Grand Opening of THE FLYING PIG, Goose Green,

Recommended Posts

We went on Sunday for lunch. Took 40-50 mins for our burgers to arrive, with one of them arriving about 10 mins after the other two. It wasn't really that busy, and the lady who sad down and ordered about 15 mins after us got her burger first. Being polite Brits we didn't start to eat until the final burger arrived, so two out of 3 burgers were cold. Having read forum reviews we noted chip portions - still a bit on the small side, I had 8. they were nice chips though.

don't think we'll go back - atmosphere wasn't that great, it was cold by the door and the food wasn't amazing.

Visited the other evening. Summary: Chip portion size still too small. Bbq ribs just a little better than a fried chicken shops ribs. Brisket very small. Service polite but a tad slow. Food prices much too high for quality/portions size. Hope the chef covers his beard when in kitchen. I won't be visiting venue on a regular basis.
The Flying Pig describes itself as "Craft Beer Pub & BBQ", so I wouldn't judge it solely on their food. In fact, I wouldn't judge it on their food at all - had a fine Sunday afternoon in there trying a few different beers, all of which were well-kept and tasty. Friendly and laid-back atmosphere. I like it.

xxxxxxx

The burger I had on Sunday was enormous. I could scarcely eat it all, and I was very hungry :)

It was also by far the best burger I have had round here.

Agreed, I see it as a very good craft beer pub with some decent food on the side rather than the other way around. Maybe get the local Clarkshaws in?...

Went in last Thursday and they were having a bit of a nightmare. It was very busy (a good sign) but they were horribly understaffed. Then, when the bar was at it's busiest their tills all crashed and were down for about 15 minutes, meaning they weren't able to serve or give change to those waiting for it.

I ate there for the first time and was a bit disappointed. I had babyback ribs- the sauce tasted burnt. I appreciate it's bbq food, but this wasn't good burnt, and the chips were dreadful. Dry to the point of crumbling in my hand. I would have taken them back but the staff were under too much pressure already. The other half's pulled pork was good though- perhaps the best i've had.

On that note- has anyone seen any pork recently that hasn't been 'pulled'?

    • If you want to self cater and do it yourself, why not try one of the rooms in a church..  one I am thinking about has a huge room with kitchen and toilets… parking on site.. and another one worth considering is the church near Dulwich Library , top of Barry Road..  pm if you want more info and of course.. all the pubs on Lordship Lane. if you want further afield, Rosendale Pub has rooms above bar area that you can also hire…  Alleyns Head also good - section off a section of the pub for  your sole use and parking on site.. although, might not work if try want to dance and play there own music. Kingwood House might also be worth considering…
    • Upstairs at The Castle in Crystal Palace Road is a nice space. It has been refurbished. It has a small bar and a small dance space. Rob the landlord is helpful and friendly, as are the bar staff. I will PM you.
    • Hi. Trying to find a small venue for an 18th birthday, any suggestions? Everything’s really expensive.
    • Thank you both. That's really helpful. Will see if we have the budget left next year when we've finished some other work on the house, but would love to do this.
