What are you suggesting here? Do you want to lump them altogether under one nation or are you just doing some serious stereotypecasting here? I'd be quite offended by this sort of remark if I was an Aussie or a Kiwi. Perhaps this was why the New Zealander you spoke to today was so miffed by your ignorance. But then not only do you write like an ignoramus, you really are an ignoramus.

Go tell it to the trees.

If they sound like they're talking about sex when they're saying six, they're kiwi.

And if they are talking about sheep when they are having sex..........................

The ones I have employed have all been excellent workers, the only disadvantage is, they 'go walkabout' after a year or so, and you can't find a comparable replacement.

I generally ask where there accent is from, to avoid calling a kiwi an ozzie.

I have found them straight forward and good value.

Mr MW74 is an Aussie/convict/Prisoner of Her Majesty...etc etc

He says beer when he asks for one in a pub. Kiwis say 'bear'.....

I shall tell him that someone has started a thread about the 'differences' between the two nations. God help you. He'll find out where you live jrussel and he'll stick a dog up ya.

If you really want to wind an Aussie up (because I still get a laugh out of it now and then)....confuse on purpose an Australian with a South African.

;-)

yes I can imagine it does. A bit like an English person being mistaken for a Welshman, or a Scot for that matter. We're all from the same island so what difference does it make.

What country of origin are you of, jrussel? Purely from a nosey point of view on my part.

NZ National Anthem

God of nations! at Thy feet

In the bonds of love we meet,

Hear our voices, we entreat,

God defend our Free Land.

Guard Pacific's triple star,

From the shafts of strife and war,

Make her praises heard afar,

God defend New Zealand

Men of ev'ry creed and race

Gather here before Thy face,

Asking Thee to bless this place,

God defend our Free Land.

From dissension, envy, hate,

And corruption guard our State,

Make our country good and great,

God defend New Zealand.

Peace, not war, shall be our boast,

But, should foes assail our coast,

Make us then a mighty host,

God defend our Free Land.

Lord of battles in thy might,

Put our enemies to flight,

Let our cause be just and right,

God defend New Zealand.

Let our love for Thee increase,

May Thy blessings never cease,

Give us plenty, give us peace,

God defend our Free Land.

From dishonour and from shame

Guard our country's spotless name

Crown her with immortal fame,

God defend New Zealand.

May our mountains ever be

Freedom's ramparts on the sea,

Make us faithful unto Thee,

God defend our Free Land.

Guide her in the nations' van,

Preaching love and truth to man,

Working out Thy Glorious plan,

God defend New Zealand.

Australian Anthem

ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR

Australians all let us rejoice,

For we are young and free;

We've golden soil and wealth for toil,

Our home is girt by sea;

Our land abounds in nature's gifts,

Of beauty rich and rare;

In history's page let every stage,

Advance Australia Fair!

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Advance Australia Fair!

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,

We'll toil with heart and hands;

To make this Commonwealth of ours,

Renowned through all the lands;

For those who've come across the seas,

We've boundless plains to share;

With courage let us all combine to

Advance Australia Fair!

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Advance Australia Fair!

aaaahhhh Im just sitting back and basking in the differences..

Yes I'll be running a stall actually selling Anzac cookies, didgeridoos, kangaroos, hats with corks hanging from them and of course Tim Tams..

How the hell do you get them to work for a year first, most of oz mates have gone to a walkabout within hours of landing!

New Zealand must be the only country to have a national Van (which they can all get in) and celebrate that fact in their national anthem

Why doesnt the Oz anthem have an equivalent in Aboriginal? Perhaps the Aboriginals see nothing to celebrate in the advancing of the Australians...

Not sure this is entirely true.. Youre right on the anthem part, Ive done some research in to my aboriginal heritage and there certainly is no anthem I have come across. Their language seems to be tribe based rather than across the board i.e. english is the blanket language spoken by people in Australia and the aboriginal languages listed (certainly for the tribe that I came from) have words and symbols for things rather than a 'traditional' alphabet.

Im 1/32nd Aboriginal and the aboriginal part of my family came from the stolen generation and we are all quite happy to see the advancement of Australians.. I guess it needs to be looked at as both black and white australians as just australians.. There is certainly some tension between indiginous Australians and white Australians but nowhere near the media hype makes it out to be..

1/2 = one parent?

1/4 = one grandparent?

1/8 = one great grandparent?

.

.

.

1/32 = one great great great grandparent was aboriginal? I'm amazed there were any white folks in Oz at that point!

Blimey, that's some genealogy.

Oh, and excuse my ignorance but what's the "stolen generation"?

    • Hi there, We are currently having issues with our current nursery in ED, and are looking for an excellent childminder or nanny locally. We live on Melbourne Grove so can walk within a 5-10 min radius. Ideally to start in January 2026 please. We have a 14 month old girl. Any recommendation for other childcare providers would be appreciated too! Thanks a lot, Jojo

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
