MP (although in danger of being lounged), a truly professional couple would shower and do other bathroom 'stuff' while on the tube going to work. Imagine if trendy bathrooms could be built in the train so that one stumbled on in the morning in dressing gown, toothbrush in hand and stepped off the other hand spick and span, likewise, coming home late after work get into pajamas and straight to bed!

Naked on the train?

Wouldn't be the first time! (6)

The extension going via Denmark Hill received approval almost 2 years ago when my girlfriend worked at TfL surface and for the commissioners office. It was then planned for 2010 which as we all know, means your estimated completion date is pretty much spot on.

I wrote to Southern years ago asking why there were fewer trains between 8 and 9 than at other times. They explained in great detail (I've lost the 2 page letter I'm afraid) that it's all down to the fact that there are fewer 'slots' available to our local trains at those times, since the services from out of town congest the points and stations at places like Norward, Clapham and London Bridge.

Further, they said at the time that although there were no plans to increase services between 8 and 9,that they would be investing squillions into the network over the next x years, which would ultimately deliver "enhanced customer choice".

I'm cross I've been made to rememeber that last bit, as even now, it just makes me my blood boil.

i like the idea of 'tubeshower' . i can see it now on a LDN news package.

But, would there be first and second class? first maybe a power shower with door that closes, second a bucket of water and bin liner for protection. Would travel card/oyster card users get preferential treatment? would ken give free showers out of rush hour to london's great unwashed and teenagers?

tube or no tube, who cares, commuting to work is a pig which ever way you go ...

I heard the reason for no tube in ED is because tunelling under Cambersmell would disrupt the well under Denmark Hill (so that's where Camberwell it gets its name!). So really any tube extension would have to come around Cambersmell to get to us, leaving the Victoria line from Bixton maybe?

There is a section of tube running down Walworth Road from the Elephant The plan was to extend to Camberwell - but then it didnt. This odd bit of tunnel is used to park up the Bakerloo line trains.

As for tube line extensions over this way - I doubt it. Huguenot pointed out the geological reasons why tunneling in this area is very difficult and expensive - so no Bakerloo line extension. The 2nd phase of the East London Line is due to start after the Olympics - so that wont happen because our blessed MP has b*ggered up the Olympic budget and that will suck up all the cash.

Trams are more likely as they are relatively cheap and the plans would help re-generate both the Elephant in its new form and Peckham. The recent very glossy consultation exercise would seem to show an unusual level of commitment from LB Southwark. I suspect that they have more or less given up on tube extensions to ED and surrounds and see trams as do-able.

The BIG issue is the Tube MAP. Our over-ground rail services are the same as the Metropolitan line - they are relatively short range shuttle services. I have always thought that a re-branding and inclusion on the tube map would comletely change people's perspective. Getting the tram lines on the tube map would help as well. After all the DLR is on the tube map and is seen as part of the tube network but technically isnt.

Its all a matter of perspective.

    • Don't see an issue at all. Siunds like the protest is being made by friends and families of the two off licences, Morleys, pret and maxim chicken who are within 100 m of the school. Much ado about nothing. Besides if it doesn't proceed, the kids will walk a but further!!
    • Whilst I agree to some extent,  are they going to have some kind of checkpoint?  I can't see how this could work in practice. Surely Southwark residents go to these places quite frequently as well, particularly Tate Modern?  Will we have to take proof of residency every time we go out? What happens when family are with us who don't live in Southwark? Will other London boroughs start doing the same thing? Will Southwark residents be charged a tourist tax to visit "tourist attractions" in other areas, eg the V&A and the British Museum?
    • A shout out for Mark, owner of Pure Plumbers. 07970 971510 They're well established in the Sevenoaks area, but have recently started doing more work in SE London.  Did some v quick and efficient bathroom and boiler fixes for me; have also seen some of the bathrooms he's built, which have a nice attention to detail. • Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?
