Can I remind people. There is golf on tv for 12 hours a day for the next 3 days. So you do have something to do.

if anyone remembers when certain lyrics from a Pogues song were SEVERELY misconstrued, then that tells you everything you need to bloody know about the knee-jerk-I'm-offended-and-reading-waaaaaay-too-much-into-it goings-on in this thread, over a comment that, I suspect, was an absolutely shit, nay, pathetic attempt at levity.

am firmly with otta, d-c, el pibe et al. I was glad when otta asked on page 1 what people were up in arms about because I didn't get it. at all.

oh and I feckin hate the Dulwich tandoori (service+food). not many places on my 'hate' list either.

edit: meant to say, not that I wish a raid on their premises. must have been very traumatic for all of the staff :(

UKBA or whatever they are called now, dont randomly hit premises - they have targets to hit and tryt not to waste time hitting places when they feel like it- its always intelligence based. Quite often, its tip off from competitors. Sometimes its known aliases showing up as being used in gainful employment somewhere- that NI/ID card being used by one employee could be one of many being used with the same detials.Maybe a disgruntled customer or a competitor tipped them off.

fact is, theres a shortage of legit Indian/Asian chefs in the UK and its not getting any easier for them to work here

Doesn't work quite so well I'm afraid...

Oh dear. I think we're going to fall out over this.

Apologies if I'm putting words into your mouth, but this sounds like walking on eggshells in case your "joke" is confused with other people's prejudice.

I'd understand why people might do that, but that's not the way I'm hard-wired...

This is how I feel in London, now.

However in Cities further afield in the past (not that long ago)

some amazingly bad things were said on a daily basis.

So maybe it's a reaction - and will all mellow out.

Lee Westwood might save the honour of the nation. Don't miss it. Cricket lasts all summer.

After the painful events for everyone over the last day or two on this thread, have been recommended by Admin to share with you this 10 minute video, which I think conveys quite clearly ways in which future communications on the EDF could vastly improve.

I found it offensive.

Shall each of us try saying clearly what our needs are?

All my life I watched how easily trust could be smashed and never get rebuilt. The consequences are rarely confined to just a couple of protagonists. Hate speech spreads outwards.

Fellow commenters can see with me how computers bring the evergreen challenge to develop successful new modes of behaviour, to cope with modern technology. Humans had to do that for thousands of years after each innovation so why should this one be any different?

Watching people exploit the option for online anonymity to treat forums like this one as an outlet for aggression, is a sign that new strategies need to evolve PDQ.

Talented and highly motivated folk will go away feeling oppressed by website din and crudeness of comment. This is not OK especially when matters of local harmony concern everyone in teeming, multicultural places.

I feel it is necessary for this aggression to stop or personal confidence and the rest of the group's integrity gets compromised.

I would like to help all find it is safe to comment on the EDF as equals. Not as people's playthings, stereotypes or torture objects, but as part of a wiser creative force called humanity, making a fitter place for all our grandchildren.

Developing new codes is one of the brilliant, everyday possibilities of being on line the way I see it. It's easier than dealing with confined material space. Nobody has to like another person, only foster true awareness of own needs.

to be fair, I think I could forgive bad food on occasion and give 'em another chance but I just can't forgive bad service (as well).

think the wonderful fred siriex noted similarly, that people are more forgiving of rubbish food than they are of shockingly rude/bad service which for some reason sticks in the memory more. (added to that the fact you've got so many of same to choose from within spitting distance of each other..)

    • I would challenge that. Price is a function of supply and demand - that's what I learnt at school anyway. It doesn't matter what your costs are, if supply increases and demand remains constant, prices (rents) will fall. And vice versa
    • Strange isn’t it…..other European countries s actually come up with solutions to house homeless people, which are pod structure, use of office blocks, etc. homeless are provided with thermals, warm sleeping bag and tent or pop up tent plus tech friendly clothing which means they are warm in extreme conditions. Us in UK? Nothing but chuckinto house of multiple occupation, which is usually not warm and not all have mould, but some do.. live in one room even if you are a family with good only knows what other sort of people…  not referring to ethinicity here but more along the lines of mental health problems, drugs, alcoholics. Single and families all in one property. Or if you are one of the lucky ones, into a hotel you go…   Why don’t we as a nation claw back more money in the form of tax  or avoidance avoidance, off shore accounts or other ways that rich or investors do buck the system….
    • Hello! I’m considering buying the demise for the loft-space above my flat (facing the classic renovate or move scenario for an additional bedroom or 2). Has anyone had recent experience of buying the demise from Southwark? Interested to know how they’re handling the premium/valuation.  thanks!
