bit more interesting to the wider word?" Alas no. Until it comes back to terrestial telly, I think it will always suffer from elitism(?).  Excepting The Guardian, cricket is barely mentioned in other press. I am fortunate in that my daughter has just added me to her subscription on NOW TV. It has been great to watch this test; it really could have gone either way, eariler in the day, which always makes it more exciting. The only bugbear is that I am a TMS afficianado, and they are about eight deliveries ahead of the tv! I thought Tongue was excellent in mopping up the tailenders, and Duckett was a delight to watch. Bumrah and Jadeja were brilliant to see. I'm sure the Edgbaston crowd will have tremendous supporters for both sides. PS: I don't think Jofra will be back on the strength of one county wicket.
