James' comment in the fashion advice thread just got me thinking - who would you consider the ideal neighbour/fourm drinks attender??

The reason James' comment triggered this is that I think I'd love it to be Gok Wan - to never have a bad fashion day again - so long as he didn't get me posing naked in my front window as well!!

Ooooh, I'd like Gok Wan to be my flatmate too! Or a fabulous radio presenter called Baylen Leonard because he has a passion for musicals and I could imagine us starting each day with a medley from Sweet Charity, Chicago, and the Producers.

Oh and George Clooney next door if he promised to stop making those Kenco ads.

Anyone but Ceaser ....

Personally I am happy with all my nighbours, I have the "girl next door", "the old grumpy geezer", "the family" across the way and the "mad woman who runs naked down the road"

Appian way is a normal street in anyones books if only there weren't so many chariots driving around at break neck speed!!

Keith Richards would be fun, we could nip round to each other houses and get wrecked. He'd certainly be a good drinking partner and I could get some much needed guitar lessons off of him. On the other side Kelly Brook could pop round my gaff for a cup sugar anytime she wanted.

It would have to be Davina living next door for obvious reasons

If she was camped outside my house (rather then next door) then it would mean (gulp) that I was in Big Brother (shreaks with horror at the prospect)

Failing that ... Eddie Izzard and Cameron Diaz either side of me and Kylie and Danni over the road (imagine the dinner parties)

I'd love to have Bruce Parry (the guy from "Tribe") living next door - his stories over a drink or dinner would be amazing to hear!

Years ago when I lived in Clapham I had "celebrities" living next door (at least they thought they were) - the "pop group" 3SL - you're forgiven if you've never heard of them! They were the 3 Scott-Lee brothers, Lisa from Steps' brothers, one of them is now married to the orange one from Liberty X. Provided us with hours of entertainment listening to them having singing lessons, and watching them strut round the shared courtyard topless in the hope someone was watching (of course we were... but we were a flat of 20 something single girls!). Bizarrely their Dad lived with them too!

What are you trying to say KK? that I am not good enough to hobnob with the stars ? I'll have you know I don't share my hobnobs with just anyone

(note to self strike KK of Fantasy Christmas Card List for not being nice to LP, lick open and now festering wound and go home to mummy for Tea, Sympathy and a Powerranger sticking plaster to make it all better)

SORRY cdonline

But me and mrs Spartacus are practicing for this years Romans and Slaves Show, held on Appian way as always, and I am just honing my "saw the wife in half trick" as you speak

Am having awful problems as the instructions that came with the saw are in latin and I am just trying to confirm if I cut her lengthwise or widthwise - lengthwise seems to take longer but causes Mrs S to cry out in pain a lot more

I'm Spartacus and the women in pieces over there is Mrs Spartacus

Good attempt but too little and too late, sorry to say invites for the Dinner party have gone out and you ain't getting one !! (6) Now to add Kylie's address to the last invite using only letters cut out of Bunty, Woman's realm and legsex monthly.

:( cheers LP wuv u too! U know I do have connections wiv Kylie... if you wanna know more... ;-)

Reading the boys views on having mates for neighbours... hmmm I fink I'd like that too. Would save me a fortune on travel AND I wouldnt have to worry about falling asleep on the floor or in the garden I could just crawl out of one door in to another. hmmmm sorted! :))

    • Post much better this Xmas.  Sue posted about whether they send Xmas cards; how good the post is,  is relevant.  Think I will continue to stay off Instagram!
    • These have reduced over the years, are "perfect" lives Round Robins being replaced by "perfect" lives Instagram posts where we see all year round how people portray their perfect lives ?    The point of this thread is that for the last few years, due to issues at the mail offices, we had delays to post over Christmas. Not really been flagged as an issue this year but I am still betting on the odd card, posted well before Christmas, arriving late January.
    • Two subjects here.  Xmas cards,  We receive and send less of them.  One reason is that the cost of postage - although interestingly not as much as I thought say compared to 10 years ago (a little more than inflation).  Fun fact when inflation was double digits in the 70s cost of postage almost doubled in one year.  Postage is not a good indication of general inflation fluctuating a fair bit.  The huge rise in international postage that for a 20g Christmas card to Europe (no longer a 20g price, now have to do up to 100g), or a cheapskate 10g card to the 'States (again have to go up to the 100g price) , both around a quid in 2015, and now has more than doubled in real terms.  Cards exchanged with the US last year were arriving in the New Year.  Funnily enough they came much quicker this year.  So all my cards abroad were by email this year. The other reason we send less cards is that it was once a good opportunity to keep in touch with news.  I still personalise many cards with a news and for some a letter, and am a bit grumpy when I get a single line back,  Or worse a round robin about their perfect lives and families.  But most of us now communicate I expect primarily by WhatApp, email, FB etc.  No need for lightweight airmail envelope and paper in one.    The other subject is the mail as a whole. Privitisation appears to have done it no favours and the opening up of competition with restrictions on competing for parcel post with the new entrants.  Clearly unless you do special delivery there is a good chance that first class will not be delivered in a day as was expected in the past.   Should we have kept a public owned service subsidised by the tax payer?  You could also question how much lead on innovation was lost following the hiving off of the national telecommunications and mail network.
    • Why have I got a feeling there was also a connection with the beehive in Brixton on that road next to the gym
