I got a parking ticket on LL yesterday. Sadly, the ticket was issued correctly as I had parked illegaly. BUT...?120??? Hello??? I will pay my ?60 but really feel that this amount of money did not "fit the crime".

Has either of you any idea where I can challenge why they charge such ridiculous money? As I said, I am not disputing that I have done wrong...but THAT wrong? Who sets these fees?

I have not had a ticket for a while so I was seriously gutted about my own stupidity.

Inflation - a few years ago it was ?40

I got done turning right when I shouldn't have done - I should of appealed as I did not know and the sign was partly obscured by some road works that were going on at the same place.

I got caught by a CCTV camera so they sent me pictures but also a very helpful leaflet telling all the other bad things that I 'could ' get done for. An example is encroaching on the cycle bit at traffic lights!

Lilly don't even bother on here!

Remember my cigar thread?

You broke the law so you must be fined - that seems to be the common though process on here!

I would LOVE to know what Southwark Council are doing with all this money? I still have dog sh*t on my street,

and holes in the road...

I can see and if people are stupid enough to park where they know they are "going to line the pockets of Southwark council" then keep fining 'em I say

If ?60 or ?120 quid isn't enough to dissuade people then on balance, I am on Southwark Council's side

I presuming by this point you think there should be no parking restrictions anywhere? If yes then at least that's a viewpoint

If no then for god's sake - it doesn't matter if it's lining someone elses pockets ok??? - that's a side issue

Smart thing to do would be to put the money towards providing resident parking areas (off the road ideally). Allowing every household 1 or 2 parking space depending on the size of the family (and charging extortionately for any extra) and then putting metres on all public parking spaces thereby bringing in a revenue stream.

It is time the UK wrenched its collective consciousness into the 21st centaury on this issue. People are going to drive cars (and most of them are going to be bigger than a minis) and they need somewhere to park them.

Parking fines are there for a reason, and they need to be high enough to act as a deterrent. Otherwise people will just take a gamble on it. ?60 is a lot of money, but I reckon if you can afford the ?50 to fill up your car with petrol, you can probably afford the ?60 fine and put it down to experience.

However, what I cannot stand is the commission based trafic warden system, encouraging predatory behaviour, and unjustifiable tickets being written at every opportunity.

and where would that somewhere be Brendan? You can't invent space but you can use it intelligently

I've said it before - but take a road with 20 houses and allow one car each. Perfect

Now split 10 of those houses into 3 flats each - oo-err running out of spaces already aren't we?

Oops a generation passes and all the sprogs have cars - where to put them?

Oh and the other 10 houses have been converted as well

Allowing 1 or 2 parking spaces per home is ridiculous and unsustainable. Accusing people who discourage cars as being anti-21st century is head in the sand stuff

Yes, it's true that you're liable because you've parked illegally, but it would be easier to swallow if the law were enforced consistently.

Why aren't they dealing with John Allen's Dutch delivery lorry with as much zeal? This Tuesday afternoon he was parked ( as usual!) on the zig-zags, thus obscuring the pedestian crossing - that ought to be worth at least two tickets. But there was no one on hand - even though it's a regular weekly occurance!

Great - I can't wait for even more parking restrictions in East Dulwich. Draconianally enforced by incentisvised attendants for the council to raise revenue to spend on whatever crap they have in mind for this year,,,,,NOTHING to do with helping local traders, residents or traffic. Just money for them to waste.

This is all just blatant horseshit. We are not talking about abstractions here - it's real everyday problems

To take one example that happens every single morning when I get the 40 bus up by the library. We wait for the bus just outside Plough DIY - car pulls up and parks outside Lloyds bank - in a bus lane/bus stop - blatant breach of code. While he/she is too lazy to park around the corner, the buses and cars which have just come through the lights now back up, buses have to go wide around the car that shouldn't be there, blocking ONcoming traffic as well. I've seen the cashpoint not working and so they go on a wander of the shops in the area leaving the car there oblivious to the problems they are causing but no doubt indignant if they get a fine

It isn't a repeat offender - it's multiple people every single day just in the 5 minutes I'm waiting for the bus - because they are too freakin lazy. I will either get killed having a go at the wrong person one day or will end up killing someone

It's not councils - it's arrogant people that cause the problems 'k?

There is a simple answer to that Sean. People should be given a personality test. If it finds that they are a cunt they shouldn?t be allowed to drive.

I think you would cut road congestion by 75%.

The same test should be given to those who take public office or work in the provision of any public service.
